Something to be looked into. The driving distance is four hours, and 12 years ago, I assume AM was not able to drive on his own, but boy, is Chicago close to Iowa. The girls would be of his age of interest, they disappeared close to a popular recreational park, and there are tons of reasons to visit the neighborhood in the summer. I always thought of the two universities nearby, one in Cedar Rapids and one in Iowa City; a schoolkid just could visit them or even take summer classes.

Think of this, a 10-year-old girl would feel flattered by the attention of a 15-year-old boy. It didn’t need to look like an abduction.

ETA: just remembering that in several known SK cases, there often is a murder, or a disappearance close by, that has never been resolved and it happens much earlier than the crimes start. The killer would be around 13-14 when it happened and the victim, slightly younger. These cases are always questioned, but either the SK did not develop his trademark style yet, or it is simply hard to prove anything because when it happened, the perps were not among the suspects, but these cases stay in history as “separate”.
Yes, I recall reading about a girl disappearing near Ted Bundy when he was only about 14. It is something to ponder.

I had forgotten how many years ago Evansdale was. The fact that AM wouldn't have even been driving yet does pose a problem.

There are politicians right now beginning investigations into what happened in Lewisville and I believe heads are going to fly.
I hope not.

Rather than going after local principles, I think there should be an office in Austin with the authority to fast track the revocation of teacher certificates for persistent creepers.

Maybe....

- Hey Administrators! Got a creeper problem and the criminal investigation turned up no evidence of true criminal activity? We don't want him in the profession either.

- Call this Austin Hotline with a detailed (key, very key, word) description of his creepy behavior. We will review, it and determine if his certificate should be revoked permanently via an administrative process "Jimmy Johns" fast.

- But.... if we catch you providing demonstratively false info to the hotline, we are going to consider revoking your certificate. The creeper Hotline is not the place to purse personal grudges, or to "get even". Also don't waste our time with: I don't creepers- and I don't like teacher "T". So, T must be a really bad creeper. type "logic".

We don’t know where they were killed. They were found 25 miles north of Evansdale in the winter, that’s all that has been published.

The question is, when did AM receive his learners permit? You have to have someone driving with you, but if you drive well and look older than 15, you may get away with driving alone. He’d risk only with the girls in the car, but not if they were alive and consenting.

It's at least a 4 to 4 1/2 hr drive from our area to Evansdale (and that's right now on a Sat night with minimal traffic). So at least 8 hours roundtrip. And then add on however long. The girls were last spotted between 12:30 and 1.

So, he can't drive on his own yet. Unless we think his parents were totally cool with him taking their car and driving on his own with a learner's permit (risky as heck in our area), he'd have to take one of their cars while they were at work and get back it back home before his parent(s) got home from work and noticed.

Even if he was highly efficient and the girls were dead and in the location they were found at by 1:30, he's not getting home in time. Let's say he leaves there at 1:30 to come home. Once he hits the area where 355 intersects (or a line drawn upward from 355) the major routes that he would be taking home, he's now in rush hour traffic because it's past 4:30 (and depending on how much road construction he hit on any of the major highways he would have taken to Evansdale) and he's in the thick of it....and that doesn't clear up until at least 6. The earliest he would have arrived home if the gods of road construction smiled on him and somehow rush hour conditions were magically light, would be 6...and even that is dubious. Realistically, we're looking at 6:30-7 at the earliest.

Even if he somehow had access to some other car, not his parents....he's risking driving a long way on IL and IO highways and gambling he's not going to have an accident or get noticed for looking like his yearbook picture from that school year (I'm attaching it....downloaded his yearbook from the Fenwick page)

I don't buy it.

Would he get pulled over for looking too young to drive? I know anytime I've been stateside, I've noticed a way bigger police presence on roads/highways (we desperately need that in Canada, omg,) so I'll believe you if you say you think it's likely! Here, he could have been speeding down the highway, drinking beer from the cooler next to him, looking like he's 12 years old and no one would do anything, lol.

One of the routes someone could take from our area to Evansdale, IA is a route I myself drove a fair amount that summer because I had a friend who lived in Algonquin, IL with kids the same age as mine, so we hung out a lot. There was so much road construction (July is peak road construction month in our neck), and all along the way there was increased police presence both parked and driving both there and back every time I drove out there that summer. You're having to drive slower to begin with because of the construction, so the cops had plenty of time to eyeball drivers to check them out.

And yes, I've heard from other moms in our area about their newly licensed kids who had baby faces getting pulled over driving in the Chicagoland area because a cop thought they looked too young for a license. *shrug*

And regardless of their religion, if his parents have the means, and there is known serious mental health history with AJM, or perhaps suspected disease from a psychiatric evaluation while in custody, I suspect his parents would help him fight for an insanity defense to spare his life and to ensure he receives treatment.

Just my speculation.

Thank you! I hope it didn't sound like I was trying to contradict you, I was genuinely curious if that was something the police does, or are able to do. I wish they were that vigilant everywhere!

this does not look at all similar to me - the eyes are a different shape and wide as compared to his close-set eyes and hooded eyebrows; the lips are an entirely different shape, the ears don't stick out like his do, the nose is different too IMO the only thing that looks close to me is the jawline but even the face and cheek area looks somewhat chubby whereas his is more angular - I do not see a resemblance whatsoever

ETA: to add, imagine placing one picture on top of the other one - would the features match up? I say no

IMO:
LE must surely be struck by how closely the nose matches his; and that the eyes, mouth and face shape are also similar.

