But he will get what he wanted...to be kept away from others..I say the worst for him would be to release him to general population..and make him suffer if it's LWOP...
Mass/Serial murders often meet their demise by fellow inmates..usually wanting Notoriety themselves...So IF no DP..I say make him deal and survive with others..LOL..You know PEOPLE!!!!!!
I tried to read that notebook when it was posted on line. It was hard to make sense of a lot of it, but now after testimony more of it makes sense -- demented, twisted, and freaky.
I think he's clearly mentally ill, but at the same time he clearly knew full well what he was doing was wrong both legally and morally and wasn't delusional or hearing voices or anything like that. So Guilty, "1st degree", all the way, Guilty, "extreme indifference", all the way.
Where this will get hard, I think is in the penalty and mitigation phases, where his mental illness will play into the consideration of punishment. Myself I'd prefer LWOP: get him treatment, get him mentally healthy so he fully appreciates the horror of what he did, and lives with that.
Also, LWOP comes with fewer automatic appeals, and there's going to be a bunch of appeals.
I know that is what most of us want. The prison systems have to keep inmates safe as much as we would want him in GP it won't happen. This is high profile. The jail inmates already yell baby killer to him.
The state prison does not want to be sued by JH family or relatives if they were to put him in GP. It is the duty of the prison to keep them safe as much as they would like to throw him in GP too.
If he ends up getting LWOP it was stupid DA didn't accept plea deal to begin with. Would have saved taxpayers tons of money and JH wouldn't have gotten all this television media coverage.

DA is in a tough position: if he accepts the plea, he's vilified for 'making a deal' and 'getting the killer off'; but if the trial costs millions of dollars, he's vilified for not taking the plea. It's a no-win. And since the DA is an elected position, well, that's going to play into the decision too. People vote their hearts (he prosecutes them!) not their heads (but he spent a lot of money unnecessarily).
