Everything I got from the notebook was he is a PSYCHOPATH...but not insane.

His "research mental illness" really blows anything else out of the water.

I wonder if there will be a forensic analysis of this. Different pens used, showing written at different times, etc.

Just curious. What is your definition of insane? What criminal is a good example of someone you believe was insane? TIA

Re: James Holmes "research mental illness"
If I suffered from cancer of the liver, I would be researching liver cancer constantly, same with diabetes or any other disease. Thus, if I suffered from mental illness I would be researching that subject as well. Wouldn't nearly everyone?

John Hinkley is a good example.

Andrea Yates is another.

I think both were correctly judged insane.

I do not believe JH was. He stated in his own words...he was obsessed with killing people. His planning and other statements tell me that he was not acting as a Schizophrenic. Or that he didn't know that what he was planning is wrong.

I believe both of the above people did have those issues. I have not heard anything that tells me that he had any issues with continuing on with his regular life while implementing his plan. There is no "slipping in and out of reality" here. Or if there was, his plan was not included in his "out of reality" part. He was going about his daily life, including taking college exams (though he didn't do well...which could have been because he was planning to commit mass murder instead of studying) all the while planning all of this. Those who he has interacted with during all of this - during his purchases etc. - that say he was not acting out of character. Even if they didn't know him, they could see he was acting within "society normal".

From my understanding, people who are actually insane have a hard time taking care of themselves, normal ADL's. He clearly had no issue with this, while putting together a very detailed, organized plan. He wasn't impulsive, otherwise he would have just taken the gun and shot up whatever the first place he got to.

Those are my thoughts...hope this helps?

Not in the context of the way he put it in his notebook. At least the way I see it!

Something that came out during the partial reading of James Holmes' diary is that he clearly suffered from severe Trichotillomania, a hair-pulling disorder that when extreme is associated with mental illness.

According to the diary, Holmes pulled out entire sections of the back of his scalp creating bald spots. He then focused on pulling out the hair from other areas of his head, moving to his beard and then pulling out hair from eyebrows.

Andrea Yates planned her children's killing to.o as many others that are insane. My thoughts thus far is that JH suffered with MI at a very young age. Schizophrenia is a degenerative progressive disease and gets worse with age. I think he had a better handle on it as a youngster but as he got older and the disease progressed he lost control of it therefore starting to lose interest in school, was failing etc. loss of reality all signs. I think the law of defining insanity needs to be updated, amended as when that was written we did not know as much then as we do now about mental diseases. I personally know criminal attorneys that feel the same way.

I can't wait to read the notebook in full and hear from the mental health experts. We have a long way to go. I hope it gets more interesting soon.

I'm convinced that JH has something wrong with him. I think the things he wrote in his notebook were not from a normal state of mind. I still need to be convinced that he was legally insane.

I agree. At least the way it's written.

Judge will allow the 911 audio from Theater 8, the first from that adjacent theater. Call came from #theatershooting victim.

They bought #Batman masks, candy before movie. During a gun scene in movie, he heard pops, thought they were fireworks.

Someone stood up and cursed, in pain. He saw smoke. Something hit him and ears began ringing. Felt liquid in his hands.

He saw the other man wounded in Theater 8 and walked out toward lobby. Saw people "stampeding out of Theater 9."
