I agree that it is likely someone from Jessica's general neighbourhood.

But I think there is a chance that this is a predator who went online, found the local elementary schools and then started prowling in the morning as kids started off for school. Just looking for that one little window of opportunity, that one little time when a child would be out of sight of other people.

Ted Bundy's last victim was a schoolgirl who happened to go back to her classroom to retrieve a purse, and was alone for just a few moments. He was waiting outside the school in his van.

I apologize if I missed a relevant comment on the linked post:

Is it possible the perp was simply claiming his own "insanity" when he placed JR's backpack and water bottle "a few feet" from the home of Stephenie Rochester ("SR"), who was found "not guilty by reason of insanity" in her 6 year old son's death?

In January 2012, Stephanie Rochester was sentenced to the state mental health hospital until she is deemed not to be a danger to herself or others.

Is it possible the perp was at the same hospital until recently (JR abduction and murder)? Had the perp met SR after she was admitted? .. might be worth for F.B.I. to interview SR or, at least check release records for this year (not names, just release dates) and follow up with warrants if necessary.

Interesting, thank you. I agree with your thoughts about a possible perp and asking about it.

I've been wondering if the place the backpack was has any significance to anyone around Jessica. This could be the significance, but not necessarily related to Jessica herself in anyway.

Could just be a clue. Could have just been the "I've already killed her" message. Could be more.

Does anyone think about Amber Dubois, then Chelsea King, and Gardner wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. He was scary, but wasn't displaying his victims or their belongings. Both of his murders were crimes of opportunity and he had priors escalating to murders. This freak is going to be even scarier, jmo

Thanks for posting both those accounts. I thought I was going crazy. But, now I am really confused. Which was it??? I think it is important to know what really happened. Not casting doubt on mom, but need to know which way it was because they are drastically different. jmo

The first account was a reporters interpretation of the events..

the second account is directly from an interview with the mom...

therefore.. I believe the second to be most accurate...

yah, I agree about this guy. I personally think JR was at the Countryside rec ctr on the way to school that morning (even though it was out of the way) and was contacted by someone who was there. employee? friend? visitor? lurker?
I think she may have been attempting to change into clothes that she was not allowed to wear. If she was seen changing or complimented and engaged in flattery of some sort, she have gone along with someone willingly at first.

I used to change into clothes I was not allowed to wear all the time... when I was 16. I obtained clothes I wasn't allowed to wear by trading with my friends at school.

This theory doesn't really work for me, for Jessica's case, for a couple of reasons:

1. Where does a 10 yo. who is only about 80 lbs. or so get clothes that she isn't allowed to wear?

2. Reading between the lines, I think her mom may have meant, when she said Jessica wanted to be a teenager, is that she wants to act "grown up" and do more "grown up" things... i.e. walking by herself, making her own food, picking out her own hairstyles, watching "grown up" movies. My 14 yo. began acting that way when he was ~10ish, and now my 9 yo. is doing the same thing. I really didn't take that to mean that she wanted to dress differently.

Could be that when Jessica failed to show up, the father did not want HIS child walking the mile to school alone...

Or, the father could have intended to give his son a ride all along, but waited for Jessica to drive her as well, but she never showed.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it was a mile to school. In some of the maps shown here, the school was just a short distance from the park.

ok .. but the son ended up being driven to school because he waited for her and she didn't show and he would be late otherwise? tia

This right here (quoted above) is the exact reason I don't think the perp is from the immediate area. If he were, then he'd know that Jessica meets her friends and walks to school with them quite frequently. He'd be aware of the kids she walks with and their parents as well. Knowing the boy's father drive him to school bc his son was going to be late waiting for Jessica would be something familiar to someone living in the near vicinity. I'm starting to think it was a crime of opportunity but maybe that someone in that area may have run into this perp before, kind of like he'd be familiar but maybe they didn't really "know him" know him. Maybe?

been thinking about that all day actually

So have I nurse...I think that it's likely he'll be an observer at the memorial service. It's too tempting for him to resist.

JMO, IMO, :moo:, and all other disclaimers.

