A church run by the Rev. Acen Phillips appears to be connected with about $60 million worth of life insurance policies on 608 people, according to a document obtained by Denver's 7 and reviewed Thursday by the
Rocky.
Also Thursday, the Colorado attorney general's office confirmed that it is investigating the case of a life insurance policy connected to Phillips and Shely Lowe, a one-time "person of interest" in the case of the missing Aurora girl Aarone Thompson. Lowe died last May.
"Shely is the tip of a very ugly iceberg," said Sam Riddle, who has acted as a spokesman for the Thompson family.
Phillips declined Thursday to elaborate on the questions that have arisen regarding his insurance dealings. But he said, "All this stuff is totally incorrect."
Phillips previously told Denver's 7 that "when you hear the real story, it'll look real good."
Asked to elaborate Thursday, Phillips said, "If I do that (now), I'll blow the whole story."
