Bail set for Whitestown homeowner in cleaning woman's shooting death

Boone County Superior Court Judge Matthew Kincaid set the bail for Andersen at $25,000. Andersen must also surrender his passport, have GPS monitoring and will not be allowed to have firearms throughout the course of the case. His next court date is set for March 30, 2026.

Boone County Judge ordered Curt Andersen to surrender all firearms while the case is pending and prohibited him from possessing any weapons. He was also required to surrender his passport after prosecutors revealed he had spent significant time in Japan during his adult life.

Andersen will be placed on level four supervision with GPS monitoring, though he will not be under home detention. .

Andersen faces 10 to 30 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines if convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

Not even under home detention ☹️

From the article:

Andersen had even designated a "safe room" in his house in case intruders got inside, the complaint said.

He was a decorated pistol sharpshooter and a four-time overseas service ribbon recipient.

This being said, there are periods of increased paranoia, fueled by local SM groups. This summer, a woman living in a nearby city described a situation that, depending on one’s view of it, could range from normal to very suspicious. (She herself rated it as suspicious because she didn’t understand what happened). The community immediately responded, explaining that “it is such-and-such group, and there have been several home invasions in the area, you don’t talk to them, you call the police and also, take their photos, and post them here”. The irony is that the group, if it even exists, looks rather Caucasian and probably doesn’t live here, just represents certain folks’ superstitions, but mentioning increased home invasions would instantly make everyone paranoid, and no one checks if it is true or not. Sometimes people post photos taken through their cameras, saying that “the person called our door for no reason, if you know them, please post the name”.

So my prediction is that Curt Andersen consumes media that fuels his fears. (And I would be more concerned about local posts because they are never verified). He’ll probably lose his RN license, but profession doesn’t matter, as such behaviors exist in any field.

Wow!
It reminds me of urban myths circulating during my childhood
about "black Volga cars kidnapping children" hehehe

And it seems there were people who believed such stories

My goodness this is just so sad.

I am sure a judge can't rule counseling as part of bond, but this man needs help. To be on bond and be this paranoid seems like a problem. Nothing has changed about his mental state except now he's killed someone and he can't have guns. Will he comply with that? Who knows. He has a safe room and was so paranoid he shot through a closed door at someone in broad daylight because he thought they were breaking in. I'm concerned for someone like this being on bond and as high profile as this is now, I'm sure media will be outside his house, and will that fuel his paranoia? I'm sure ordering treatment wouldn't be possible before a trial because it could influence things, but I don't think it's wise to allow him to be free.

One of the groups traditionally accused of “kidnapping kids” back home was mentioned as the culprit in home invasions here! (Which makes zero sense, if one thinks logically, but people bring own superstitions and add them to the local ones).

Rest in Peace Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velazquez. I am glad that the court is holding Anderson accountable for taking her life and for the trauma he caused her husband, children and loved ones. She deserved to see her youngest celebrate her first birthday, not die in her husband’s arms after being fatally shot through an intact, locked and hatched front door.

She was simply trying the keys her boss gave her, she wasn’t being aggressive or trying to barge or thrust against it, but nonetheless in the span of a mere 30 seconds to a minute Curt Anderson sentenced her to death. It may have been a mistake by GPS that led the couple to the front door, but it was his irrational trigger-happy response that caused unspeakable trauma to a family robbed of a mother, wife, sister and daughter.

Also, pretty strange coincidence that he shot towards the front door roughly 59 inches up from the doormat and the victim was roughly 4’9 feet or 59.5 inches tall leading to her getting shot directly in the head. Anderson said in the police interview that he didn’t want to hurt anyone but he saw the the two figures on the porch beforehand through the top and side windows of the front door. He had a rough estimation of where they were standing so why aim so high up? Even a taller person could have suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest or abdomen at that height. If you just wanted to scare them off or not hurt anyone why not shoot towards the ground or at the bottom end of the door? Why not give warning shots through the windows instead?

from the PC affidavit - direct quote

Reporting Detective made contact with a representative from Ryan Homes. This representative confirmed that , Whitestown, IN 46075 is their model home in the Windswept Farms Subdivision (directly to the east of 4283 Maize Lane) and they subcontract out the cleaning phase for this home to A&A Quality Cleaning LLC. This representative stated that A&A Quality Cleaning then has crews she schedules and hires to perform all interior cleaning, window cleaning, as well as pressure washing to this model home. This representative then stated this particular address () had completed construction on October 30th , 2025, and was officially Ryan Homes’s model home for the Windswept Farms Subdivision.

