Jon and Carie Hallford are accused of piling bodies in a room-temperature building and giving out fake ashes

Plea deals reached between the defendants and prosecutors call for Jon Hallford to receive a 20-year prison sentence and Carie Hallford to receive 15 to 20 years in prison.

“The bodies were lying on the ground, stacked on shelves, left on gurneys, stacked on top of each other or just piled in rooms,” prosecutor Rachael Powell said. She said the family members of the deceased whose bodies were discovered “have been intensely and forever outraged”.

Sentencing was set for 18 April 2025.

Jon Hallford was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday. The sentencing is five more years than what the prosecution asked for, and double what his defense lawyer asked for.

During Friday’s sentencing, the prosecution said this was not just wire fraud, “this goes into a whole other realm.”

The defense argued that Jon knows what he did was wrong, that his guilty plea in this case is an admission of guilt, and that he hopes that will allow victims’ families to heal.

Thirteen victim impact statements were read during the trial.

Many victims say they feel guilty for trusting Hallford with their loved one, and that they feel they have to grieve all over again, experiencing loss for a second time
