You can see the depression in this photo. I work in an industry where stormwater runoff has to be controlled. I also live in a rural area where culverts are important for road purposes. You're right though, awareness is relevant to importance, lol.

Comment on photo and I am assuming that this is picture of 'the crime scene culvert'. I have seen some posts wondering how he got the bag and himself thru the fence, but from this picture, it appears he did not go to the other side of the fence. The culvert is on the road side.

Am I behind and those posts were prior to the info released that the body was found in the culvert. tia

I think it was towards the end of the last thread that it was mentioned that in order to do a dental ID, the victim had to have been treated/x-rayed by a dentist. This is not necessarily true. Part of dental analysis often includes analysis comparing an x-ray of the victim's skull with a photographic image of the patient alive and showing teeth--often done while smiling. (It was done for a different reason, but I'm sure many of us remember the Casey Anthony trial and how the prosecution did a video which superimposed--perfectly--an image of Caylee's skull over a photographic image of her smiling. So like that, but to match up the teeth.)

Teeth – Forensic dentists can use teeth for identification or in some cases a single tooth can be used. If no dental Xray is available, digital photographs can be taken of the teeth to compare to a smile in a photograph during the victim’s lifetime

Also, in that same vein (vain?) :waitasec: , they can compare an x-ray of the skull to a full frontal picture of the alive victim's face.

Skull – Computer graphics are used to perform a facial reconstruction to estimate the dead person’s appearance. Like other bones, scientists can determine a person’s sex and race from skull features. The difference is , with the aid of these graphics, they can also discover much about the soft tissue in the ears and nose and how much fat the person had on his or her face.

And as someone pointed out, Jessica's fingerprints could be found all over her own home, they only needed to find the ones that are plentiful in the home and that don't match the other people who live there.

I'm sorry to ask again but, not sure I got a response. Did LE find anything when they searched the other area ?Standley? Someone may have answered but I've been havin trouble getting on the site this morning. TIA
IF they found anything there or at other sites they have been known to search, they are not releasing any information about it.

So I keep looking at the map. I don't know why, really... I just keep looking at the roads wondering how what got to where. How it happened, I guess. I feel really upset about this, and maybe I should declare a moratorium on reading the news or this site for a couple of days because it's 2am and I'm still reading. I guess it hits close to home because I have a daughter the same age.

Anyhow, so I keep looking at these maps, at Jessica's route to school. It occurred to me, and maybe someone already mentioned this on an earlier thread, but I still haven't finished reading them all, but look at the area where she was walking. These are not roads that go anywhere... they're just those serpentine neighborhood type roads that you get lost in because everything looks the same and you have to drive slowly because of all of the curves and not knowing whether a child or dog or whatnot will just run right out in front of you. In my neighborhood they actually have speedbumps in many of these sorts of roads.

So because her route, from house to park and then park to school, was entirely in these sorts of suburban, stay in the neighborhood sorts of roads, it just seems to me that the person who did this either lives there, or was there on a job. Or had been there on a job before. I just don't see how it could be different and make any sense. What would lead someone to just happen to be driving around in there at that time of morning for it to be a crime of opportunity from outside that neighborhood?

I'll try to attach a map of the walking route.

The second thing that I noticed is that everything makes a big circle... the area of Jessica's house/the park, to where she was found, to the area where her backpack was found. Again, I think it was someone within that immediate area, or someone who worked in that area.

I labeled the map: her house is A, the park is B, the intersection where MSM suggests she was last seen is C, the school is D, approx. area of backpack is E and approx. area where Jessica was found is F.

Now that I've written all of this, I am not even sure if it's helpful at all. Argh :(

I hope we wake up tomorrow (today) to find someone has been arrested.

I think it is likely to be someone who lives in Jessica's neighbourhood and that LE already had his name but don't know it. He has probably been part of the canvass and answered the questions without arousing any suspicion or some such thing.

However, I think there is a smaller chance that the perp has been cruising the neighbourhood over a period of time, getting familiar with it and looking for that right combination of a child happening to be on the street when no one was around. Jessica may only have been out of sight of anyone else for 30 seconds or so.

