The overdose theory is as good as any other theory, IMO. We just don't know and may never know the truth.
It would be VERY hard to prove a murder if it was a drug overdose, because there is no way to prove if someone gave them to her or she got hold of them by herself, unless somebody confesses... even then, it has to have corroborating evidence to bring charges.
As for what evidence LE has in order to declare it a homicide, they don't have to have anything definitive UNTIL they decide to charge someone. They can SAY they believe it is a homicide, even without a body or any proof. But when they go to bring charges against someone, they better have some solid evidence.
