Vernal does not seem like a likely direction to me, though. In snow, Parley's Summit is the very last place one would want to drive. It might not even be passable in that weather.
Or am I wrong about how you'd get there?
Maybe they were ALL JP, typing under various pseudonyms.
Thank you to Jacie Estes and Dovebar...from your information I did some research, and I just took a delightful 5 1/2 min. virtual road trip through Parley's Summit into Park City by highway!
In the video the weather was sunny with some clouds, and the roads were clear, so the conditions were not what JP and his boys would have witnessed.
Gorgeous country! I have seen a lot of Utah...most times taking the 15 vertical route. So I haven't seen this part of Utah! :seeya:
I LOVED livng in Utah, we went camping in the Oquirrhs as often as possible. While we were doing searches we also saw some really pretty places. Another place of interest to 'virtual tour' for you would be Redwood Rd. south to the terminus. It goes into a really little town and then Rt 6. This is the west side of Utah Lake; in February of 2010 [don't remember the exact day] we smelled a strong decomp smell as we were on mm10-11 of Redwood Rd. We reported this. I believe it was a man who drowned in the lake.
As I am writing this something comes to mind: On Redwood Rd. South there is a street called Pony Express St./Trail, a new Mormon Seminary/School [don't know if that's the right term] was being built there. In that same vicinity on Redwood Rd. was a utility company, an electric plant. fwiw
Wow, Jacie! I love working on WS because I get to meet such interesting people like you! So, you are Search and Rescue? What a tremendous labor of love that job must be...but so exciting, as well.
I can see why you would miss living in Utah. DH, DD and I have taken the Bryce, Zion camping trips. We've visited Pocatello, ID where in-laws live. And we've driven up to Yellowstone, all taking the 15, like I said. It is incredibly beautiful scenery, and I would love to visit the snowy areas some day, too.
So you were close to discovering a drowned man that was decomposing. I bet that is a memory that will stay with you forever!
Pony Express St./Trail that you mentioned is something to consider. I can't get "Pony Express" out of my mind since I heard JP state it on the initial interview! But I know I don't want to get tunnel vision, either!
Thanks, Queen D! I looked up this mining company and found that on/by its grounds is a "Stauffer Chemical Tailings Pond".
This mining company in Vernal, Utah is 3 hr. 27 min. from the Sarah Circle house. Putting a body in a chemical pond could decimate a body, and could make JP's hands irritated/red.
Just a thought.....
Petersen also says when Powell came to his house he had the worst case of wind burned he'd ever seen. Petersen said they were bright red and he had a bottle of lotion with him and kept applying it on his hands.
Police took Powell's van Monday night, between that night and Wednesday Powell put hundreds of miles on his rental car. Petersen thinks he may have gone back to the campground. "I just kind of speculate he went out there again and I wonder why would someone do that?"
But, if Powell did go back out there that could explain his red hands. That Monday was bitter cold, in the middle of the first wave of a major storm and the wind chills in the area were in the low teens.
Neighbors called all day Dec. 7 after his wife was reported missing, and when they finally talked to Joshua Powell, it took him two hours to get home.
"He just said he was driving around West Valley City," Peterson said. "He wasn't in a big hurry to get home and find his wife. It's just a really crappy situation."
Two days later, when Joshua Powell dropped by the Peterson home, he had "the worst wind burn" Peterson had ever seen on the back of his hands and he kept applying lotion to them as they talked in Peterson's front room.
Peterson said his wife asked Joshua Powell about Susan's whereabouts and Powell replied "Well, it's not like I stabbed her."
WHO sits around telling friends about disposing a body and not to get caught?
Then the wife comes up missing!
I'm new to this case and I'm trying to find a facts or verified details thread. Am I missing it?
When was the last time Susan was seen by someone other than family?
Where did she disappear from?
A lady from church named Jovanna Owings was at the house on the 6th, Sunday, to help Susan with yarn for a project they were working on. josh fed them pancakes and eggs for brunch, Jovanna was hurried out the door around 5p; Susan got very tired and didn't feel well after the plate josh served her. Jovanna was the last person not family to see Susan.