the marker indicates where the Windswept Farms subdivision is and Maize Lane (Anderson home) is directly to the West of that. It is some distance but nothing exists between the two. The new homes are being built on what was once farmland it appears.

from google maps

It would seem that Ryan Homes messed up. They just finished the model home, and it is a very new development. So obviously, nothing yet gets on Google Maps, there are probably no signs, and no one at Ryan Homes thinks that people in the neighborhood should be warned about potential confusions. So between Ryan Homes and the cleaning company, miscommunication happened. It still doesn’t explain shooting through the door, it is on Andersen, but as the result, a cleaner on the receiving end lost her life.

Potentially, Ryan Homes should have contacted Andersen’s HOA, if there is one.

Body of cleaning worker killed in Whitestown shooting returned to family in Guatemala María Florinda Ríos Pérez, 32, a mother of four, was killed on the front porch of a home in Whitestown on Nov. 5.

I couldn’t cut and paste. It is reported Maria came to Indiana 2 yrs ago with her daughters from Guatemala after hiring a smuggler because they were told adults with children were allowed to enter.

As an aside: American citizenship is not a requirement to sue for an injury under the 14th Amendment. And citizenship is often inadmissible anyway, because it is irrelevant to the actions that caused harm. If it is admissible, it comes in under lost wages but this varies.

Though I imagine Ryan Homes will be sued- then settle for the standard "undislosed amount" as they have the relatively deep pockets and filing lawsuits is easy, I would find them clearly negligent for lacking a crystal ball.

In the end nobody can anticipate any and all possible bad events (Have buyers been advised about a potential Plane crash from an amateur pilot trying to land at the nearby county airport?). A requirement that residents be advised not to shoot any confused cleaners, neighbors, kids using short cuts, drivers in a drive way, delivery drivers etc. might not be reasonable.

Putting this criminally and civilly entirely on the shooter.

But also this happened in the morning, by most people's clocks. It wasn't midnight. It wasn't 3 am.

Did he even one consider that there might be an explanation that wasn't dangerous?

They had keys. In what universe could he have imagined they had a key to his house? Lock-picking, sure. But he didn't once consider -- what are the odds that we'd be broken into, while we're home, throughvthe front  door, at 7 o'clock in the morning, at an hour when the world is awake, by two individuals who aren't in way being sneaky, furtive, hide-y, and aren't very good at picking locks? Isn't it more likely that it's something else entirely?

No warning shot, no prior call to 911, no waiting to see if they breach the threshold.

The locked door was their first line of defense, and it held. Never mind that these individuals were never going to overcome that lock, not with the "tools" they had (namely, the wrong keys). The door held. What a relief that should have been for the residents.

Instead he shot threw the door, without calling the police (first), without knowing who was at his door or why.

That is all kinds of reckless.

I have a feeling that people with "safe rooms" tend to employ the following math:

- Unknown individuals (+) Hispanics = Narco terrorists.

Of course, as hundreds of thousands of deceased people in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras can testify, Narco Terrorists are very real. Narco terrorists, however, are very rare in the United States.

I don't see how the defense can come up with any excuse as to why he didn't call 911 until after he had shot someone. That's not the actions of a scared man but one in a rage who wants blood.

One who has been preparing for the opportunity to "defend" his castle against home invaders for years no less. GMAB. Calling the law wasn't something he was interested in IMO. "defending" was the activity he was anxiously awaiting his chance to do and that is what he did. He didn't need no stinking LE. He had his safe room and his gun and his plans of what he would do "if ever"

Very well said.

I have a strong feeling that a big component of the "if ever" included Homo Sapiens of the non white / non Asian variety.

I strongly suspect that had the deceased been white and dressed like a realtor, he would not of made the conclusion of: At last- the ultimate showdown with an Aryan Nations death squad has come!! Likewise, I bet he would have seen an Asian as being inherently law abiding and no threat.

But... add "Hispanic" to the equation and the conclusion jumped to: "Narco Cartel death squad is battering their way through my castle door!".

Interestingly, a neighbor posted on our neighborhood website that a man had walked directly into her house because they had forgotten to lock their doors. It was a case of a mistaken home. He thought he was entering a friend’s house. As you can imagine, all the comments underneath her post were about how fortunate he was that nobody shot him and killed him.

This is still very much on our neighbors minds because our neighborhood is about 10 miles away from where the murder occurred.
