Depends on what "under the house" means.

If he buried them in the basement (dirt floor, I'd assume), there may not have been much smell.

Also, can any locals chime in? Sometimes during radon remediation, a flue stack is installed running from the basement up through the roof to lower/remove radon from the basement. Is radon found in that area?

Humans are usually not at all good at tracking scents. If the occupants noticed an odour, they may not have realised it was coming from their own house. Or they may have thought they had plumbing problems.

This is all speculation since LE hasn't even confirmed that Sigg said that, let alone released any such information.

Yes, definitely. We have that in our house. (eta: remediation, hopefully no longer we have radon in our house!)

This was just posted on the RIP Jessica FB page:

FOX31′s Justin Joseph reports from sources that human remains have been found at the suspect’s home

It sounds like it's Jessica's remains. Not another person. At least right now after reading the MSM reports.

Sad!

Did anyone take notice of the big pile of twigs and tree limbs in the back yard.

I thought maybe he was thinking of burning the remains.

Why wasn't he caught up with the DNA canvass? Did they cut off the canvass around his home? Did they not canvass the homes around the lake? It would seem that they would canvass around the lake and that this guy would have stood out somehow as being a but odd..

Of course we do not know if this is definitely true they didn't get him in the canvass but it sure seems like they only got him was bc he walked in...

Can they check minors?
~just asking...

Pretty contradictory reports on local 9news at 4 PM.

First they report he is a student who left Stanley HS (in Westminster), got his GED and was a student at Arapahoe Community College in the only program that has certified mortuary program in Colorado.

THEN they talk to two girls in Chelsea park who claim they went to Standley HS with him. They claim he was at their school up until two days ago (their counselors told them this today, supposedly) and describe him as "goth".

The first story matches the booking sheet from the arrest. Not sure how that second story by the HS girls fits in.

Could it mean that they went to HS with him, and this year were at college with him?

Nah they had him and he knew it. IMO

According to this article, he admitted that there were remains in a crawl space under the house.

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/10/...emains/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

We have feral cats around here... and we always know when one dies because we smell it so we find it to remove the smell.

A few weeks ago while doing plumbing in the crawl space... a few cat bodies were found and we had not smelled them at any point.

It is possible there are body parts in the crawl space that would not be smelled.
Especially if they are buried or in a container.

And if there were other remains under the house how do other occupants of the home not smell that?

Buried? Lime mixed in the top layer maybe?

This is making me think about the bloodhounds... when were they brought out? I guess I'll have to go look...

I don't think we should underestimate LE in this case. They allegedly had DNA from people in the area. I have a feeling this creep's goose was cooked and that is why he confessed to his mommy. Probably wanting mom to bail him out or help him escape. My heart goes out to her for doing the right thing. It must have been devestating. As a mom myself, I'd probably prefer he was dead than having to live with the recurring nightmares of what he did to a beautiful little girl.

How does a mom get over something like this?

They hadn't taken DNA from anyone under 18; it sounds like his father did not live in the area, so would not have been one of the men swabbed.

His mother must be devastated. Poor woman.

I'm about 200 posts behind, doing homework with MY Austin. Did AS tell LE where to find the rest of Jessica? (I hate even typing that.

Westminster PD posted this: "The nghbrhood around 10622 W. 102nd Ave will be closed to all but residents for the next couple of days" on their twitter

https://twitter.com/WestminsterPD

Is it common to take 2 days to process a crime scene or could this have something to do with a search for more possible victims (buried) there?

I guess time will tell, but I think the only remains they will find will be Jessica's. JMO
