Well I would like to know if something happened that may have caused phone contact between the boy and his father, ie a need for sympathy or that the boy was feeling picked on imagined or not.
It's outstanding to me that "we" don't know who the boy told that he was going to visit a friend, and therefore who didn't ask "what friend".

For days I assumed it was SM but if she was in the basement, where did that story come from?

I think media savvy 11 year olds could easily think they could hitch hike to go to a loved one especially if they feel they can't stay at home for one more minute, and maybe they feel even physically closer if they had been in recent phone contact.

if I could learn a few of those things then my mind wouldn't keep circling that option, that he was temporarily miserable and wanted to be with the Dad who was physically his closest bio parent.

when did the dad leave, and was it unusual that sm cared for all 3 without him being around?

I feel a personal and deep empathy for people who can't communicate fluently in the principal language of the country they are in, whether or not they are natural born citizens. So I am not ready to diagram the sentences of this woman. Maybe if she had faced the camera the body language would have been more clear.

JMO. My opinion is the Dialect is Eastern NC.

Do we know what kind of phone he had? Was it an iphone?
I have 11 year old twins, and they think that they are pretty savy on their phones. I know where they are at all times, no need to track them on their phones, but on iphones that is pretty easy. I have huge doubts that he would have phrased the sentence on google search the way it was prased. It sounds very staged to me. My kids would definitely not say it this way. More like: how can iphone track where I am.....
I did hear it was an iphone. I agree his language would have been more tech savvy. Will you ask your ids what they reckon they would do in a similar situation? What skills do 11 yr olds have? Do they have survival skills, for example? Would they be able to survive outside alone if they found a way to keep sheltered from the elements?

All of those places sound like possible dump sites to me,I think I have been on WS too long:(
I get it. That was my first thought when I saw they moved it due to information and not just because they had exhausted their search in Fountain.

I hear the "south", I also hear the spanish language constructs where word sets are placed in reverse when spoken in english. I don't have the time to go back and show you what I am referring to, but it's similar to saying "house white" which started out correctly as "casa blanca". I know we are not supposed to sleuth beyond what she has actually said in msm interviews, so I'll leave it there.

I totally hear southern. I lived in my husband’s hometown in rural Georgia for a couple years. The way she speaks reminds me a lot of how my husband’s Aunt L speaks. The one thing I can’t really reconcile is the past tense. I saw elsewhere that that is just a southern grammatical thing. But I can’t for the life of me remember if Aunt L does that or not. Maybe I should call her for a chat...

Disturbing thought... maybe SM did that search on his phone, but she did it for herself, to see if he could be found if his phone was with him.

If you do that search on Google, it doesn't provide an easy yes/no answer, and you have to filter through a lot of articles that are only semi-related. Perhaps in the heat of the moment she decided not to, uh, keep his phone with him, because she still wasn't sure if the phone could be used to find/track him.

Clearly she had access to his phone, if she's the one who showed LE the recent search. So it wasn't secured with a password or other means, or if it was, she could bypass those.

I hope that's not the case, but it is another possibility.

JMO.

I speak spanish nearly illiterately given the long time I've been exposed to it, emerged in the culture, and the numerous classes I've taken, humiliating actually. Considering that writing it coherently is so much easier. So I can 100% understand her involuntarily switching tenses, especially when speaking defensively under pressure. (Should add that I don't know that she speaks spanish at all, just an educated guess)

I'm curious about how connected Gannon may or may not have been with his phone. Did he frequently call/text? Was he always using it, for games, or almost never? I'd be alarmed if I thought he'd run away, and didn't have his phone. For sure I'd check his last calls/text. Not sure checking his search history would be anywhere near the top of my thoughts.

I'd be desperate to search for the absence of items I'd hope desperately he'd have taken with him. Money, a blanket, snacks.

And innocent, I'd fear the worst, that he'd been taken. I'd fear it, and I'd hope for it, because then at least there's a chance he's still alive. And findable.

My heart wants him to be safe, but sady, I don't think this will remain a mystery long. My heart breaks for his mom and his dad. Unfathomable anguish.

Did sm say both things? That she was in the basement , so didn't see him go, AND that he said he was going to visit friends?
Or did the boy communicate that to someone else?

Did the door cams pick up others entering or leaving the home on monday? Has that been released? Ie delivery people or the like?
Or carpet contractors? Anything is possible, right? Just a thought.

After deep thought, I believe her. I believe Gannon is alive. I believe Gannon will come home. I believe we are not thinking outside the box. I believe she will receive the apologies she hopes for. I believe. imo
We REALLY need a sarcasm font :) You had me scratching my head there for a moment

Did she call the school in the a.m. to report him he would be abent?
I don't believe that information has been disclosed in MSM, so I honestly don't know.

Thank you so much for your your insight. Like I said before and I’ll say it again. She’s a true southern red rebel.
Eta: @Pianoturtle I’m sorry, I meant to include you. Thanks so much.

Do you think a child of that age knows what hitchhiking is? It’s so uncommon these days I find..my 8 year old would have no clue what it was but that doesn’t mean an 11 year old wouldn’t also. Curious. I need to interview some 11 year olds.

My youngest is 15, and I was wondering the same thing as you. I suppose they might see hitchhiking in movies or tv programs. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty certain my kids had probably seen it that way by the time they were 11.

I have read that GS didn’t take money or his phone or his coat but what about a bike or skateboard if he planned to head to a main road and hitchhike?

I’m not sure what little boys do nowadays. My twelve year old tomboy granddaughter and her friends do. They build secret hideouts in the crevices of bushes and trees. She’ll bring a thermos, an old cane pole, a butterfly net and string to tie branches together to create camouflage from the boy’s secret hideouts so they can spy on them. Her mom and big sister went down there at the first mention to check it out. So they would know exactly where she was. I don’t know exactly what these girls do when they’re down there. She comes home muddy, tracking her shoes all over the floor carrying baby food jars of bugs.

I can definitely see Gannon and his friends doing it though. Surely, another child would have confided in their parents by now. I keep hope until there is no other choice. I’m leaning toward the idea he fell by accident and neglect. Somewhere on the hike. Panic. Cover up. I keep thinking of SM’s daughters. How frightened they must feel. Fear of the unknown is real. She is their mother. They surely love her.
Off topic, but @imstilla.grandma your Granddaughter sounds AWESOME!
