At the Q&A, the LE spokesperson referenced the folly of investigative info being leaked because of future legal proceedings. We don’t know how successful a defense atty would be in getting that video out of the way.
I cannot think of many high profile cases where at least some information is not leaked prior to trial, by eye witnesses, people close to the case, anonymous sources, etc. Being in the public domain does not in itself have any bearing on its ability to be successfully entered into evidence in court. It is immaterial IMO. As long as video can be independently verified (it can by the security company as to date/time/editing and verifiable as to what it captures (SM and Gannon) with common sense police work), there is no reason it would be kept out of a trial...and certainly not because the media released it.

Those two video segments may not be the leaving and returning from the same trip. She may have come back with him (if it is him) and left again and returned on her own.

My guess from watching the video is that SM likely confiscated his phone in the car and took it back inside with her own. She worked in education - she must have at least a vague idea about phone tracking and its uses by LE. Speaking of which, what time was the search made on Gannon's phone or computer about parents being able to track phones?

I am dumbfounded that LE and especially the FBI did not ask everyone on the block to allow them to personally review their security footage. Why leave it up to neighbors to do on their own? Why was this not the first thing done when SM had her "I demand an attorney" interview with LE? I am less concerned about media leaking the footage than LE not having eyes on this video to begin with from Day 2. I am disappointed. People have been thinking and searching like he ran away in the critical first week. How did this ball get dropped? I am usually a huge fan of the FBI, CBI in these cases - but I can't help but think this is a basic thing to have been done very early on.

Yes, the LE request "oh, this is important, all neighbors check their cams for the past week" is IMO bizarre, sloppy.

WHY was him missing not immediately jumped on? Surely LE is as aware of time being critical as internet sleuths are. I support LE but sometimes some departments seem lacking.

FOX31 and Channel 2 were the first to obtain a copy of the video, which came from a surveillance camera at a home in the neighborhood where Stauch was last seen. After discussing the video with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, FOX31 and Channel 2 have decided to share it.

On Monday, investigators were seen removing evidence from the house.

Drayton says the video shows Stauch and his stepmother leaving the home in a pickup truck about 10:13 a.m. on Jan. 27.

"I saw him come out of the house, get into the truck. Something's not right," Drayton said, adding that Stauch looked sluggish and as though he may have been "drugged."

Video shows the truck returning at 2:19 p.m. However, Stauch is not seen.

"[He] never got out of the truck," Drayton said.

That is what I feel happened to Gannon....JMHO :(:(:(

Unless she passed him off to someone we know he’s within a two hour range of his house.
Someplace VERY familiar to SM with close to zero traffic
Wow how many times did I read that in the Kyron Hormon forum? Early on I thought TH may have handed Kyron off to someone to get back at Kaine.
Oh how I wish this would be the case with Gannon.

My musings on that video:
  • Why back into driveway? Loading something in bed of truck?
  • She sits in the truck for a bit after backing in. Talking on cell or texting someone?
  • Is she wearing a white beanie?
  • Sure does resemble a rifle bag, or could be a sports bag similar to one you carry bats in.
  • Gannon leaves his door open until just before the truck leaves?
  • I'd like to hear from neighbors if that truck is usually backed up to the garage, and if that is TS's vehicle.
  • Was that white papers in her hand or a towel?

I could swear earlier today I saw a different video, same truck. But the child got in the back seat on the passenger, not the driver's side?

I doubt she would have disposed of him any where nearby. Too risky. And wherever her phone pinged, that might've just been a stop along the way to where she was actually headed (she probably left the phone somewhere and then continued on).

What wilderness or remote places has she been to around there before? Did she camp, hike, hunt, or fish? Places that are within say 1 1/2 hr drive of the house? Mountains would be best, and might avoid the need to dig a grave. Wouldn't be far from the road. But she would've had to find a place with no witnesses, so not any scenic or popular routes. Heavily wooded areas a possibility, but not as likely IMO..

Might be video cams on some of the routes up into the mountains or out into remote areas though. And I assume they've checked GPS /on star on the truck (maybe they're awaiting results), and gas station cc receipts.

Perhaps they can also test the soil on the truck tires, her shoes, and on any implements in the bag. They could also test those same items for Gannon's DNA. Also, check the house for antifreeze (incl trace amounts on glasses). But they've probably done all that, and again, it's just more circumstantial evidence without finding Gannon. Wish we could bring him home

Or maybe she left her phone home. We know when Gannon supposedly ran away, he left his phone behind, I know, I know...so why wouldn't she? I'm thinking that's a big part of the problem with this case. Tracking her movements has become a problem.

Maybe her suv has gps and the truck doesn't?
I could be wrong, but i don't think that that trim level comes with navigation (on the truck). I thought it was the "SV" trim?

I do also like the possibility of "needing" the offroad truck, too.

This doesn't prove anything, but why would she drag a sick child out with her to run errands? I know he is only 11, but that seems old enough to leave home alone for an hour or two.
I would have to know her past behavior to know if this is unusual. Kinduv like the debate over whether an 11 year old would sit in the back seat. Some people find it odd, but it really isn't all that much.

