I have a BA in Psychology and have been so wrapped up in this tragedy ever since it happened... in an attempt to make sense of something that is so obviously senseless. I've searched for possible new developments on almost a monthly basis over these past three years, so it's interesting for me to hear the details that haven't been released to the public before now. I already knew he was pleading 'guilty by reason of insanity', but now I've learned several psychiatric professionals have determined he has schizophrenia (per his defense team).

However, schizophrenia doesn't seem to fit for me. Schizophrenic patients are notorious for having a lack of focus, disorganized thoughts and speech, and a lack of motivation. I find it hard to believe that someone with schizophrenia could meticulously plan out that orchestrated attack and see it through successfully.

If anyone is interested to see the behavior of a typical patient with schizophrenia, there's a video on YouTube called 'Four Patients with Schizophrenia' that displays the behavior of 4 different individuals.

I agree that an extraordinary amount of planning and control went into not only the massacre, but also the expert booby-trapping of his apartment with explosives.

I do think Julie Shenecker was legally insane when she committed the murders of her two children, yet a jury found her guilty. Many of us who have watched video interviews of Shenecker during her incarceration believe the jury got it wrong.

Getting back to Holmes: I'm trying to "suspend my mind" until all the evidence and facts have been presented.

Thanks Chelly, I'm sure y'all will be hearing from me a lot! And, thanks to everyone who has been transcribing the live feeds. I'm at work and unable to watch for most of it, so it's been a big help.

I definitely agree with you about JH--being mentally ill--and I also agree that one can be mentally ill and legally sane simultaneously. After all, sociopaths are considered mentally ill individuals, as they often have antisocial personality disorder. I think everyone can agree that one has to be mentally ill to carry out such a heinous act of violence against so many innocent people. I'm just not so sure that schizophrenia is what compelled JH to commit such acts.
