Really
How do we know this is the guy?
Or maybe a better question is
Under what scenario would this photo have been taken?
Because it was released as part of the investigation. They likely have way more information/footage than has been released.

I’m pretty sure it is this bag, but up and down. The stripes are high on the LEFT and low on the RIGHT, and it is sagging over. The clear slot for the ID is on the end of the bag. Which is on the top here.
I sent in a tip via email- interesting what a pain it was to fill it out. There is no email sent to you saying they received the tip. That means some people will send twice.
Between their phone line and less than wonderful website for tips- they are missing a lot of info or getting it slowly. Frustrating

Athleticogear hockey duffle bag

IMO
I don't see the stripes on both ends (one at top of end; the other at bottom of end) but I think this is very close and perhaps the same brand. Great find!

I think someone mentioned that they don't think it's a hockey duffle, and I tended to agree with them at first, but now I'm reassessing my view. Those lines are of a similar style to that brand.

Hockey bags need to hold a massive amount of equipment and the weight really adds up. So most of them are very thick and structured. But if you watch the video at your link, you can see that his hockey duffle is less structured. It's also a mixture of polyester(?) and mesh. Some witnesses mentioned that they guy was carrying a very large sports bag that had a mixture like that, and definitely had mesh on it.

This lightened photo is interesting. The side of the bag with the plastic ID slot is one of the ends of the bag, not the long side. so we are looking at it end on.

There is also a slightly fuzzy lighter area above the stripes that could be the zip pocket. The stripes seen along the lower right side then become the other long side of the bag. The mesh top is very clear and very distinctive. From the perspective of the photo, the bag is "telescoped" and appears shorter than it it. When you put these pieces together, this is quite a large bag.

The Athletico Hockey Bag is a good fit, although the straps seem odd. It is 3 feet long and 18inches square.

To me , just an amature look. It looks like he may have clobbered two bags together. The straps on the top appear to be newer than the rest of the bag

If the suspect adhered to some kind of neo-Nazi ideology, yes.
I mean ... I know we all dislike the guy but this is where we're going based on nothing at all? Reel it in folks. There will plenty of negative things to say when we actually have, you know, facts. IMO

I fear this was targeted over some long past disagreement, or also could be completely random-- but if targeted, who would know they'd decided to go to the park that specific day ?
Grateful the kids' lives were spared as they're old enough to be witnesses.
So sorry this ghastly horror happened to them.
Omo.
Why some long past disagreement? Since they just arrived, does your theory imply the killer followed them from Montana to choose this area to kill?

The witnesses would know if the suspect was a female.
shoulders are kind of rounded for a young male and whatever is around the waist looks, I think because of the way it is wrapped, like a skirt... but I think that is an illusion. IMO
I'm thinking no. The shoes on the POI picture have a distinctive sole. I was thinking Oboz or Merrell or Keen, but no current shoes of those brands have that really thick heel wrap. It almost looks like it's from the late 90s, early 2000s.

But here is a rear view of an Oboz Bridger MId and it's not right, either.

Edited to fix spelling.
they remind me of Jungle Mocs, but no heel loop visible and there are so many similar shoes.

Dispatch says- “small black sports are with taped over plates. The direction of travel- went across the bridge and leaving Devil’s Den and stayed on the highway.”

Catching up, so sorry if this has already been suggested...

Given other reported references to it being a Mazda, I wonder if the perp is driving a Black Mazda Miata.

I'd post a random pic, but there are several different generations with vastly different body styles over the years... I don't want to mislead.

p.s. the gloves could be perp's driving gloves if he fancies himself a racer boy.

IMO.

Regarding the suspects shoes, they look to me like a “tennis shoe” style of hiking shoe that my husband had years ago. I think he bought them at Big 5 Sporting Goods. I looked, but he must not have them anymore.

looks like a duffle with maybe a camelpack or small backpack underneath it. Change of clothing? bigger weapon?
Agreeing with you, acutename, and poster AngTx (excellent post you were replying to),

And I am so hoping, as quickly as possible, (if they have it obviously) that LE will be able to post some video footage of this person walking, or moving about, ....running even.

What is his gait like? Was he leaning on one leg for a reason? (an injury, a limp, etc.)

Someone might recognize him from a video clip just from the way he walks, even if his face is covered: Co-worker, Relative, etc.

As others have written, this suspect HAD TO have stood out with so much material (a jacket? another shirt? ) wrapped around his waist. From this one back shot, he seems weirdly 'thick' with clothing wrapped around his middle.

How did he suddenly disappear after the stabbing?
Did he drop all these extra duffel bags/ knapsacks off....with the weapon and bloody clothes inside, ... somewhere in the park?

Did he run? How fast can a person run with all this extra gear around his waist/over his shoulders, carrying item(s) in his hands (which we can't see in this picture), AND on a very hot day.
(And, LE has said he was ALSO injured.)

This was 'well-planned': The suspect knew he had to commit this heinous act close to where his car was, (somewhat near the entrance of a trail) so he could EXIT the park ASAP.

That fact plus the choice of weapon makes the crime seem so personal and targeted, even though, at this point, everyone is understandably assuming it was random.

------
This is a bizarre crime: Two brazen homicides in a family-oriented park in broad daylight.
Two beautiful children lost their parents in the most terrifying way.
It is unimaginable what the extended family of this lovely couple is going through right now.

Justice, hopefully, will be coming soon.
It is very encouraging that the FBI got involved within hours.

usually if you are avoiding ticks, you wear light clothing, not black
Yep. I've never heard of black clothing for ticks. If anything black helps hide them. I grew up dealing with thousands over the years and I prefer shorts over pants. Makes it easier to spot them and/or feel them as they crawl up. Having said that, I'm sure most people that don't have experience will think pants are better, maybe even black pants.

Still yet, my opinion is he wasn't wearing those clothes for ticks.

There's nothing in the police description about the suspect's eye colour.

Old hockey guy here
Not a hockey duffle
Waaay too small
I'm 6ft3in 215 lbs and a filled up hockey bag was a chore to carry into the rink

In an interview with 40/29 TV , a family member stated that they were told that the couple were attacked with a knife. I think that this was a random attack. A hitman would have likely used a gun and not jumped on them with a knife. This was a psycho on the loose, IMO. I doubt a hitman would have knifed the couple in front of their kids. This guy needs to be caught before he strikes again. Serial killers are allegedly drawn to their next victim by the 'huge adrenaline rush' of killing people. IMO. Maybe this psycho drew the line at killing the kids. ALL IMO

I honestly don't think this was some sort of hit. This was a very ill man who went after a happy family. IMO

Don't think the killer was after a child. IMO husband may have inadvertently stumbled upon the drop and was examining it when the killer arrived. Killer had no option because he couldn't allow someone to take the drop, notifty authorities.
Isn't this park sort of busy for something like that?
