Now Maline has up on courtroom screens the familiar photo of the McStay family looking out from the back of an SUV. He is silent for several moments. "So, of course we are asking for a not-guilty verdict." And he is done. #mcstay #chasemerritt

I think Maline is an alright guy actually. I think we just saw his incredible inner conflict, between doing his job while really believing he's been defending Satan in the flesh. I think his conscience was finally catching up with him. Notice how weak his last few words were in his closing? He looks up at the photo of the family smiling, and suddenly it's as though he really does not want to be there defending Merritt anymore. That's my take on it, anyway.
