You don't know what you will do until you are there. When my son was missing, I was in shock for the first few hours. Your mind tells you that this isn't real. But this I can assure you, I would move heaven and earth if it was within my power. Facing the camera? You bet. I would get on my knees and beg if it helped me find my son.

LE asked me to make some important but difficult phone calls, receive some uncomfortable calls, and make a personal plea for phone and other records to try to help them avoid the time it would take to get court orders. I did it willingly...grateful to be allowed to help. Thankfully, our son was located 3 days later and was relatively physically safe. But life has never been the same for our family. Ever.

Dealing with the aftermath of his disappearance eventually led me to Websleuths. It has been very therapeutic for me to be here...and to see the love and concern that the members here have for people they have never met.

I treasure every one of you.

Oh Shefner... thank you for sharing your story!

I am glad you were reunited with your son.... But the aftermath must be a rocky journey!

Blessings!

Searching in the water...does not give me any confidence that they believe Jessica to be alive and wearing different clothes.

Absolutely in agreement.

‘America’s Most Wanted,’ other organizations join search for Jessica Ridgeway

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says nearly 800,000 children are reported missing each year.

Only about 115 are victims of stranger kidnappings. But they say the first few hours and days are critical.

post snipped respectfully - BBMi

If those numbers are correct (and I'm not disagreeing) but that means only .0001
are stranger kidnappings. I don't know if that also means stranger abductions, but I would think so.

With those #s, that mean more than likely Jessica knows the person that has her....

I am not a mathmetician....so if I did that wrong, I'm sorry....

*** First post ever****My friend alerted me to this place after seeing my posts elsewhere about the case

I've been reading this thread all day. I live about a mile from where the backpack was found and spent my morning w/two of my children and a neighbor distributing fliers to local businesses.

The Sheriff substation is a block from my house (we have no local police force) and we saw helicopters take off and land, the horse trailers, and many LEs. I heard they were searching a near by pond as well as sending off unmanned drones and searching the open space with infrared. They are also still using bloodhounds, ATVs, and traveling on foot to search around here. I do not know what is going on down in Westminister but I have a close friend who lives about a mile away from her house.

The prayer vigil that is tomorrow night is organized by my church and I will be there.

:welcome: Eesti... :welcome4:

thank you for your post, thank you for your inside info, and thank you for working so hard towards finding Jessica! :seeya:

9News reporting Jessica's school may revise its notification policy.

I'm in CO. My son's school has a long contact form.

First they'd call me, cell & work.
If they didn't reach me they'd call dad, cell & work.
If they didn't reach him, they'd call stepmom.

Not blaming the school at all, but a longer contact list might be a good idea.

I also chose not to ever turn my cell off anytime my son wasn't with me.

I love it when officers are tireless....and work at night, doing what they can. How encouraging to the family! They are not letting the dark of night stop them from trying to find little Jessica. I pray for those searchers and officers...may they be blessed for their efforts.

Did any one else besides the mom actually see Jessica that morning?
Where was aunt and grandma?
Have any of them talked to LE?

I'd guess the biggest problem is that there's no evidence of anything, except the backpack. I keep hoping they're able to find DNA that will provide clues.

My assumption has been that they're searching open space for evidence and distributing flyers and focusing on the neighborhood in case she is still in the area and alive (I hate typing that) because they can't rule either out.

ETA: Hi Eesti! You know me from other internet boards, though by a different username. :)

Otto, I'm playing catch up....what are your feelings about this disappearance? Tia

The backpack sitting by itself ... the pink purse sitting my itself ... both seemingly staged, both happened on a Friday ... 800 miles and a couple of months between the two cases ... I don't know what to think, but one of my first thoughts is that one person could be moving around, stalking, and abducting young girls. I don't think that this will have a good ending. Basically, I'm looking for similarities (and there are several), as it seems unusual that two perps would suddenly be actively abducting young girls, but perhaps it's possible.

What about you?

Thanks, Beth. It just seem contradictory to the impression they're leaving (as least to me). I get the feeling that there is evidence, or at least a belief, that she may be still alive. It seems to me that their time would be better served looking for "clues", rather than bodies. I know they need to cover every angle, but......

Searchers are instructed to look for anything that might be a clue in addition to a body. Many searches turn up incredible levels of stuff that people have thrown away and it rarely has anything to do with the person the searchers are looking for.

They do, however, need to look for her body. Imagine what would happen if LE did not conduct searches of open areas and in three months, her body was found in one of those areas.

LE has to work every likely angle from the beginning in these cases.

I have done some research since the start of this incident and have drawn together my own opinion or suspicions. While searching for some RSO's in the area I found one that matches the description of a POI in a few attempted abductions in the Arvada area. The article about the POI describes his MO to target younger females in neighborhoods and around community centers. The article is here http://apexprd.org/arvada-police-release-composite-sketch-child-abduction-attempts. If you look at the picture provided in his RSO registry and his booking picture from his 2008 arrest you can see that the sketch bares are very close resemblance. Here is the 2008 arrest report, just search for Douglas C. http://www.coloradoicac.com/arrests/2008.html. Those of you who are thinking that the backpack might have been a false flag, his residential address is almost in the exact opposite direction of the pack. He is at 10351 W 101st Ave Westminster, CO 80021.

Again this is just my take on my research that I have gathered, and wanted to collaborate with you all on this information. I also apologize if any of the information posted is not allowed here because of any reason.

Thanks Otto! I'm wondering some of the things you are. Is there a perp who is seeking out little girls in this age group? Little girls who are out and about alone ...even for a short amount of time? I'm scared too that this will not have a good ending. I pray for Jessica's return. :please: :moo:

The agents were exploring if the girl might have taken shelter in a parked car during the cold weekend, if she snuck into a house or garage or if someone might be hiding her, homeowners told Hernandez.

Residents said the agents were also asking, "Did you hear anything out of the ordinary-- any noises or slamming doors? Or have you seen anything out of the ordinary?" Hernandez recounted.

Neighbor Kerry Viney said the investigators also asked if he'd noticed suspicious vehicles or any workers who had recently come into the neighborhood.
