I think he's a cyclist. Some of these roads (Leyden, 80th, Indiana, which eventually hooks to McCaslin) all are used by cyclists going from Golden to Boulder. When Arvada annexed Leyden Road from Indiana to Quaker, they were ecstatic. http://cyclistshaverights.org/corridor.html

Re Rock Creek- in Boulder Couny- the murder there was the Rochester case. A mother killed her 6 mo son because she thought he was autistic. Not guilty
by reason of insanity- mom was a mental health worker . Lots of press- 2010 I think. The backpack was left across the street and about 3 houses down from where she lived at the time.

If it was left three houses down then it is probably a coincidence. If the perp wanted to make a point, imo, he would have left it in the exact front or back of the house, not three down.

I've been thinking, and remembering back to my own youth.

When I was Jessica's age, I was hugely in love with an older relative, who I'll call Joe. Joe was in his upper 20's and taught math at a school not far from where most of the family lived. He was tall (at least by our family's standards :) ), dark, and good-looking. I used to daydream that one day he'd declare his love and take my hand and kiss it tenderly, and then we'd get married and then he'd kiss me on the mouth and we'd have a baby.

I would have done anything for him and he knew it. Joe was and still is a really good guy. All he ever did was take me for pop and candy a time or two, and probably laugh at me a little behind my back. But if he had said something like, (this is just an example) "Hey, you haven't had any fun for a while, why don't you play hooky Friday and we'll drive up to the mountains and have a picnic. Bring your pajamas and stuff because we might stay overnight at that place on the lake. Don't tell your mom. We don't want her to worry," not only would I have gone, I would not have thought there was anything wrong because he was a relative and he was older and he was a teacher so of course it would be all right.

I'm not sure even lying to my mother would have struck me as wrong, depending on how much time I had to think about it.

I'm not saying this happened to Jessica. I'm just pointing out that kids that age, of both sexes, can be extremely vulnerable and they don't think like adults do. There could be all kinds of reasons why she would willingly go with somebody, reasons we as adults might never think of. Especially if somebody had been grooming her.

no problems, but I use adblock add-on with firefox. I don't see any ads so maybe that's the key

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think it's wrong to take anyone's name from any registry (even a RSO) and put it out there on this (or any) site. Yes, I know they are people who are in the system as a S.O. and yes I know that means they have to be looked at, as they should, by the authorities.

People love to imagine they are a detective in the case and theorize and speculate, but I think it's dangerous and unfair and crosses a line to post names or provide links to people that are imagined as being involved. If you have a real lead, then give it to the CO police and don't post about it. Otherwise, let the authorities do their job; they will be following every lead, checking out every S.O. in the area, and are able to do so professionally and discreetly.

Just grabbing your post so I could bring forward what our moderator Bessie said when she addressed this last night. (on thread # 7).

Sex Offenders

It is illegal to use the sex offender registry information to harass anyone. We would never condone that at Websleuths. However, it is okay if, when a child goes missing or is harmed, we look at the sex offenders in the area and post their information, along with maps to show how close they live to the victim. Never even hint at harassing anyone on the sex offenders list. Any posting here about a sex offender should always be within the law.

Just FYI for anyone that wasn't aware that the rules had been changed in the not too distant past.

On my MacPro with Safari and having mega-issues. lol

I think it is the Motley Fool ads at the top. They blocked me from doing anything other than clicking on their links...

Same here. Every time I've had issues on this site this morning...the MF ad is showing under the title bar..and nothing else.

I grew up on a large farm in a rural town in the mountains of Appalachia, but I cannot tell you where any pipes are except for a couple on my family's farm. Maybe I'm projecting my own lack of culvert pipe awareness onto everyone else, but I just don't think it's something most people really think about.

You can see the depression in this photo. I work in an industry where stormwater runoff has to be controlled. I also live in a rural area where culverts are important for road purposes. You're right though, awareness is relevant to importance, lol.

Of course people's perceptions are different. I didn't mean to say everybody should have noticed, only that people who grew up or live in this kind of terrain are more likely to be aware of drainage.

The mountains of Appalachia are different than the open spaces of the west. In the eastern mountains, the roads tend to run beside the water, because that's where the paths through the mountains are. That will be true in the western mountains, too.

But out in the foothills and prairies, the roads often cut across country and across streams and drainages. Most of the ravines like the one where they found Jessica only have running water right after thunderstorms or in the spring when the snow is melting; when the road crosses it, there will be a culvert or perhaps a bridge so the water doesn't run across the road.

Because the roads are wide open and relatively straight, with very few trees, you can see the ridges and ravines from quite a distance ahead. Far enough ahead that if you're looking for one, you have time to slow down and make sure nobody's around without attracting attention. If somebody's near, you just move on to the next one.

Also, is Rock Creek in Boulder County?

Yes, Rock Creek flows through Superior, which is in Boulder County. I believe the "headwaters" are also in Boulder County.

This RSO pretty creepily matches the Arvada sketches and lives near the area where the police moved in on. :what:

He matches the sketch, but not the description
"The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-feet-9, thin, with sandy or brown hair and in his late teens to late 30s. The second victim described the suspect as not having facial hair, but the first victim described him as having a thin beard and mustache, police said."

Rules Etiquette & Information - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Just FYI for anyone that wasn't aware that the rules had been changed in the not too distant past.

Okay, so along those lines... does anyone know if the person who mentioned a green truck at Pattridge Park near where Jessica was found, mentioned anything in particular about that truck? Whether it was older or newer, etc? My googling isn't turning up anything specific about the truck... :(

I found an RSO with prior sexual assault of child who owns a green truck. He also lives only about 2 miles from where Jessica was found...

Oh, and pic attached is a different RSO whose face, to me, seems to be a perfect match with the "candyman" lurer.

Probably. I don't have a clue what point, if any, the perp might be making by choosing the Rock Creek area.
