COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Jesus Dominguez took a plea deal in Pueblo County Court Thursday, pleading guilty to second degree murder after investigators say they found the remains of two young children last year.

Today in court, the judge said Dominguez’s plea deal includes him cooperating with the district attorney’s office to testify in Minjarez’s trial, which is set to start Aug. 11.

Dominguez faces a possible sentence of 16 to 48 years in prison.

His sentencing is set for September 12.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Jury selection has started for Corena Minjarez who is accused of killing two children and hiding their remains in Pueblo early last year.

So far, the selection, which began this past Monday, has lasted for three days.

Initially, there were 125 potential jurors who had to report to the Pueblo Courthouse and dozens are still left in the courtroom, waiting to see if they will be one of the 14 jurors chosen for this case.

During jury selection, the defense attorney asked potential jurors if they would be able to handle seeing pictures of dead children and if it would influence their decision of guilty or not guilty.

Jury selection is expected to wrap up on Thursday.

Once jury selection wraps up opening statements will begin.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - After days of jury selection, opening statements were finally heard in a murder case involving two children in Pueblo.

Thursday afternoon, a jury heard opening statements from both the prosecution and defense in the case. Attorneys with the state say there is a receipt for concrete purchased with Minjarez’s credit card, and the storage unit where Yesenia’s body was found was registered to Minjarez.

The defense claims Dominguez Sr. was responsible for the deaths of the children, and Minjarez protected him because she loved him.

The jury will be back in court on Friday morning.

*Jesus Dominguez (29 @ time of crime/35/now 36) – Took plea deal & plead guilty to 2nd degree murder & other charges were dismissed & he will testify against Minjarez. Sentencing hearing on 9/12/25.

Tuesday, August 19th:
*Trial continues (Day 4) (@ 8am MT) - CO - Jesus Dominguez, Jr. (5/now ~11) & Yesenia Dominguez (3/now ~9) missing. Jesus was found (2/6/24) in a suitcase in Minjarez scrapped car. Yesenia was found (1/20/24) encased in concrete container at King’s Storage Ce nter. They were both last seen in the summer of 2018 (6/1/18). - *Corena Rose Minjarez (30 @ time of crime/36/now 37) arrested & charged (2/15/24) & arraigned (11/22/24) with 2 counts of 1st degree murder & 2 counts of abuse of corpse. Bond $2M. Plead not guilty [11/22/24]. Pueblo County
Trial began on 8/11/25 (thru 8/29/25). Jury: 12 jurors & 2 alternates.
Judge Allison Ernst presiding. Deputy DA Kyle McCarthy. Minjarez' defense attorney Alby Singleton, head of the Colorado State Public Defender's Office in Pueblo & Public Defenders Alby Singleton & Tilyn Bell.
