...Assuming the DNA collected in Wisconsin belongs to Schmutzer’s killer, couldn’t LE quickly rule AM out or in by comparing the Wisconsin DNA to his DNA collected in Arkansas?
RSBM
Yup. They are doing that as we type, I imagine, per MSM reporting here late last week. And if anything is found to match, there'd need to be enforcement, legal and communication strategies to iron out.

It is only Monday after all. 😀

Waiting with bated breath.

Yes, I am thinking the testing in underway. TBH, this might not be a priority project if the testing site is busy, which I assume it is. I do think it will get done, though! (But, will we hear about it if it's not a match?)

I don’t think that punishing schools is conducive to the goal, find out why? And were there prior murders? He did not kill these people on the trail because he was a teacher. He’d do the same if he were unemployed and lived in another place.

The situation is such that the schools would clam up, and we need the opposite. Maybe parents or teachers might remember some random things that he said, places that he mentioned.

Failing to property investigate suspicions of child abuse is negligent, and illegal.

I hope everyone understands that simply looking the other way is exactly how-
- abusers continue to abuse
- victims go unheard

I wish the norm was reporting often, then perverts could no longer hide in plain sight.
If our culture was that everyone was watching out for all of our children- maybe such perverts would at least feel afraid of being caught.

Sorry if this has been posted already. A few tidbits that were new to me:

  • The family had recently moved to Arkansas in order to be closer to Clinton’s mother.
  • [Cristin] was also remembered as an incredibly talented singer.
  • Cristin...got A's in nursing school while raising babies and playing volleyball.
  • "[McGann] was always distant when parents came to pick up their kids. He never talked to the parents."

Thank you for the reminder that those pictures were people

Cristen doesn’t strike me as being tall from the pictures. I’m guessing a setter or libero
Clinton not so tall either- maybe 5’7” and 5’10” tops?? Just thinking if we played together what position would she be?

So sad when anyone loses their life in such a violent traumatic and senseless way
Heartbreaking for those little girls

I agree. We need to focus on what we KNOW to be true - the pedo angle is not only speculation, but a distraction.

We have known a great deal of information that leads us in this direction, and since his arrest.

He has zero links to the victims, he and the victims were new to the area
LE and the family both describe that parents died protecting their children, maybe the parents died protecting their children?

Couple that with all the rest that we know about AJM and the events…
location in daylight, history of inappropriate behavior with little girls, dress in black and large duffle, job as a teacher of children, either not bright or feeling secure that being caught won’t happen, and description by family as protecting the girls…

It is not at all a huge logical or statistical leap to say the motive for these murders may be AJM escalating his pedo tendencies with kids, where he has paid no consequences- and his escalation was to access little girls?

"Brinks died protecting their children" does not have to mean the children were actual targets. When a madman with a knife attacks you, you do not want your children to stay around and become the next in line for slaughter, no matter who is the intended victim.

The problem is we don't know if the rumors of his pedophilic tendencies come because the crime included children combined with his job as a teacher, thereby fuelling the media circus around this case. My problem with this theory is that he obviously went there with the intention of killing (or doing something very bad) given his attire. These trails are not exactly a hotspot for children. If he wanted to abduct a child or something of that sort, he'd have went to a school or a playground. Furthermore, there is no mention he ever went towards the kids themselves. He didn't chase after the mom after she took him, instead he stayed and killed the dad then proceeded to kill the mom. He also (for all we know) didn't threaten the parents to give them the children, he just ambushed them and started attacking the father no questions asked.

This was a somewhat well planned crime. Obviously he's an idiot, as well and made numerous mistakes, but he planned what he was about to do. I find it hard to believe he would be thinking he'd abduct not one but two children in a popular park while his car was somewhat far away? The method of choice being a knife also doesn't really fit well in getting the victims to comply. It's a lot more personal and they can always just run away.

I wouldn't call specific eyewitness acounts rumors. Let's say that he intended to kill both parents. What were his plans with the children (who were just incidentally the same gender and age that he is alleged to have an unhealthy obsession with)?

I can see that side of it, but there also is the argument that there were plenty of people on the trails that day. He could've chosen another victim. But he chose victims with two girls, around the age range he teaches.

We can't know the one correct scenario at this point and I think it's fair game to discuss the child angle - and other ideas too.

I also think we may never know.

I get the impression Arkansas is determined to protect the daughters, and if the State can keep the girls out of the narrative (and I think they can) and still convict, I expect that is exactly what they will do.

"Clinton and Cristen died heroes, protecting their little girls and they deserve justice. They will forever live on in all of our hearts," their relatives said.

Next month the Prairie Grove community is slated to host a community fundraiser to support the Brink family, Prairie Grove Mayor David Faulk told CNN affiliate KTHV.

The money raised from the event will go directly to the Brink children in an effort to give them "a breath of fresh air" and can be "one less thing they have to worry about," he said.

"No matter what, there's going to be a stigma in the back of their mind that they will remember this is the place that they've lost their parents," Faulk said, adding he hopes the Brink girls also remember Prairie Grove was a place where the community came together and supported them

The care Arkansas has shown to the girls, newcomers to their state, moves me every time I read about it.

Today:

McGann will be in court at 8 a.m. for his arraignment.

The suspect in the killing of Clinton and Cristen Brink at Devil's Den on July 26 has pleaded not guilty....

McGann's next court date is set for Nov. 14, and he is being held without bond.

I agree; am so happy they took this stance.
I also agree with what you said earlier that we may never know the full details of AM's intentions or motive.

I had initially thought something might come out about nefarious images of children, etc., on his devices but either there was nothing found, or it's not being released to press and public.

Regarding those trails - yes I would fully expect to see loads of children out there on a sunny Saturday. I feel like the media made these park trails sound like something they’re not. This particular trail is the one that heads up at the visitor’s center. It is the exact trail you’d choose to walk with children if you went out there for a picnic day. Easier, closer parks if grabbing a girl was all he wanted - yes. We have parks and bike trails all over the cities in this area. A murder wouldn’t have been as easy in those other parks.

Exactly! It's a great place (for a creep) to find little kids in isolated yet accessible locations, where, perhaps, their parents are letting their guard down a bit.

Plenty of families with kids frequent trails and parks like this.

I clearly say may, I did not say have to.
I didn’t say the kids were targets of murder, I think he wanted to kidnap one of them.
Is there anything in his history that screams red flags for random murder of an entire family? No

Is there evidence in his history that supports he desired to have an inappropriate relationship with a female child the age of the Brink’s daughters? Yes
