I wonder why they didn't let the judge know they were having problems reaching unanimity, usually the judge will send them back to continue to deliberate like SS in JA trial. They only deliberated six hours unless they knew they had a stealth juror.

That is what I thought as well and so am confused.

We have to remember that the shooter was found guilty. He didn't get off with NGRI. That would have been so much worse. He will never hurt another innocent person again.

There are still appeals for LWOP. Why are people saying there are no appeals because he did not get DP????

There are automatic appeals with the death penalty. He'd have to finance an appeal of LWOP on his own. Quite hard to do.

Anyway, it's been a long trial my WS friends. I hope we can all get past this and have a nice weekend. I'm going to go have a good cry now. I feel no justice for the victims has been served.

There is no 2nd chance for death in CO & no dynamite charge. #TheaterShooting def James Holmes will live in prison for the rest of his life

RSBM

I think.. with John Gardener's (murdered Amber DuBoise and Chelsea King) lwop sentence ; the DA said there would be no appeals.
But every case- and state - is different ?

Somewhat mixed feelings here. I WISH there would be no appeals, so that the families of the victims don't have to keep returning. This is horrible and needs to be over and done with; imo.
I believe such a crime as Holmes committed was deserving of the dp. But that's my opinion ; and if recommended by the jury, would have meant that this would go on and on. :(
:moo:

As always, my utmost condolences to the families of the deceased and the surviving VICTORS !
I wish them solace and comfort , and the strength to go on living.

Of course there are appeals. Just the anti DP folks trying to justify that killers deserve compassion and pity and understanding...

@KellyCBS4: .@StanBushTV says the shooter smiled at his attorneys, thanking them at the end of #theatershootingtrial today.

Must not have been to crazy if he can thank his attorneys. Sad sad sad.

I don't know why he should have the luxury. I am not the one who voted for him to get life in prison.

I'm not trying to imply you did or know, just giving MOO on why so many wanted DP instead of LWOP, even if symbolic. To me, as a mother, it makes a difference. If someone murdered my child I would not want him able to hold his parents and feel their love ever again. To press in tight to their chest and hear their heartbeat, to feel their breath as they tell him they love him...he just doesn't deserve that.

His parents have lots of money. That is a very expensive, exclusive area of San Diego. The homes are beautiful. They own property in BIg Bear Lake CA. They can afford an attorney. Could even be someone to do it pro bono.

I don't think I've popped over here since the end of the Arias fiasco. Seems like deja vu all over again when all is said and done.

@jsteffendp: A police officer in the courtroom wept as the verdicts were read. Another let out a sigh when Veronica's name was read.

@larryryckman: Tears from victims, cops and gunman's mother as James Holmes is sentenced to life in prison in theatershooting

No guarantee of that....

I don't know where I stand. I said up thread I would not want to conduct his MH assessment due to the fact that I did assessments in prison for inmates about to get paroled then I would write parole plans. I used to think all people who take a life deserve to have their life taken but after working with many people convicted for murder it was hard to say that. Not putting JH in this category at all but reform is possible. But I'm still for the DP for this kind of crap.

SABBM

((( HUGS ))), Whiteorchids ! I know, my feelings as well.
Good god --- if murdering 12 people and attempting to slaughter even more is not deserving of the death penalty, than what is ??
Right now I just want the relatives of the victims and the survivors to be able to put this behind them as much as possible.

Seems Brady, Nelson, Higgs would be proud to pro bono as many appeals as he wants. He's their causes celeb

I doubt he will attack someone one on one. He is scared of people. He prefers to do his murdering from a distance.

She should be happy. She will be able to hug and visit her son now. Maybe even attend his marriage at the prison. from all the girls already writing him and sending photos like the one who was jailed for contempt of court. Not sure about conjugal visits for lifers though. Every state is different here in Cali no, but possibly in CO.