I wonder how easy it will be to find out if he was in Vermont at that time? I actually did not believe he'd been involved in prior crimes until I saw this composite sketch. How can that nose be just coincidence?

there's millions of people in the world with similar nose shapes ... IMO

i would be shocked. vermont isnt anywhere near the region he has lived in. i dont even see much of a resemblance between the sketch and him

thank goodness I was beginning to think I was looking at the wrong sketch

Fingerless gloves stands out.

It makes sense that they'd want to see if there's a connection.

ok that made me sit up
but I think the only other thing I see as being the same is the red hair

I also can’t help but wonder about James Yoblonski as a possible connection given the creepy, inappropriate actions AJM took as a teacher and the postulated theory that James may have met someone online;
McGann was inappropriate only towards the girls, while ignoring boys. I do no think James Yoblonsky case has anything to do with him.

Actually the process can’t work as you described, here is why.

You seem to be advocating to remove teachers using rumors and suspicions without an investigation? Without an investigation victims are ignored, no criminal charges can be known about to be filed, and the process continues. That is what is happens now.
Without an investigation teachers who are innocent could be terminated without cause.

Mandatory Reporting is not optional- A person is trained to notice signs is held to a higher standard that other adults- they are required by law to report.

Professionals who are pervs are not in fear. They know people are unaware and not reporting.
The Mandatory Reporting process has existed since the 1980’s when I was first trained. Adults are the eyes and ears to protect children.

Sandra Birchmore MA Court TV She met Police Officers at 12 yrs, groomed and for SIX years none of the cops around her saw NO signs? No one reported. It was ignored, escalated, she became pregnant, and was murdered.

In Lewisville ISD AJM was doing exactly the things his training warned him not to do. He was surrounded by professionals trained in noticing the signs of grooming. Those teachers and admin are trained professionals and Mandatory Reporters and none of them called.

CBS News Former private school teacher Fort Worth Texas- Trent Muse 28 male fine arts teacher children ages 6-11. Concerns voiced to admin but no one called as a Mandatory Reporter. After eight months he left. Two years later an investigation revealed over a dozen children- girls and boys- described sadistic systematic abuse for 18 months. Lawsuits are in progress against schools and admins, He is serving 10 years for indecent exposure, with many cases still pending.

From the lawsuit linked: CAUTION GRAPHIC
For eight months of the 2022-23 school year, Trent Muse sexually abused elementary and middle-
school school-aged students inside his small and secluded classroom at Trinity Valley School.
During his “piano lessons” with his young students, Muse masturbated in front of the students,
touched their legs, chest, and genital areas, forced them to touch his penis, put his penis on them,
and exposed his penis repeatedly to countless elementary-aged girls. Muse even created sadistic
“games” for students in which he would reward students with “prizes” after he coerced them into
touching him and vice versa. In at least one instance, a child fought Muse, drawing blood, but that
did not stop him. He continued to subject his young victims to abuse undeterred. School personnel
knew something was awry.

The Nature and Scope of sexual abuse by educators 2023 report

The Mandatory Reporting process should be understood by every single adult in the country. If the pervs knew all of us were aware- they would no longer be able to hide in plain sight.

Children are the most vulnerable, after animals they are the easiest to victimize.

It is sick and we need to do better

McGann was inappropriate only towards the girls, while ignoring boys. I do no think James Yoblonsky case has anything to do with him.

I’m not sure we can assume that he only had inappropriate contact with girls.
Once an investigation by LE has completed then we will know.

  • #638
I’m not sure we can assume that he only had inappropriate contact with girls.

That's not assumption. That's what witnesses, students and their parents stated. There is no single report of McGann being interested in boys, while there are multiple claims he ignored male students. I think we can safely say there is no shred of evidence this man was interested in boys and plethora of it about his nefarious interest in girls. So the probability he had anything to do with James Yoblonsky case is so small that basically non existent. IMO.

  • #639
The police clearly stated Mr Brink was ambushed by McGann. There was no dispute

Did LE indicate that it was an ambush attack? I don’t remember that.

To know they would have to use statements by the little girls, or the crime scene.
Two press conferences have been given by authorities

5News Devil’s Den Murder Press Conference- July 30, 2025 Arrest of AJM 16 min 55 sec
No information was given about the nature of the attack, cause of death, or motive

5News Devil’s Den Murder Press Conference- July 31, 2025 More details about arrest
Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar
DNA at crime scene believed to be the perp was a match to his DNA

Arkansas State Police Major Stacie Rhodes- in charge of investigation
Children indicated something happened to the parents on the trail, description of suspect
Witness description of suspect and his leaving of the park to create composite sketch
Witnesses on the trail videos close to 10 videos of the car

Timestamp 19.32
Q One more question, we had heard reports, can you confirm that the father was stabbed first, the mother took the kids and went back to the car for safety then went back to help her husband and then she died too.
A So the information that we have is that her husband was attacked first. The mother did not return all the way to the car with the kids. We believe the mother took them to safety then returned to help her husband.

Arrest Affidavit
Andrew James McGann committed the offenses of two counts of Capital Murder when he made a plan to attack and to kill another. Andrew then waited with deliberated purpose and killed two hikers at the Devil's Den State Park.

I don’t see anything in the press conference or arrest docs that distinctly say the interaction was an ambush style attack. Only that it he was prepared to attack, present before the victims arrived, and stabbed the father first.

IMO

True, but not connected to this type of crime.
