"Pelle, who said Thursday he feared more deaths could be discovered, again expressed concerns about unknown deaths or damage.

"The thing that worries us the most are the things that we don't know right now. We don't know about lives lost, homes lost, (or) people stranded in many, many of the canyon areas in our upper communities. The effort to assess that, document it and get people in there is going to be ongoing for several days," Pelle said.

A total of 80 people are now considered "unaccounted for" by the Sheriff's Office. That's up from a previous count of 20.

The classification means that friends or family members have called the Sheriff's Office to report they lost contact with the individuals in question."

"I stress the danger's not over," Beckner said. "We are not out of the woods yet. We are still in a critical condition."

The chief called the flood water rushing down from the mountains unprecedented during his career.

"In my 35 years, we're never had anything this significant," Beckner said.

The chief asked residents to avoid driving in Boulder and to stay away from creeks and other areas where water may rise. Beckner also urged people to not visit Boulder until the severe weather ends.

"We're asking people to not come to Boulder unless necessary. And the reason for that is because if you get here, you might not be able to get out. Most roads are closed," the chief warned.

Boulder Police Spokeswoman Kim Kobel warned people to stay out of the waters, saying they are full of sewage and dangerous debris.

President Barack Obama signed an emergency order Thursday night, approving federal disaster aid for Boulder County."

Have hope...authorities were saying a lot of the missing could be just cut off from communications or stranded awaiting rescue.

Rescuers issue stern warning to Colorado evacuees

http://www.centurylink.net/news/rea...p-rescues_accelerate_as_floodwater_inundat-ap

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — As rescuers broke through to flood-ravaged Colorado towns, they issued a stern warning Saturday to anyone thinking of staying behind: Leave now or be prepared to endure weeks without electricity, running water and basic supplies.

National Guard helicopters and truck convoys carried the admonition into paralyzed canyon communities where thousands of stranded residents were eager to escape the Rocky Mountain foothills. But not everybody was willing to go. Dozens of people in the isolated community of Jamestown wanted to stay to watch over their homes..........

Some of those who are unaccounted for may be stranded or injured. Others might have gotten out but not yet contacted friends and relatives, officials said........

"I expect that we're going to continue to receive reports of confirmed missing and confirmed fatalities throughout the next several days," he said.

The military put more troops on the ground and helicopters in the air to aid in the search-and-rescue effort. More rain was in the forecast.

By midday Saturday, nearly 800 people had been evacuated, National Guard Master Sgt. Cheresa Theiral said. .........

Above the plains of Larimer County, rescue crews planned to fly as many missions as possible while skies were clear. Crews used inflatable boats to pick up families and pets from farmhouses. Some evacuees on horseback had to be escorted to safe ground..........

For those awaiting an airlift, Guardsmen dropped food, water and other essentials into the winding, narrow canyons. With supplies dwindling, residents of Lyons barbecued their food before it spoiled.

Much more in 4p. article and lots of pictures...

We got some sun today.....and now its raining AGAIN and there is rain forecasted for days ahead....

I am at a much much higher elevation than Denver and Boulder, so my town is not experiencing the floods that the Boulder/Longmont, etc areas are.....however, our creeks and rivers are overflowing and low lying areas are incredibly saturated.

It is so sad watching this all happening only an hour or so from me. :(