On the video he doesn't appear to be walking all that slow. Not fast, but not slow really. Maybe he had a leg / foot injury that required help getting in the truck. Maybe he just wanted to stay home.

The really odd part I found was the delay in driving away from the house. Like that would be a short circuit situation for the SM in responding to a whiny child.

My theory: the SM was involved in something where GS was expected to sleep / stay in the truck. It could have been a drug thing or a sex rendezvous or something similar. whatever it was GS had wandered off when SM returned to the truck. SM then returned home, then decided to tell the story that Gannon had run away from home vs wherever she was.

I'm pretty sure it will prove to be the "correct" video. I'm sure people have watched the 4hrs of nothing in between the going and coming.

Why would the video being easily tossed? If she did not tell LE she took Gannon somewhere that day (or even that she went somewhere that day) - it is very important circumstantial evidence. It is the last time he is seen by anyone that can be verified (assuming the date/time stamps correct). There is zero reason she could have "forgotten" about this trip that ended within a hour of when he went "missing" by her calculation. Moreover, in conjunction with no video of him walking away on anyone's security cameras (assuming they can be shown to pick that up), it is very impressive evidence. How is it meaningless?
The date and time are probably correct considering this was a commercial product from Xfinity that is linked to NTP servers for exact time. Cable modems, cable boxes, etc are all time synced for very good reasons.

I'm not ready to convict anyone yet, plus, checkin' in to thread 4.

I can’t think of an innocent explanation for:

1. Claiming your kid stayed home from school because he was sick but you let him go play at a friend’s later that day.
2. Claiming your son went off to play with friends and you let him, despite him not telling you which friend.
3. Claiming you last saw your kid between 3:00 to 4:00 pm when he left the house on foot, while surveillance footage shows he last is seen leaving the house, with you, at 10 the day he went missing, and you return without him before 3-4.

Where did he go and why did she lie?

When a child goes missing, many departments look around the house and then begin to look for cameras on homes/garages and on doors. They canvas and knock on doors. It seems odd that they would not have done this given she stated that he left the house to go to a friends. If I were the LEO, I would want to see if he left the house and got picked up, left the house and carried nothing or a suitcase or a backpack, or if he never left the house. It would give good insight. The recent case of Harley Dilly had him leaving his home early in the morning. They were able to say what he was wearing and what he did or didn't have. It is a little mindboggling that they are in this for a week with no surveillance gathering attempts made--unless LEO did have the tapes but were keeping it on the DL.

I know. What good is that now? The important video has been found (no thanks to them).

I hate to say it, but i hope this isn't an indication of "things".....

Is everyone in colorado on the pot? J/k. I do supporg LE and know they are doing their best. It's not an easy job. They just frustrate and anger me at times.

If I may add:

I can’t think of a plausible innocent explanation for (4.) that disaster of a narcissistic interview she gave to a reporter. Sure, it is possible (and has happened) that someone who comes across as a horrible, unempathetic person in a media interview turned out to later be innocent, but it does not give me comfort to watch it. She cared about no one but herself. It also concerns me that she spoke of Gannon when asked to describe him in almost exclusively the past tense. Nothing dispositive, of course, but highly concerning behavior. She also admits that people are finding her story inconsistent and hence she refuses to tell the reporter about Gannon’s last day home. Yeah - that had alarm bells going off for me. Way to help find him, lady!

I’ve been thinking along similar lines. I’m absolutely directionally challenged. East west north south. It’s all the same to me. But I keep going back to this video. I don’t know how far away it is.

Is this what you are referring to in the video?

I think #1 and #2 could be somewhat innocently explained by SM being a lazy parental figure with questionable judgment who didn't want to bother doing anything that wasn't the easiest thing with this kid. The Cousin It interview revealed a few things about her parenting in that household to me: she thought of Gannon as a burden at least some of the time ("I've been taking care of him for so long"), and she is the kind of mother who not only failed to prioritize keeping her own minor child far away from a police investigation, she tried to use her to establish her own innocence. So maybe if Gannon wasn't really all that sick, she wasn't going to bother to rally him for school or set a boundary later by saying he couldn't go to a friend's house (hypothetically, if he was even still there at that point).

However, I strongly agree with you about #3.

The only thing I can add regarding your questions is that when she got in the truck and left, she was wearing a white beanie. When she returned and got out of the truck, she was not wearing the white beanie but had something white in her hand. I'm thinking it was the beanie and believe me I watched that video many times!

Yes. It looks like there’s a white cap on top of the shorter person’s head. My eyes are bad and my fingers don’t work well enough to enlarge it on my iPad for very long.

eta: can someone else please look at the still to see if person looks like a woman
and
see if it looks like a white beanie on top of the head?

An earlier version of this one. I posted original link much earlier, in a reply, in thread before this one
Surveillance video shows stepmom with Colorado boy before he went missing

Thanks. So I don't see/read anything different than what I said. The video shows SM leaving with Gannon and coming back without him, suggesting that he didn't return home with her and, therefore, possibly didn't go to a friend's house in the afternoon as the SM claims. What am I missing? I also see in other reports that the neighbor says the boy appears sluggish or drugged when getting in the car. But that's hella subjective, plus he's a tween and reportedly not feeling that great. So...
