In my expert opinion (many years of being on websleuths), they bring in the DA when they are ready to file charges or they have found a body.

Is it possible that in these high profile cases that LE is starting to operate "outside of the box" because of social media and cameras on them non stop. As long as evidence is preserved properly they are under no obligation to tell the public if it's a crime scene or not I don't think.

Majority of murders do occur at home. I am not surprised re the events today at the house. So much time to clean up as well. JMO