I'm thinking of offenders like Ted Bundy, who put literally hundreds of thousands of miles on his cars just cruising, checking out possible sites to find victims, looking for that combination of a victim and no one else around. Bundy was an expert at spotting those tiny windows of opportunity and acting without hesitation when they occurred.

I think you are right with the circle thing. I think it is significant but I am unsure as to what that significance is.

The server must be having problems, I have been in a slight state of panic all morning because I all I am getting is the title bar, nothing else!

Hi Reannan! That's all I've been getting too, just the title bar. I've been so upset since I saw the news conference this morning. :(

I just have a weird feeling that this perp is older than most of you suggest... possibly in his early 60's. Lots of time on his hands, but still has to "check in" in the evenings most of the time. Not a RSO. Not saying he hasn't offended before... he just hasn't been caught, which has allowed him to work up his courage to actually murder this time.

Okay, so along those lines... does anyone know if the person who mentioned a green truck at Pattridge Park near where Jessica was found, mentioned anything in particular about that truck? Whether it was older or newer, etc? My googling isn't turning up anything specific about the truck... :(

I found an RSO with prior sexual assault of child who owns a green truck. He also lives only about 2 miles from where Jessica was found...

Oh, and pic attached is a different RSO whose face, to me, seems to be a perfect match with the "candyman" lurer.

I was just looking at him!!

Startlingly similar to me

Probably. I don't have a clue what point, if any, the perp might be making by choosing the Rock Creek area.

Maybe it was on his way home? Body found furthest from his home, and he drives back with the souvenir. He was going to put it near the abduction site but his plans got interrupted. He was forced to choose a different location. One that is closer to his home, or the home of someone he knows. That way, if he was seen in that area, he had a reasonable excuse to be there.

Sorry I have no more info. on the green truck but I recall looking at this pic. and comparing it a few threads ago where someone had posted it. It is the closest match I have seen to the sketch. Look at the lips! Look at the natural facial hair line, it looks like he may not be able to grow facial hair below the lip area or very high on the cheek bones. Could be a match, he just had a bit longer hair and had not shaved for a few days.

Jessica's body was found by workers picking up trash along the highway. I suspect they were using the green garbage truck parked just west of where the body was found. It was still there at sunrise this morning.

Hi guys, just popping in. Anything new?

Doesn't seem to be. Just kicking around ideas about the terrain where the body was found, and about possible RSO matches.

The RSO in Denver we looked at last night, owns a carpet sales and installation company. The reporter gave a location of 4th & Santa Fe, his address was the closest match. I have no idea if this is the right guy, but I have to believe they are looking at him for a reason. Maybe he had some jobs in the area when Jessica disappeared.

He did not show up on vinelink last night, I'll go check this morning.

A barbed-wire fence isn't much of an obstacle if you're used to them. They're meant to keep cattle in, not to keep people out. It's pretty easy to go between the wires, or under the lowest wire.

Yup....just place your hand on the top wire between the barbs and push down---step over if you're tall enough.

Place your hand on top wire between barbs and pull up and slide through.

Or crawl under lowest wire. Easily done. Those bw fences look pretty slack too. JMHO.

it's a little after 7 am here--morning carbuff! :seeya:

Just an FYI that may help some people if WS is loading slowly or if you're trying to catch up on a thread quickly... I just go to the 'Archive' version (which is text-only) and read through the posts there. You can't post from there or thank a post, but it's a good way to bring yourself up-to-date quickly. I do this all the time when I get home from work and have to catch up on hundreds of posts. It's especially helpful when there's been a break in the case and there have been many pages of posts since I last read the thread. It can be a little confusing because when a post is 'quoted' you can't tell that from the text-only version, but it really does cut down on loading time and moving from page to page to read a lot of posts.

Just click on Archive on the lower right of the screen, find the forum you want. Newer threads would be near the end (last page) of the forum.

Do you know if that outhouse is normally there, or was that brought in for the search crews?

Quick question, anyone know the proper twitter feeds to follow? Thanks in advance. :)

I wonder are there still searches or are we to presume what was found is all there is. I hate saying that but I am curious since what was found initially could not be confirmed at the start that it was her.

-----------
Hi, HLN said the head and hands are still missing. That sounds gross but if it were my child I would pray they'd keep searching. This is so sad. :please:
