They'll be going home soon for the night. IIRC they said they'd work until 4:45 each day, yes?

YAY!! I'm here just as they are leaving for the night!!
lol
Atleast I didn't miss the verdict... Yet!! ; )

I would never want to be in a room with him alone if he slipped out of those handcuffs. My very intelligent 32yr son has schizoaffective disorder with voices and delusions., we have been dealing with this since his mid twenties.

Intrusive thoughts and voices NEVER go away. Meds just makes them sleepy, mellow and take the edge off. I have lots of experience with psychotic episodes believe you me. JH does not fit the mold.

JH does not come across as being truly schizophrenic to me.

Bless you and your son and your family, Whiteorchids -- you must truly be a very special person.

I must say your remark above about JH not being schizophrenic is indeed interesting. Thanks for sharing.

A friend of ours was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder when we were all in college. We got a call from some folks he knew that we did not. They said they were either going to bring him to our house (a bunch of us lived in a big old house) or they were going to call the police. They brought him over and he indeed was in a state of mind that we had never seen. He lit fire to our living room curtains (no biggie to put out). I was on the phone (of course it was Saturday and not a weekday) for a couple of hours trying to find out what we could do for him. No help unless we swore out an arrest warrant... Somehow we were able to take him to the mental facility at the regional hospital and he walked right in. They kept him and he was committed by his parents (his mother was schizophrenic) to the state hospital. We visited him in several weeks and he was in a ward room with about --10 others. Zombie'd way far out there. He was on Haldol/haloperidol -- the young man we knew and loved was not in there. He saw a psychiatrist once a week. He slowly got better and now, 30 years later, he is his own man again. It was a tuff row for him to travel... But he did get better. He never had any more harmful episodes besides the one he had at our place, but he kept on his meds. He was a National Merit Scholar and managed to graduate college with honors in Physics. Brilliant. And a sweet guy with a great sense of humor and very creative. Lots of talent. A cheerleader in his college years.

Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts on JH -- you surely know from where you speak.

And may peace and calmness surround you and those you love at all times.

I am reading all posts and appreciate every single one. I have so much to say but I've been put on new meds and feel really sick. :(

Thank you everyone for your input. I hope I feel better soon so I can get more involved.

Feel better soon little miss Maisie!

Hope verdict comes in tomorrow afternoon. Hate to think about the jury taking home this burden for a long weekend.

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, Maisiebelle, but be sure to take the time to know your body and to take the time to listen to it. Close your eyes, and take a nice, long, cleansing breath. (That always helps me a little, sometimes a lot...)

We love you, Sweetie. Feel better soon, you wonderful Brit !!

You are all so lovely! You make me feel special! (((Hugs)))

So, I went over of the list of jurors. A man and a women were at Columbine. About 3, said they had someone in their family with some type of mental illness, one was a paramedic who transported mental patients. One an attorney, which I found curious. Usually, attorneys don't get picked for juries but they may be a cooperate or personal injury that didn't conflict.

I'm thinking just within this group, we have people that experienced first hand, a mass murder-they add an important view to the group. The attorney can help with the law. And the one's who experienced mental illness first hand- they easily understand that mental illness does not equal insane.

We had some generous posters here who shared their experiences with mental illness. To witnessing someone who is having a delusion &/or a psychotic break. They said that there was NO WAY that the person experiencing that would have ANY of the capabilities jh did. Even went further to say, they wouldn't be able to even drive to a place in full gear let alone to function to handle the guns. To that, he was speaking clearly to the police the whole time! They would be talking would be jibberish or at least make no sense in the throes of a psychotic break.

Just things I was putting together reviewing the jurors. Some who think he was insane, there are those who can explain that's not a way a psychotic break looks like, the attorney who can explain what is needed legally.

Great points!

Thank you so much for sharing. It's so nice to hear a success story. Your right those hospitals are awful. It's like the one from one flew over the cuckoos nest. My son is in and out of them over the last 10 years. They are his second home. Very few stay on their meds or they are constantly being changed because because they no longer work. Finding the right cocktail and staying on them is key. They usually make the patient very sleepy and hard to function so then they go off of them and it all starts over again. Unfortunately, my son is not a functioning schizo-affective w/ bi-polar. In HS he was 4.0 student, very handsome and was an awesome athlete snowboarder, skateboarder, baseball, football etc. He excelled in everything thing he did. When he went off to college it all went downhill from there. He has never been the same since. I used to be his conservator but it got too difficult. His new home is prison. Thank god he never hurt anyone. I just don't see any of my sons psychotic episodes or symptoms in JH.

