I used to change into clothes I was not allowed to wear all the time... when I was 16. I obtained clothes I wasn't allowed to wear by trading with my friends at school.

This theory doesn't really work for me, for Jessica's case, for a couple of reasons:

1. Where does a 10 yo. who is only about 80 lbs. or so get clothes that she isn't allowed to wear?

2. Reading between the lines, I think her mom may have meant, when she said Jessica wanted to be a teenager, is that she wants to act "grown up" and do more "grown up" things... i.e. walking by herself, making her own food, picking out her own hairstyles, watching "grown up" movies. My 14 yo. began acting that way when he was ~10ish, and now my 9 yo. is doing the same thing. I really didn't take that to mean that she wanted to dress differently.

Nail. On. Head. :)

Will any of you locals be at the memorial tonight? We will be lighting a candle for Jessica in Louisiana tonight. My heart is with her family, the Westminster community, and the hundreds of LE focused on hunting down the monster responsible.

Investigators have stated that this perp seemed to be taunting them with the placement of the backpack, right? Also the place where her remains were left could indicate taunting. If the perp is taunting le it leads me to believe Jessica was likely targeted, that he knew her routine and had seen her before and planned ahead.
So, what kind of person taunts investigators and or the public? This is common on fiction but how common in real life? Anyone know any examples of criminals who have done this? I am wondering what the motivation would be. It would seem that this person is not only a petophile but also a planner, taunter, local knowledge, murderer, dismemberer, and game player. Have we seen that in the past? It seems so much like a fiction plot.

correct, they speculate the backpack was left where it was in the manner it was as EITHER a taunt or a distraction. I am voting for distraction. but taunt may well be true instead.

I am interested to hear what you guys think about the backpack being tracked by dogs, from the spot it was left at, all the way up to the high school and back.

It was an elementary school I think, and it really freaked me out. I still don't know what to think, but maybe the guy walked it to that spot on the sidewalk from there? And if her clothing or any of her remains were in the backpack, that would have left a scent, right?

The idea of a vehicle with a truck bed made me think of something.

You know those do-it-yourself car washes? Do they have surveillance cameras?

This is a great idea, and I sure hope LE has thought to check any security cameras at any car/truck washes. Some car washes have special stalls that fit a truck better than a car.

I firmly think that the person transporting the bag(s) of remains must have kept them in either the back of a truck OR at a minimum in a trunk. I doubt they would just toss them in a backseat or floorboard because they would know there was a chance of leakage. Also, the smell would be too much even for the driver of the vehicle. It doesnt matter how tight you tie the bag, the smell is horrendous. I have had to get rid of dead animals around the farm in bags like that, and flies and smell is horrendous even with 2 or 3 bags tied up.

A work truck would definitely be a possibility too, as it would further keep seperation to the perp(s), and he may have felt more confortable using a work truck to drive around the remains.

I hope LE is pursuing looking at people that had acess to a work truck that may have been in the area. Especially if the person is relatively young, as some of us have suspected. When a young person has access to a work truck, they sometimes get real cocky with them and feel invvincible. I am sure some of us have heard stories of people joy riding around in work trucks they have access to. Usually, the immature type young person would do something like that. Maybe he felt invincible, and thought he could get away with this because he was always using the work vehicle. Lets hope LE is thinking along these lines.

Ted Bundy's last victim was a schoolgirl who happened to go back to her classroom to retrieve a purse, and was alone for just a few moments. He was waiting outside the school in his van.

Yes! And a passerby saw the entire abduction and thought it was a father trying to get control of his unruly child.

Interesting, thank you. I agree with your thoughts about a possible perp and asking about it.

I've been wondering if the place the backpack was has any significance to anyone around Jessica. This could be the significance, but not necessarily related to Jessica herself in anyway.

Could just be a clue. Could have just been the "I've already killed her" message. Could be more.

Or, it could be merely a coincidence that people look too much into. Today is my friend's birthday. She stopped by the grocery this morning to pick up a few things. Her total? $10.16. She posted her receipt on FB and mentioned the similarities. However, I'm pretty sure Publix had no idea it was her birthday and there's no conspiracy.

That's not substantiated either.

People apparently witnessed one of the scent dogs walking up to the nearby elementary school and back, but there's no confirmation whether they were tracking something or just seeking a scent.

