Investigators cited the Sawtooth Mountain and Refrigerator Canyon areas as the places with the highest probability of finding the wildlife biologist.

“We’ll search those and, after that, it’s probably going to be somebody that happens to come upon him if he’s deceased,” Dutton said.

Dutton predicts weather conditions will inhibit further searching this month, but after Saturday’s efforts, only about three-quarters of Sawtooth Mountain area had been fully searched.

Human remains found in Gates of the Mountains believed to be missing Colorado man

Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson said he is “almost 100 percent” sure the remains found by a hiker last Sunday are those of Dale Brownlow, a 52-year-old man from Denver who went missing on Nov. 30, 2013.

The remains will be sent to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula where they will be tested, but Nelson said the location of the remains and a photo ID found at the site led him to believe the remains are Brownlow's. He would not speculate on the cause of death.