I've watched a fair number of trials, and I must say that a "Friday" (or in this case, Thursday) or whatever happens to be the last day of the week of court proceedings, can be quite a bringer of verdicts.... We've all seen it -- usually it is announced that a verdict has been reached right after lunch.... We'll see...

How tragic, such loss.

Love and light to you, whiteorchids.

Similar w/ my mom (who has BPD)... she's completely normal on the right balance of meds (or as normal as any of us) but if her psych doc or general practitioner changes anything ... even the slightest change in the dosage of a drug ... can completely throw everything off balance... especially if there's also something going on in her life that causes a considerable amount of stress. Like right before she retired (which is a major event in our lives... A lot of people think about it in terms of less stress but many actually have to get used to not getting up and going to work everyday and some people feel like they lose a sense of purpose in their lives, etc), she started having some issues w/ asthma and her doctor prescribed an inhaler. Well, the steroid in the inhaler caused her to get all amped up and have trouble sleeping (which can be a huge trigger for anyone w/ a MI) and before we knew it, she escalated into full blown mania and had to be hospitalized. Something as simple as being prescribed an asthma inhaler can set it off. It causes me a lot of stress. Every single day I find myself worrying... is she getting enough sleep? Is she calling more than she usually does? Is she talking faster than usual? Is she not calling as much? Is she not talking as much? Does she normally spend this much money on scrapbooking supplies? Does she seem sad? My dad likes to stay in denial about a lot. He, understandably, doesn't want her to "get sick" (as we refer to the manic/depressive episodes) & he doesn't want to upset her by asking too many q's because he worries that might exacerbate things if she is kind of teeter-tottering on the edge. It's truly a nightmare that never ends and I can only imagine what it's like for my mom... experiencing all of the ups and downs firsthand and feeling like everyone treats me with kid gloves.

Ahhhh... sorry for the rant.

Prayers for you cujenn. That must be so difficult for you. I know exactly how you feel. It's so difficult for the family. Your are so awesome to be there and help look out for her but at the same time you have to take care of yourself. It can really be draining.

Hugs to you [emoji72]🏼

1. Most ppl with mental illness aren't dangerous. 2. Most murderers aren't MI. 3. Most mass murderers are MI. #theatertrial #theatershooting

LOL..I always have a however a'brewing...But would any of those people be willing to even excuse one of their own IF they committed such a crime??? I doubt it really. While parents/family may have sympathy..They also realize..actions have consequences..malicious plots, plans and manipulating everyone around them in order to full fill their fantasy is simply inexcusable..especially when Pros. proved in spades..JH KNEW it was not only wrong..but capable of thinking clearly about how to deceive everybody around him..

JH was never under any control by anyone..so was free to do or act however he wanted..(He'd been hiding it from everyone including his parents since he was young)... Now as an adult/ NO controls it actually enabled him to proceed unfettered to plan his REVENGE on LIFE and by proxy "Humanity".

I agree with Hatfield totally on what his motive was..and it wasn't really about gaining value from those he killed..that theory was actually taken from some of the readings he had done..looking for that list of excuses he could use IF he got caught...IF was just gaining value..Why be so revengeful to Fenton..attempting to blame his whole life on her and it's her fault for what he did..SMH!!

I also believe he did this for his own personal "gain"--make himself known by one and all --- He didn't want to share this shooting with terrorists, he wanted sole ownership. This could probably go with the killers in Columbine and how they are always referenced during school shooting. It is a different and scary world out there.
I do agree with Hatfield as well. This was planned down to mental illness and how far he would go. It is interesting that when he had his "psychotic break" he was scheduled to meet with Gur--??????? In my mind obvious.

Hello everyone! I'm feeling a bit better today. Well until I take my meds again lol!

Far too convenient!!! I believe he was coached about how to behave.

My theory is he wanted to do something really big that he would get notoriety and be remembered otherwise he was just a nobody wallflower women didn't notice or want. He wanted to be a bad boy. That's why he posted that line "Will you come visit me in prison" on friend finder and Match websites. Now he's got photos of woman that were sent to him plastered all over his cell walls. I'm sure they keep filling up his commissary account too. JH is quite popular in Jail. Remember the guy that left the note on the jail table and wanted his autograph???

These women that want an inmate really have mental issues even though some are smart, successful, and pretty. Famous killers Lyle and Erik Menendez comes to mind but there are many others.

I do believe JH is very mentally ill but wasn't insane.

Guess I'm a day late with my comments that I just made---:loveyou:
