Found Safe CO - Adalie Rivera, 13, Colorado Springs, 17 March 2017

I sincerely hope that LE follows up with this case to make sure they are not missing something. I hope that it was just irrational thinking and not that her home life is so horrid to where she felt she needed to jump on a coal train to escape her own family vacation.

When I took a vacation to CO last year I was practically having panic attacks from the air at higher altitude. I wasn't trying to hop a train but I was pretty desperate to get the heck out of there.

Sorry to hear that. I know it is difficult for some people.

Dang, I can't even go in the right direction when I'm using google maps. How the hell? I also saw in a previous article she was without her phone because her parents took it away before the trip.

That's funny... I see you are from the Springs, too... The mountains are west. That's my compass here...

IMOO.

I just moved to south of Denver a couple months ago. I'm just now getting used to the altitude. Haven't made it down to Springs yet.

Thank goodness Adalie is safe!

I know, crazy huh! Colorado Springs has so much beauty to offer, from Pikes Peak, to Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Canon, Palmer Park, Ute Valley Park, etc. I love it here!!!

IMOO.

I spent a year in Boulder from 2005 - 2006 - the land is indeed beautiful and highly conducive to outdoor activities. Boulder is very bicycle friendly, has all kinds of special bicycling lanes you won't see in cities like Sarasota.

Now about those coal trains.

Yes, they are a lot of fun to watch - I have seen plenty of coal trains in CO, 50 cars plus, yes they look tempting to hitch a ride on too, although I never did.

I'd love to know how Adalie knew the particular train she was on was headed for Lubbock.

I am just glad she is safe.

I'm really interested to hear about her adventure, although I suspect we won't hear anything more now that she's safe and apparently no arrests have been made.

It took her 3 days to take a 6 hour train trip. (I calculated this with train speed for coal trains on the internet listed as 50 mph, and it's 316 miles between Colorado Springs and Dumas). Did she end up on a train that was stationary for 2 days? Did she take a wild loop that took her way out of her way? How was she eating/drinking during those 3 days she was missing? Inquiring minds, and all. Honestly, I'm interested, and would love to hear her story.

I brought this case up with friends today, and was asked if her family was from Honduras or El Salvador. Apparently that's how they get to the US - hopping coal/other trains.

She could have watched the rail going from Lubbock to Colorado Springs if they were driving that route perhaps…?

kids don't have the same filters, the same experience, the same sense of knowing what could happen... generally speaking anyway. Isn't that one reason a child puts everything into their mouths? We know that a clear packet of laundry soap, or a dirty quarter, won't taste good so we don't put it in our mouths. We worry what will happen if we push that red button, but kids? They are pushing that damn button.

We know riding a coal train can be risky (for starters) so most folks probably would not consider jumping on one. A youngster isn't quite as concerned with what might happen.

I don't know, I'm rambling, glad she is safe. So so glad and relieved. Phew!
Might need to add to my bucket list...just because : /

I KNOW!!! People who hop a train are living a more colorful life than I am living. People who camp in tents on the beach, while I am in a beach condo sitting on my balcony looking at them, are living life more than I am. Bucket list . . . just because. I completely get that.

Don't forget to add attend a crimecon!
