Maybe. But judges have to be very careful in how they treat defendants. So far as I know, she's not engaged in audible outbursts, she's not tried to engage inappropriately with her attorneys during testimony, she's not making noticeable non-verbal noises, she's remained seated when she's supposed to, and she's stood when she's supposed to. I'm not sure he'd be on solid grounds to "reprimand" her for making facial expressions, for covering her ears, for hiding her face with her hair, or for silently mouthing words.

One thing that makes me think it would be wrong for the judge to address the issue is the question asked by a juror very early on-- something like "should we ignore the behaviors?" The judge said he'd answer after talking with the attorneys. I believe his eventual answer was something like he wasn't going to give an answer to the question. That tells me he decided her behavior in court is not an area he should comment on. At least not while her behavior remains at the level it is. If she's found guilty, no one wants to have to have a redo! And prejudicial conduct by the judge could be an appeal issue. Personally I'd think it would have gotten pretty easy for the jurors to ignore what's she's doing now that they've see it day after day. And I can't believe an experienced judge is bothered by it. Witnesses are prepped to face the jury and/or the questioner. So I'm not sure how truly disruptive her behavior is anyway.

Agreed.

She is trying to pretend to be crazy. Reminds me of that movie, with Sissy Spacek, in "Carrie".

That thought crossed my mind as well.

But, I think the insanity plea doesn't have much chance of working.

For me, if she were truly insane when she committed the crimes, she would have turned herself in when she returned to sanity. But, she didn't. She connived, lied, manipulated, and committed more crimes. That indicates (MOO) that she was herself when she killed him. She knew exactly what she was doing and she continued along that path. If given the chance today, she'd probably concoct another cockamamie story.

Did y’all see this hand gesture she made at 18:04 ?

Also, this was just after the lawyers explained to the judge that the suitcase Gannon was found inside would be brought into the courtroom. When the judge said all rise for the jury, she rose, looked down to adjust her blouse then quickly placed her hand in this position as she brought her head up.

I can't clearly see her thumb (and I tried sharpening it), but I doubt it was an "I love you" symbol.

I’m glad you posted that interview. There are so many red flags!
She totally incriminated herself just because she wanted attention. Her grammar is so horrific that it would make most listeners question her PhD in education. And who would ever drag their child into a public situation like that? We all heard TS coaching her. I think that was a turning point where most people assumed she was guilty.

For me personally, it was just confirmation of what I already suspected. Many others too I believe. Her story was hinky from the start and sadly we have all been here long enough to spot hinky a mile off :(
Looking at the defense witness list (and having done some sleuthing early on), I think you can assume that anyone with the following names is related/family to LS - either by blood or previous marriage: Hardin, Hunt, Locklear. It will be interesting to see what they have to say about LS.

Also, Lowry. I think I saw her stepsister on the witness list.

Morning all. Here for Gannon ,today's going to be a rough one with the autopsy results and everything. I'm hoping HH and the defendants brother testify soon to see how they view her mental health. Jmoo

Yes, we are meant to hear from the Florida ME today, so if anyone feels they need to sit this one out, PLEASE DO. Between our members here and the reporters on twitter, you should be able to get a Cliff's Notes summary of important things after the fact if you feel you need to know. Please don't force yourself to listen if you're uncomfortable, and please, please close the feed if it's too upsetting.

As I said to another member the other day, we care, so we all feel an urge to 'witness', even if it is too much. We can't help Gannon by doing that, and we may harm ourselves.

The jury and alternates have taken on that responsibility of witnessing everything for every single one of us. They are standing for us, and as hard as it is, we have to trust they'll reach a verdict in a way that delivers justice.

So, in short, take care of yourselves. The trial will proceed, however you're travelling. Don't burn yourselves out; we would miss you here on WS.

MOO

She's a monster, and anyone that is insane would not drive hundreds of miles across the country to get rid of a body. She made several sane efforts to get rid of precious Gannon, she had no regard for his life, only hers.

During openings, prosecutors told the jury that Letecia Stauch intentionally stabbed Gannon Stauch before crushing the boy's skull "like an eggshell" and shooting him.

It happened so fast I'm surprised someone noticed. I wonder what that hand gesture means to her? It has numerous different meanings, depending on who you ask.

Can I say - I don't remember who found the documentary Crazy Not Insane about Dorothy Otnow Lewis and brought it up on the threads, but I was able to watch it through my Foxtel subscription today, and I am very grateful I got to see it, so, thank you.

I can't say I always agreed with her ideas or conclusions, but I came away with a deep respect for the work and what she has been trying to do for decades, often while being ridiculed by the public and her peers and without support.

I think people are more open to things like brain injury being connected to violent behaviour now, especially with the recent focus on CTE and improved scanning techniques, but it was interesting to see how she has persisted in staying curious, staying open, and working in this field of study for so long when others might have been discouraged and changed focus long ago.

I certainly will be doing my best to view her testimony in this trial, if and when she takes the stand.

(Still don't believe LS has DID or any other mental health condition that made her kill Gannon. And I am not a doubter of the existence of DID as a condition! I just don't think it applies, with what we've seen so far of her behaviour and actions.)

MOO
I haven't seen Crazy, not Insane, so I should probably take a peek. There is a lot of criticism out there on it, though. Best one is below. I've already posted it in a prior thread.

I'd say let defendant and defense attorney(s) bad behavior continue as the jury will take notice. imo.

Defendant #LeteciaStauch seems to have a smile while chatting with defense attorney during the break.
If I were on the jury I'd be examining every single thing she does.
The one thing that already stands out to me is her utter lack of any type of remorse or sorrow over what she did.
Or even sorrow over the details given, about the death of a child. It doesn't appear to phase her, at all.
That's not even human.

My immediate thought- the hand gesture from the movie The Hunger Games. imo

Looking forward to autopsy testimony this morning. Do we know who else will be testifying today?

I would do the same. Legally, is a defendant's behaviour in the courtroom supposed to be considered part of the evidence in a case?

According to Wikipedia, that's the Sign of the Horns.

Why she flashed it is anyone's guess, but it indicates to me that she's still trying to manipulate someone or send a covert message.

I said maybe The Hunger Games hand gesture, but nevermind. She’s doing something different here. imo

I can also see her making things up to tease the audience (us). imo