Can anybody find that report? My pointer is to one of the articles that has been updated in place, and the old text isn't there any more :p

If it is just speculation, or if they were just walking a dog to go potty there, then it means nothing.

If a dog did track that way, then they would be searching for the crime scene in that area if the crime scene is not where she was found.

It doesn't seem the perp had her long before putting her where she was found, so it cannot be too far from her way to the school, unless it is inside a vehicle.

Graphic, just skip if you have a sensitive stomach:

I think my point was, and I didn't want to rush to say anything, and It is still complete speculation, but 4 major causes of death in these situations are: gunshots, stabbings, strangulation, and suffocation. Stabbings and gunshots are commonly in the torso or head(gun)/neck(knife). Strangulation=neck and suffocation=mouth/nose. This would lead me to believe that her head is missing, and I know a lot of us have already speculated about that, I just think this is more evidence to show that. I don't believe animals were the cause of the "not in-tact", and if they had been they would have gone for the middle and not a head. But that is one thing to take away from the statement about the autopsy.

I completely agree with your post. It's what I've been thinking as well. Maybe the coroner did the autopsy as much as they could, maybe dissected the lungs but couldn't rule on cause of death without the head /neck to compare the trachea. The ME might suspect strangulation or suffocation based on the lung evidence but to prove it he's need the head /neck. Maybe? Idk, speculating.

True, but I'm still thinking this is a young person, or someone that is mentally young. So, it could be something.

I still think the place where the backpack was found ties into something with Jessica, but don't know what. Not just the Easter Egg Hunt idea of over here, no over there, which was my initial thought. A subdivision is not exactly a place to drop it, unless there is a reason. Just out on the sidewalk along her path would be a place to just drop.

I just don't know any of the remains could have been in the backpack unless they did not tell the family? I think the interview with the family was after it was found and they were still hopeful she was alive.

Aww, we'll light our candle, too. We won't be going, it's too many people and I would hate to think I'm in there when a friend of hers couldn't get a place to sit, KWIM?

I was not aware of that. Interesting. Off to do some reading/research on the backpack discovery and re familiarize myself.

Now see, I thought I read this as well. Came very late to Jessica's threads, so now I'm wondering. Has this not been validated?

The thing with the dog was what made me wonder whether one of the kids had found it somewhere else and brought it back to the neighborhood with them, thinking it belonged to a friend or neighbor.

But that was just me wondering. Subsequent LE behavior makes me pretty sure that they're sure it was left exactly where it was found.

I don't think they told anybody what was in there. I think this was something the killer would have been proud of and they weren't about to let him know that they found anything.

There have been a few that I know of. I was just reading about April Tinsley this morning: http://crime.about.com/b/2009/04/06/april-tinsley-fbi-joins-cold-case-investigation.htm

I have been trying to keep up but I have a sick child and I'm beat. Anyway, I searched for news clips on youtube to see what the news in CO is saying and there is a clip of news 9 from Oct 11 and the only comment is from someone called TheSuperPsychoKiller that says news 9 is stupid (something like that).

I took a screen shot....don't know how to attach. I cant get the youtube link to copy. Ugh. The smartphone is only as smart as the user. :/

I would head to my laptop to upload but I am afraid to move bc my sick child has bionic hearing and I don't want to wake him. I have no idea when I can get back on again. I dont wanna be a Chicken Little either. I just wanted to share at least this much with y'all. If this has been discussed already then ignore me and sorry for being redundant. I am still on thread #9. I think?

I found it just by searching "Jessica Ridgeway 9 News"
It is 99% nothing--just some jerky jerk. But still, how odd.

I am headed back to my battle with nursery school germs. Wish me luck!

I can't find anything regarding dog tracking to or from anywhere. So for me, and not saying everyone else should view it the same, I will not bother to speculate on dogs and the backpack.

Ted Bundy's last victim was a schoolgirl who happened to go back to her classroom to retrieve a purse, and was alone for just a few moments. He was waiting outside the school in his van.

And, he was observed putting her in the stolen white van. The witness thought it was an angry father who'd been called to pick up his child.

Another witness observed the van driving erratically after she was taken. Bundy had her in the passenger floorboard and she was fighting him.

People saw but didn't know what they were seeing.

RIP Kimberly
