Thanks for the link.
Not endorsing this line of thought, but Adam Lanza's dad Peter says he wishes his son had never been born. Hmmmm:thinking:
And this whole "frayed family" bit sounds so much like Hanlon's book. Lord we all go thru unpleasant stuff. It's life. Oodles of kids that grow up in horrible situations turn out to be wonderful souls.

Here is a really good article about the family of Holmes.

...But more than two months into his mass-murder trial, James Holmes has yet to turn around in his seat and acknowledge them.....
Two years later, Holmes said he didn't care if got the death penalty but would probably fight it for his parents' sake.

"They would miss me," he said. (Oh ya sure, he does not want to die. Two words... "body armor" he wants to live alright.)

I just now got a minnit to read the article, colette -- thanks for including. It made me sad for his parents. It had to be tuff for them, beginning with his launch into manhood when he was in 8th grade, etc. Most caring parents know that this is a tuff time for girls and boys -- they don't like to answer questions/they think their parents are dorks (some do, anyway)/they have weird dreams/people look at them funny/"why can't I be more cool in school?", etc. etc.

So sometimes, if everything is at least okay, you don't butt in or ask a lot of questions as a parent. Certainly with some kids you can, and easily. With some, I would think, you can't. (We were fortunate with ours, thank you, God.) You just watch & hope, I guess... They had to know JH was "special" IMO in several ways. Quiet, smart, brooding, probably moody, etc., etc. Now they wonder, "Should we have done more, sooner than 8th grade? When -- 2nd grade?" Is it all our fault? Oh what should we have done? I can't imagine how they feel. And going to court to see it all, and to see him over there, still in his own mind. You want to hug him, and you want to scream. I'm glad they have each other.

It makes me so sad for all of us. No anger at this moment, though that will change soon enuff, I'm sure.

This man has left such a sad, sad string of victims who will never, ever be the same again. Regardless of the verdict, JH needs to be securely away from the public, for the rest of his life. Oh, that must be how this will end. It must.

JMHO -- please forgive this sad rant

I think in some instances parents don't want to see/acknowledge "special" things about their kids. He was doing quite well in his school work-so I'm sure they grabbed on to that little tidbit and held on for everything. Sometimes you can't see what you don't want to see.

I don't know how I feel about his parents but I do object to the blame or partial blame being laid at his moms feet due to pregnancy & delivery---that just isn't fair to me---(unless she was a heavy duty drug/drinking problem--) I'm getting tired of throwing whatever at the wall and pray something hits---hoping that the jury sees thru it like we do--this is a pathetic defense--and it angers me! Not looking forward to an afternoon of Mr. King....

OK, as I see this, it is really, really, really important to get in that jh is schizophrenic. They think if they get it in, the jury will conclude that jh was schizophrenic at the time of the murders.
However, the problem is that he was diagnosed after the murders by one defense doc.
And how can they make a connection? By testifying about the Nov. 2012 incident? Again, what he did in Nov. 2012 does not apply to the day of the murders.
IMO, I don't think the jury will make this conclusion. Thoughts?

As I've stated before---my mom had dementia---Can't tell you how much I zero in on memory and memory loss. I think once you have dealt with a disease (someone had a sister with schizophrenia)--you pay close attention to the signs and symptoms of the disease...jmo

I did not realize the Rachel Gur's husband is some sort of Brain imaging specialist..He testified in a Florida case during mitigating phase ( Sentencing phase of DP trial)..and FLA. Supreme Court kinda dismissed his rationale...LOL

Here's his basic testimony in a nutshell!!

At the Spencer hearing, the defense presented Dr. Ruben Gur, a psychologist specializing in neuroimaging (V18/2983-84). According to Gur, MRI and PET scans conducted on Smith reveal abnormalities in Smith’s brain functioning, indicating that Smith had an impaired, damaged brain

Sound familiar?? taken from link pdf file page 85 which was also debunked by another expert...LOL
