Investigators say that the killer likely sustained injuries during the attack.

This is the info that needs to be blasted out, especially locally. Does anyone you know have new injuries or are staying away unexpectedly (to hide injuries)? Blast the sketch and photo too.

Numerous posters (possibly close to a dozen) have said they thought the person in the photo was a woman, based on numerous factors including posture, build, etc. Even if we're wrong, too many people have said it looks like a woman for there to be no reason for that.

Something about this suspect is giving people a somewhat feminine impression, even if it does turn out to be a man.
Its because when you first glance at him it looks like he's wearing a skirt. I did the same thing like wait a minute. But then you start looking at the color contrasts and your better judgement tells you wait no that isn't a skirt its actually a separate backpack.

What I’m saying is, I personally, would need evidence to think this is a woman or a trans-female.
RSBM
Not to split hairs. But I wonder if you meant to say a trans male. That would be a woman who is transitioning / has transitioned from female to male. If not, forgive me for interrupting.

The only reason I suggested a trans male possibility is because it could explain why the alleged perp is considered male by LE and possible witnesses, and most here, but why others here see aspects of feminine structure from that back image.

p.s. IMO and not in league with the perp.

JMO, that could imply an attack made with a knife. Poor people. They were new in town. Not likely there long enough to make enemies. Was it something random, by someone strung out on drugs, mentally ill, etc.

The couple that was interviewed said there were many people on the trails that day. imo

FWIW, I can see my husband and myself doing this. The Brinks didn't know anyone in the area, the kids were not yet involved with activities. Visiting a state park is a fun activity for all ages, and it's inexpensive. They just moved and this would be a fun outing for everyone to get to know the area before Dad started work on Monday. The terrain is different than where they previously lived so it would be exciting too.

For all we know, they entered the park in the morning when it was cooler and were ending their outing when attacked.

It doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me (and I hate hot weather, but I would do this with family).

The fact that they were right at the start of a new chapter in their lives makes it all the more heartbreaking

I can only speak for myself, but I never thought the suspect was wearing a skirt. I did initially think they might have a jacket or something tied around their waist, but never a skirt.

Random thing I keep thinking about: this perp was concerned enough about people seeing his license plate that he taped it up, but was so unconcerned about people seeing his face that he had sunglasses but chose not to wear them.

I don’t have a point here, I just find that so, so weird.

There's no reason to think it's a woman in disguise or anything like that. Witnesses describe a man. The drawing is of a man. The photo is of a man.
I support your statement in the over all sense:

The murderer should be presumed male (as reported by eyewitnesses) unless probative evidence becomes available to indicate otherwise.

But.... I don't support your statement if it is presented as an "end all" totality. Police the world over can relate that eyewitnesses can be very unreliable under some (or perhaps, many) circumstances.

i mean anything is possible, but statistically speaking, thats not how trafficking occurs

Misconception 2: Kidnapping is the main form of recruiting children into trafficking

Another belief is that children are commonly kidnapped for both sex and labor trafficking. According to the Human Trafficking Institute’s 2023 report, in the United States, kidnapping of children occurs in only an estimated 0.45 percentof trafficking cases; which means that, while it does happen, it is rare. More commonly, according to the International Office on Migration’s (IOM) Counter-Trafficking Data Collaborative (CTDC), findings indicate family members recruit children into trafficking due to generational exploitation, financial need, or the belief that they are contributing to the family. In addition, CTDC data indicates that intimate partners recruit minors, often with promises of love, belonging, and protection. The CTDC indicates that children are also recruited through individuals considered friends, often with promises of provision of basic needs especially for runaway children or those experiencing homelessness. Additionally, in 2020 there was a 22 percent increase in online solicitation and recruitment of children for both sex and labor trafficking, as well as broader child sexual abuse crimes. These recruitment methods can include promises of employment, material needs, finances, and relationships. Children can also be recruited through the promise of educational opportunities.

Yes, trafficking ring and abduction of a child for SA are not the same thing.
It is my gut feeling this guy was attempting to abduct a child, on his own.

These methods of going to a public place with a knife and large duffle bag are new, as far as I know, which makes me think it is his first attempt.
If he is in his 20s, he likely has a history of some kind.
So, I’ve been searching RSO in the area. It is tedious- but it is possible he is there.

I hope he is caught soon, as until he is other children and their parents are in danger.

Frustrated

Yes, I should have said trans-male not trans-female.
I think that is what they meant- some have said a woman dressing as a man.
Others have said a female transitioning to be a man.

Neither were my suggestion, I think I’ll go with those who saw the person and think they are a man who is hiding something and that something isn’t gender.

Not only did the four witnesses see the person, so did the person who took the photo/gopro. Nobody who saw the person in person has indicated any description other than "man" to LE.

I feel confident that we can trust the eye witnesses and LE on this one.

Yeah I think when we find out more about who he is it will make sense. Putting tape over your license plate in all actuality does more to attract attention if anything. Just keep in mind that the fact that he hasn't been caught yet in no way necessitates that he's some kind of genius. There's still plenty of time for him to be the biggest moron alive.

Can someone direct me to the source of this front-facing photo please? TIA!
At first I thought Clinton and Cristen were specifically targeted by someone for personal reasons. But I’ve pivoted to a scenario involving a previous random encounter that meant nothing to them, but everything to him.

Who knows what set him off. But I don’t think it was random in the sense of “being in the wrong place at the right time” and the killer seized on an opportunity to kill. I think there was planning involved.

Time will tell …
I was reminded of the killer in Stephen King's latest, "Never Flinch." Without giving away spoilers, there is a killer who is looking for victims (including on a park hiking trail which I'm sure is why my mind made the connection) but while the killings do have a specific reason behind them, there is no connection between the killer and each victim other than opportunity. This family hiking with kids wouldn't have fit, and I'm in no way suggesting this crime was motivated or inspired by the book, just noting the similarities as we actually have no idea what his motivation was.

Do you think he felt he had to kill the parents because they witnessed an attempted child abduction?

There is a video of the car, that is new.
It is from the local YouTuber, and NewsNation has posted it.

News Nation is an accepted source. Can you post it here for us?

This post lands at random.

Please dial down some of the attitude in this thread. If you wish to disagree with someone's theory, do so respectfully rather than ridiculing them or it.

Here's a real novel concept .. if you can't be nice with a response, we recommend you just scroll and roll.