I am interested to hear what you guys think about the backpack being tracked by dogs, from the spot it was left at, all the way up to the high school and back.

That's not substantiated either.

People apparently witnessed one of the scent dogs walking up to the nearby elementary school and back, but there's no confirmation whether they were tracking something or just seeking a scent.

Can anybody find that report? My pointer is to one of the articles that has been updated in place, and the old text isn't there any more :p

I was not aware of that. Interesting. Off to do some reading/research on the backpack discovery and re familiarize myself.

I rarely think of that until THIS happened! But yeah that isn't good if you think of bodies while driving through the gorgeous mountains!

I have thought of it since ... we have a large mountain open space next to our house, and have just looked out to see if I notice anything, and am extra careful about locking doors etc.

Ever since I was a kid! I was always either on the lookout for animals or looking for cars over the edge or people. When I was pretty young we came upon a car that had just driven off of the embankment and down into a river. It was up in Vail near Piney River Ranch where the roads are basically one lane. Ever since I guess I felt it was my duty to be alert because we almost passed it without seeing it.

Agree, he wanted her reamins found.

Interesting thought that the killer possibly was expecting a teenage "audience" at a known spooky location where they hang out.

If that is the case then the killer must have local knowledge of that area, maybe even have some connection to those teenagers who frequent that spooky location.

An alternative could be artistic people who use the area for photo, film, painting etc.

On Vimo there is a B/W short experimental film of that exact area, made by pupils from Dever Film School:

Pattridge Park on Vimeo

By the way, was the killer/killers in the Criminal Minds episodes a photographer? or did he just take pictures of his crimescene?
maybe jessica's killer saw that/those episodes? and got inspired?

Do you have a link to any of those Criminal Minds episodes? or know what they were called? or when they were broadcasted?

Thank you for this. You've inspired me to digiggity dig dig... Bbl.

Anyone speculating as to whether the killer may make an appearance at the memorial?

If this is a member of the community, I say odds are good he will be there. It may look odd not to be, particularly if he lives in Jessica's immediate neighborhood.

MOO

could be why they're making it public, though last night on the news they asked people to maybe stay home if they didn't know her so that people who did can get in there.

The girl's remains were found last Wednesday at an Arvada open space park. Police said the body was not "intact." Sources told 7NEWS her body had been dismembered and pieces of her body are still missing.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...eks?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Graphic, just skip if you have a sensitive stomach:

I think my point was, and I didn't want to rush to say anything, and It is still complete speculation, but 4 major causes of death in these situations are: gunshots, stabbings, strangulation, and suffocation. Stabbings and gunshots are commonly in the torso or head(gun)/neck(knife). Strangulation=neck and suffocation=mouth/nose. This would lead me to believe that her head is missing, and I know a lot of us have already speculated about that, I just think this is more evidence to show that. I don't believe animals were the cause of the "not in-tact", and if they had been they would have gone for the middle and not a head. But that is one thing to take away from the statement about the autopsy.

I think it's possible something of her was placed in that backpack.

16, with conditions. But not alone before that.

How old do you have to be for a farm license! 14 or 15 there?

Investigators have stated that this perp seemed to be taunting them with the placement of the backpack, right? Also the place where her remains were left could indicate taunting. If the perp is taunting le it leads me to believe Jessica was likely targeted, that he knew her routine and had seen her before and planned ahead.
So, what kind of person taunts investigators and or the public? This is common on fiction but how common in real life? Anyone know any examples of criminals who have done this? I am wondering what the motivation would be. It would seem that this person is not only a petophile but also a planner, taunter, local knowledge, murderer, dismemberer, and game player. Have we seen that in the past? It seems so much like a fiction plot.

This was the first one I thought of: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1256091/

And there is another one but I'm having a hard time figuring out what the whole plot was so I can't remember enough to google it.

We don't have them ... last I heard there was a bill in the senate to approve it at 14, not sure what has happened, I'll look it up.

In murders that are sexual in nature, offenders tend to kill by strangulation. I would think that is very plausible since the victim in this case is so young.
