MOBILE, Alabama -- There are "damages all over Mobile right now," according to an official with the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency.

An apparent tornado has touched down, and calls are coming in from Halls Mill, Spring Hill and downtown, a dispatcher just told the Press-Register and al.com.

Unlike the EF-1 tornado that hit parts of Mobile Thursday, there have been reports of injuries with this one, she said.

Trees are down, power is out in some places, and "some houses are down, too," she said.

OMG, I always heard that when it got cold that tornadoes couldn't form. It just seems to me since the oil spill the weather has been really strange. I'm watching TWC and they showed the Jet Stream and it flows along the midwest and then shoots around the south and heads north, am I making sense here? Anyway it seems to anything to avoid the gulf.

Those were some heavy duty power flashes. For every one of those hundreds of people lost power. Looks about an F-2. Maybe F-3 in certain areas. Oh no TWC is reporting more outbreaks in Mobile County. Geez what is going on tornadoes and blizzards oh my.

OK Florida it's your turn. Tornado warning in the panhandle. This is unbelievable.

Why are they naming snow storms. That can get confusing, in January when then come from the north, west and sometimes south.

They are calling this a PDS? Particularly Dangerous Situation that means that you better get your butt down to the shelter as soon as those sirens go off. Or watch the wind. If the trees start to swirl get in the bathtub or wherever you can that there are no windows and stay low.

This appears to be mostly business areas and less residential areas thank goodness. I live 40 minutes from Mobile and my daughter lives in Mobile County. She was near Springhill at her in-laws earlier during one of these. They had no damages though. We also had warnings all day here in South East MS and the tornado sirens sent us running to the hall on several occasions. There was a tornado that touched down in Greene Co, MS, North of us, but Im not sure of damages yet.

Hoping everyone in the path of these storms is safe..prayers for all of you.

OK Florida it's your turn. Tornado warning in the panhandle. This is unbelievable.

The last string of the storm went thru my area in the Big Bend of N. Fl. and we only got a little rain and light wind, although a tornado was spotted nearby. I read Pensacola didn't get any tornadoes either.

Right now it's 60 degrees, humidity 95% and suppose to be 30 degrees tonite.
Feeling very lucky, and sorry so many of you had to go thru the all bad weather....

Snowstorm heads east after South twisters; 3 dead

By JIM VAN ANGLEN, AP

MOBILE, Ala. — An enormous storm system that dumped snow and sleet on the nation's midsection and unleashed damaging tornadoes around the Deep South began punching its way toward the Northeast on Wednesday, slowing holiday travel.

Post-Christmas travelers braced for flight delays and a raft of weather warnings for drivers, a day after rare winter twisters damaged buildings in Louisiana and Alabama.

Snow and ice covered roads in southern Illinois and southern Indiana early Wednesday. Officials urged residents to stay home if they can. State police reported numerous slide-off accidents in the Evansville, Ind., area and white-out conditions on Interstate 64 in Indiana with wind gusts around 30 mph.

The storm system headed from the Gulf Coast to New England has been blamed for three deaths and several injuries, though no one was killed outright in the tornadoes. In snowy Arkansas, the storm left more than 189,000 customers without electricity Wednesday, utility Entergy Arkansas said.

Severe thunderstorms were forecast for the Carolinas while a line of blizzard and winter storm warnings stretched from Arkansas up the Ohio River to New York and on to Maine...
