As has been said many times, I really like the way this Judge handles things.

When he asks for them to approach, he says WHY!

"Please approach to discuss scheduling". Instead of being secretive, he makes it clear why instead of making them (and us!) wonder "OOHHH...what is wrong now??"

No. Someone else testified that someone would have had to walk a bit further into the apartment than just the doorway.

I mean, it makes sense. He was in there and had to set it all up and walk out the door. He couldn't have it so close that he set it off himself. But since it was relatively dark, and low, a First Responder wouldn't have seen it.

ETA - the previous testimony said that First Responders do NOT stop in doorways and once they breech the door, they move directly into the apartment. Which would have set it off.

Just to discuss his "insanity" a bit further...

It is plain as day, to me anyway, that the 38 minute interview about all of the setup in his apartment that we read via the transcript...

He was NOT under any paranoid delusion!! He didn't tell them "Well, Obama said that if I didn't booby trap my apartment to get First Responders to be there instead of the theater, I would die instead!"

He didn't tell them ANYTHING that would make me - and hopefully all members of the jury - think that he was anything other than in full control of his faculties.

The hands in the pockets stance really bothers me too! It's disrespectful towards the court.

I'm really curious to find out how long an episode of insanity can last. Whether the person can drift in and out of the state of mind and whether they have any recollection of that altered state.

When he was taken to police headquarters for questioning and he saw that sign - the one that said 'Serious crimes against children' or something - he seemed worried that he had hurt/killed children. Surely he must have seen all the kids running about the lobby and inside theatre 9. I wonder why he asked.

I noticed the hands in the pocket almost immediately after JH stands up. I am wondering if his defense team or security told him to put his hands in his pockets....1) somewhat of a safety measure as it would take a few seconds to get them out to go after someone 2) so that he does not show any emotion through his hands, clenching fists, wiggle of fingers...etc. At least he stands up....like some others don't.

I cannot see him be insane...mental issues yes, but not insane. He really planned this out.

Who's credit cards or money did he use to purchase all the weapons, clothes etc.? That should have been a flag to his parents if it was their card. Has anyone brought up, how he purchased all this stuff yet?

MsJosie - it was said that he used his own credit card for all his evil stuff. His parents had a joint credit acct. w/him that he used for all regular stuff, food, groceries, etc.
He knew what he was doing, IMO, hiding all the weapons purchases, etc.

It was mentioned that he used some sort of debit card connected with his bank account to pay for everyday items..clothing, food, usual things needed for school/university. While online he would use a credit card and when buying anything in person he didn't want his parents to know about Gerr!..which parent's would have no accounting of where it was spent. No doubt he would just pay that credit card ( minimum payment) so not to look overused from bank account..so parent's would have no clue...All they did was to put money into his bank account...

I wonder what his credit card balance was (including interest) on his credit card when he got arrested?? Now, that would be telling. JH didn't have a job, his folks paid for everything, rent, food, clothing, hydro/utilities etc.

If I was funding any child of mine..I would require receipts for every flipped dime I spending. Even as children, they were encouraged to mow lawns, shovel driveways, deliver papers in order for them to contribute ..ala upgrade some purchase to their preference..as I could only afford the basics..

These parent's basically funded his ability to do whatever he wanted. He chose to plan and implement his evil scheme without any interferences. He manipulated them, his psychiatrists, his professors...everyone...I often use to say to myself.."What out for those quiet ones"..they're often more going on in their heads than what they present publicly

Yes. They are on lunch break, as it is 12:40 local time. Court to resume at 1:25 local time.

This particular stream has a talking head and legal experts during breaks. And they replay relevant testimony.

On top of that, they actually MUTE the white noise during bench discussion. That is most appreciated by many! LOL!!

Not only, as a previous poster wrote, did he NOT say to the police something wacked, as the ex. Obama told me to kill people...

BUT, when explaining the booby trapped apt., he told them 'it was a diversion so police would be there at the fire & not at the theater!!!!!!!!

Again, he DIDN'T say, 'I wanted to set my apt. bldg. on fire because - whatever wacked answer like, I knew my apt. was bugged & cameras were recording me, or 'it was haunted'...

I'm guessing he must be on something as his defense is saying he is mentally ill. But.. I'm not sure about that.

During opening statements, the defense said JH is currently taking Haldol and has been taking it since his first psych evaluation. They said this might make him appear dazed at times.

For those not familiar with the medication...
Haldol is an antipsychotic drug primarily prescribed to treat patients with schizophrenia. It can also be used to treat Turrets Syndrome, facial and/or verbal tics, certain types of seizures, and manic episodes in patients with Bipolar Disorder. It can also be used to calm patients exhibiting severely agitated or aggressive behavior. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.
