Didn't realize that! But that makes sense---He appeared (to me at least) to use mental illness as an excuse very often during those tapes--also all the research he did in his self diagnosis---he knew how he should present himself--in other words ---- I'm with you :thinking:

BBM--This IMO is crucial. Researching mental illness while planning mass murder and conveniently keeping a journal of his "mental" state just prior to the shooting (yet did not have a history of journaling) is a huge red flag to me. I think it speaks to his LEVEL of pre-planning, and strongly suggests that not only was he preparing to kill many people and ensuring he didn't get hurt or die in the process but he was also preparing for the aftermath of his actions as well. It is clear to me that he was creating/laying out the framework/doing the research/planting documented evidence of mental illness in anticipation of going for a insanity/mental defect defense--WELL in advance.

To date the evidence proves to me that he absolutely had a mental illness, not that he was insane. These are two very distinctly different conditions and it is up to the Prosecution to thoroughly inform the jury of this FACT. I suspect, and hope, that the Prosecutor will introduce the jury to the psychological concept of Malingering for the jury as welll.

ETA: BTW his research of mental illnesses/disorders was rather in depth in light of the fact knew with accuracy quite a lot about specific Diagnoses and their syptomology and required criterion.

Ted Bundy will always scare the crap out of me---I used to hang out at Lake Sammamish (he also ushered in (at least in my little self absorbed world of teenage years)--crime in my area--prior to don't remember it

Found a good article on comparisons of Psychopath vs sociopath. While it's often interchangeable by many..I think it's due to many similar/same symptoms...the one thing that was likely why Dr. Reid doesn't feel he's a true psychopath is because he was able to create certain bond ..as in his family..and could never hurt them physically. and a Psychopath on the other hand wouldn't think twice about victimizing his family or friends..as he couldn't care less. But I have to say..JH sure does have a lot of the list of characteristics of psychopath ..??

I love how this Judge wants to keep on going--Juror has doctor at 2:30--lunch 1:30 to 3:30---they will resume after that....another trial another state and court would have been cancelled for the whole day!

But if he was really wanting to look insane in that notebook he would have have added the most significant symptoms of being schizophrenic and insane which is hearing voices of another source telling him to do this and seeing things that are not there.

Believe you me if I was setting myself up for an insanity defense in that notebook with the experience I have I could have done a much better job. Lol

I wonder if he didn't want to go that far because he wanted to take 'credit' for the shootings himself. Maybe he wouldn't get his 'points' if he said a voice told him to do it.

BBM-- I'm not sure but the fact that there were no indications of psychosis begs the question, if all these people are saying he is schizophrenic (or any variation thereof) why wasn't it evident in his documentation? It is extremely hard to hide symptoms of this type. This just further convinces me that the notebook was fabricated or used to set the foundation for a later defense.

ITA, but in my honest opinion he only set out the crumbs for his defense. Given his very meticulous planning, it seems to me his main objective was to use what limited energy ( based upon the info available, I believe, among other things, he suffered from Major Depressive Disorder--likely MDD with psychotic feature) he did have, to ensure that his mass murder and survival plan was successful, because perhaps he thought that by the time he went to trial he could more fully realize the insanity issue.

JH's Aunt who is a twin of his father also has schizoaffective disorder just as JH has been diagnosed with #theatershooting #theatertrial




I was glad that Dr. Reid made mention fraternal is different than identical twin---everyone always puts twins in the identical spectrum ---- they are different. I was glad they stated that difference.
