Coach for extracurricular running club. (Doesn't specify which school, but would assume it was elementary school children)

I can see the Oklahoma educational system requires a police background check. I'd like to know if Arkansas does, too.
I wonder if there were some "problems" with his teaching or coaching activities. However, as we all know, the police record will only reflect convictions, not allegations.

5th grade teacher for a year

then changes schools and is 5th grade at the northwoods fine arts academy.

Now this year moved to Arkansas and was at a new school.

That is 4 different schools/grades in 4 years.

Also, coach of running club.

Changes states so a record doesn't follow him?

Couldn't wait for school to start so went hunting for one?

Also, just in general, teachers are among the most trusted professionals. Not murderers!!

They definitely are very trusted. Unfortunately predators are attracted to positions where they have access to children (church, schools, youth sport/clubs, etc.). I'm not saying that we know that that is the case here. But it's such a shame that these predators hide among people who love and nurture our children.

The information so far does not sound like he wanted only to kill the adults. I think he wanted one of the children.

I am so relieved and thankful for LE in Arkansas and for the public tips to get this guy off the streets and away from harming anyone ever again.

Yes, that is something parents need to be aware of. When I had kids, my older sister warned me about coaches who try to get too close to the family - they can groom the whole family into trusting them and will even take years to develop that trust. And then the have access to the kids to abuse.

I know that sounds paranoid, but we kept close to the kids' practices, travel, etc. and my husband volunteered to coach or assist. And we didn't extend the relationships into friendships but merely coach/parent/athlete.

Be careful out there, parents.

I saw someone mention a suspicious person on the Lowell, Arkansas police department's page a few weeks ago. Found this article. I wonder if they ever identified the person or if it could have been JM.

Very scary to think this monster is a teacher. Wondering if he uses his middle name as his first and vice versa? I found teacher licenses in both Texas and Arkansas but not under his name as listed in the presser. He taught in Oklahoma and used his middle name.

Welp, he was more fit than I gave him credit for.

As a runner, he certainly knew NOT to wear those clothes on the trail. He was NOT in the park for a run that day. But, he likely had been running on the trails before and knew where the kids liked to play.

If the goal was one of the girls, then he picked a horrible place to accomplish that. It seems it's a busy trail and most kids will be there with adults, unlike at school when parents typically are not t here with them. Did he want to abduct someone or what is the end goal if he wants one of the girls and he picks a family where BOTH parents are with them?? How did he see this ending any other way than how it did? Did he think he'd kill the parents and take both girls alive?
