I think the picture of the angel looks photoshopped.
They call the hill angel hill now. I actually smoked pot for the first time ever on that hill at a school function when I was in the 10th grade. True story.

I think the picture of the angel looks photoshopped.
If a memorial were created for every student that died there wouldn't be much room left on school grounds.
I wonder what kind of requirements there are for memorials to be placed on school grounds, if any. I mean, they were technically alumni of the school at that point. Will a memorial be placed there for me if I die in a tragic accident?
Perhaps if I die tragically and somehow Websleuths catches wind of it, would one of you be so kind as to push that school district to erect a memorial for me?![]()
If building a memorial helps the community deal with this tragedy, I say build it.:twocents:

mabey they already talked with the parents and it could be what they want? mabey that is whats up .but don't you think that those families are suffering financially from having to bury their children? of course, i don't know what memorials went where, but there were various memorials everywhere - some individual, some group, and there are costs for that. in addition to funeral services. of course, i don't know - but for normal people, i bet that the car insurance policy the one family was carrying was probably not enough to cover the OTHER four funerals. just a guess. and if it was, it isn't in their hands right now. those things take time to sort out. not only that - don't you think that the remaining members probably need financial help? as in, counseling for the sudden and shocking loss? i would be a mess if my child passed away. i think the money could be better given to the families or to charity than to some - statue or memorial garden or eternal flame at the high school. that seems like such a waste and almost like a "show" to me. raise money, sure. but make it count. kind of like how people want you to donate to charity instead of flowers at a lot of funerals now.
Well, not to bag on these girls, but I don't see the point of this.
"some suggestions have included a memorial garden with 5 eternal flames at the new football field"
Come on now. Is this necessary? I went to Fairport High and a kid in my class died of a brain tumor, which is just as tragic. I don't recall any fund being established for this poor kid. These kids were graduated and died doing something non-school related. How about use that money to raise awareness to prevent kids driving beyond the measures of their license or texting/talking on your cellphone while driving?
I think this money is going to be misspent. Just my opinion.
Eternal flames...come on...
Doing anything expensive and permanent immediately after such a tragedy is foolish. Better to wait awhile and let some of the raw emotion get worked through. Put things in perspective for awhile, and THEN see what an approprate, meaningful memorial might be.
There's a reason why grieving people are advised not to jump into making big decisions at a time like this.
Maybe something at the high school will result, maybe not. Time should pass before the decision is made.
Have you ever been near someone in a tragedy? (Not being sarcastic, just curious if you know what I mean) It makes you want to do something, ANYTHING, just to help. Some people prepare a meal or pray with you but others do the craziest things just to do SOMETHING they feel might help you or even themselves get through it. Waiting is hard to do at a time like this. I agree they should give it a little time though.
I'm ok with whatever helps the parents... I can't even begin to go there![]()

As a former teacher....I love this idea. Education is the gift that lasts forever. :blowkiss:I like the scholarship idea. It honors the deceased, and is also practical.
My son's gf passed away in a terrible car accident her senior yr of hs.. At their school they have a fountain in the courtyard next to the flagpole that has been there for a long time.. Anytime a student or teacher passes away they add a plaque with their names, dates, etc to the fountain. The school group that does a prayer circle once a week before school starts, does it around the fountain.. I like it, makes it feel like the one's lost are not forgotten..
Anyway, I think the scholarship ideas is great as well.
