Fascinating evidence point. Padlock keys in different pockets

Did Joey make Chase give up his storage key?

Never thought of that but its so obvious when you think about it. Each man had one key. Joey took Chase's back, but put it in his other pocket, and not on his key chain.

I've been waiting so long so someone to bring up the keys! I think it's such salient evidence of Chase being booted, or at least greatly restricted in his abilities.

I had long thought that Joey was mainly keeping Joey on the payroll to recoup the money he was owed but when the 1st forged check hit his bank account he likely cut him loose completely or demoted him down to where he had no access to steal anything anymore. So glad Imes made a point of the keys for the jury.

Great catch. We always get our employees keys when terminating them.
It is costly to replace the locks.
That makes me think that Joey fired him that day.

I really wish they found the storage unit. I don't think he stored the bodies there, too risky to be seen. But probably put stuff there like the purse, wallet, laptop, etc. and items with blood on them.

So let’s think this out. If there was a storage unit and Merritt did give Joey back the key that day, what would have become of it? We can assume no one continued to pay for it. Interestingly, we have no known prior payments in Joey’s records either, do we? I’m not sure there was one, if you think of it from that angle, but if there had been one, I would assume the contents would have been auctioned off when it was no longer paid for. Maybe we should be looking for storage unit auctions around maybe June of 2010?

I agree. And when I heard McGee enthusiastically jump up saying he wanted to go in 5 minutes, I thought OH OH---here comes a strong rebuttal, here we go.

But it was very weak, imo, at least the way he began. He seemed very arrogant and snide, and made a lot of accusations, out and out calling Imes a liar. That one line, where he said ' I look you straight in the eyes, don't turn my back so I can lie to you unlike the prosecution'----very snide and slick.

It was also very slick how he made a big deal about FACTS FACTS FACTS, not hatred and sympathy----then he goes on to making up a whole bunch of speculative scenarios and tried to sell them as FACTS. Like that 'Phone/Events timeline. A bunch of hogwash, made out of whole cloth.

He has no idea what those calls were about. But he tries to say that , it's a fact, every time Chase created a fraudulent check, he called Joey 20 minutes later to tell him about it. He tries to make it a 'pattern' and use it to overlook the stolen cash.

Oh, and that slap talking was not effective, imo. It was annoying. But I hope he continues it because I think the jury will dislike it. lol

He also misrepresented what the DA said. McGee said that the state claims that Chase 'was fired' that day. I never saw it claimed that he was fired. They said they were not even sure if the meeting even took place.

The state's contention was that Chase was close to being fired, and Joey was catching on to the stolen checks. We don't know that he was fired. Maybe he was just confronted, and told that he needed to pay it back by working it off?

But McGee went full on ahead with this false statement that the states entire case falls apart if Chase wasn't 'fired' at lunch time. It made Mcgee look dishonest, imo.
It's really unprofessional. McGee's personal remarks were very unbecoming and I don't think played well to the jury. He probably thinks they have quite a few jurors on their side and is playing to them and he's planting seeds to at least hope for a hung jury. Because, after all, his ploy for a mistrial went down in flames.

There was never any confirmation of a storage though, right? I think they found one payment to a storage facility after Feb 2010, but they were never able to confirm that there was one under Chase or Joey. I always thought if there was one, it was in Chase's/Cathy's name.

On another note... your question about 3/4 yr olds... it brings back memories haha I have 2 boys that are 17 months apart, my older son would break the younger one out of his crib ..... we had a baby monitor downstairs in case they snuck past us, until the older one learned to just shut it off haha... one morning I woke up to craft paint all over my kitchen floor, they tried to clean it up... with dish soap, so you can imagine what happened the second I stepped on the kitchen floor *sigh* One alone would just get up and do their thing, like grabbing a drink or going potty, but the 2 together... they were trouble LOL They are now 18/19 and I feel like I still need baby monitors sometimes :D :D :D

Per testimony of one of the detectives (Smith or Hanke?) they did share one but unable to locate which one as the new owners purged the records. It was determined Chase paid (over dues?) for the unit in April I think. He probably cleared it out then as well.

It's almost hard to believe they didn't find one lol

IIRC there was a payment in April to a storage facility... I believe Merritt made it... but unsure if that was a new storage facility? I think Smith looked, he couldn't find anything. They got the computer from the storage facility, by warrant, they were hoping to find that they purchased the lock from there and had a record of it IIRC.

I know. I was being sarcastic as it's asinine really for anybody to still try and blame DK for this.
I was on a jury in a home invasion w/5 special counts. The defense tried to blame everyone & their dog for breaking into the house, tying the people up (children present), injuring the wife, stealing, etc. The defense lawyer just couldn't imagine why his concocted story wasn't believed & polled the jury just to make sure we were all of the same mind - we all said guilty. I'd like to ask the defense if the would take CM into their homes if found innocent - or at least take him to dinner with a group of their associates? Blaming DK is just grabbing for a life-line on a sinking ship.
