Thanks. Yeah, it is very confusing and the lawyers on both sides are going to have their work cut out for them.

This case is going to be interesting to follow.

I would make a terrible juror because I already have him convicted today and we barely got through opening statements. LOL

I had him convicted (and locked up forever) and then cleared (but locked up forever) then guilty again (but still locked up forever) so you are doing better than me.

I won't be here during the daytime because I am posting tweets on the Boston Bombing trial, but I plan to read here every night.

I have a few question( from what I gathered from the tweets, comments, etc) :

What is "techno" music ?

Where did he get napalm?

And a couple of comments:

He said he had a “long standing hatred of mankind.”. Wonder why he felt that way and for how long. (I don't particularly have a liking of him right now, but I will reserve judgement for now as I do believe that some people do have mental illnesses that cloud their judgement - don't know if that's the case here yet).

I find it interesting that he "wants to research firearms laws and mental illness and body armor". It kinda leads me to believe at this time, that he planned to seek the mental illness mentality and because of the body armor, had no inclinations of "suicide by cop" at the time of the shooting. :moo:

Techno music is basically Electronic music. No real instruments used, usually no lyrics. Usually a lot of drum beats and pretty repetitive sounding but good for dance music.

I listened to most of those very long opening statements. What I can't wrap my head around is, what does it matter whether he knew right from wrong? By any standards he's crazy and dangerous. What difference does it make whether he was legally insane? He needs to be put away forever, via LWOP or death penalty (take your pick, I have a preference, but that's neither here nor there).

He can never be trusted or rehabilitated, so the consequence must be permanent. Why is there this debate about 'planned rational mind evil' vs. 'legally insane evil'? What's the point? I really don't understand why it matters. Is it that we should treat him more kindly and be more compassionate if he "didn't know right from wrong"?

It sounds like they all agree that he's schizophrenic. If someone with schizophrenia commits mass murder, IMO, the punishment should be commensurate with a non-psychotic mass murderer's punishment. I guess I reject the notion of legally insane people having different rights. If you're deadly dangerous, the consequence should be harsh and permanent, IMO.

I don't like this particular defense lawyer so far. He's really dramatic...hate the drama filled voice. He sounds like he's on stage playing a role in a Shakespeare play!

So...based on the fact that he booby trapped his apartment to blow up so the police and fire would be there, and not able to get to the theater...

Wouldn't that PROVE he knew what he was doing, and that it was wrong?? He was making a plan because those who come to help in these situations would be busy elsewhere, to me at least, means he knows that it was wrong for him to do what he was doing - mental illness or not!

Maybe I am not thinking it through as well as I should??

Yes.. The prosecution is first although in the youtube video they came in *a little* late. (There's a small part missing)

I am finding myself having mixed feelings about having this long trial for the death penalty. He would have plead to LWOP. Apparently no one in Colorado has been executed in many years, so even if he gets DP he will probably never be put to death. This trial is going to cost tons of money. And if the jury decides death penalty, then he will have guaranteed appeals for years.

Given that either way he is going to sit in prison for decades, and the DP is going to cost way more money, it seems like the only reason the state is going for the DP is so that everything he did is put out there for the world to see. Maybe they feel like that is a punishment he needs - for all of his horrible acts, and every detail of them, to be exposed fully, and that sitting in LWOP without a trial is just not enough given the magnitude of this crime and the huge number of victims.
