If he lived in Denver why did his car have Texas plates? Did he move from there recently, new car purchase, car rental?

In the article it says it was a rental car.

“Marsters was traveling through Grand Junction on February 11 and in Montrose on February 12,” officials said. “His last known locations were in Montrose on February 12 and 13 and at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park on the morning of February 13 at approximately 7:20 am.”

So little information has been released about Jordan and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Based on the timing in the above news articles it seems that he stayed over for the night in Montrose (is that photo of him checking into a hotel?) and then went to the park the morning of the 13th. Who saw him at the park at 7:20 am? I presume he was traveling alone.
The Visitors Center doesn't open until 9am in the winter.

Is Jordan an outdoors person? Does he hike or do photography? Why was he at the park?
The park service press release says that he was last seen wearing a green hoodie and a tan jacket. Was that appropriate wear for spending time in the park?
In Montrose at 7:20am on Feb 13 it was about 10F ....and it warmed up above freezing by about 11 am. I presume it was a couple of degrees cooler up by the canyon rim in the park.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park gets few visitors in winter. Most of the roads and trails are closed or barely accessible until springtime. Like others, I'm puzzled by the lack of details about him being seen at the park. Black Canyon current conditions Condition of one of the open trails: Packed snow, ice and mud. Surface uneven. Use caution on slippery rocks near cliff edges. Traction devices recommended.

I’m not sure if that’s a photo of him at a hotel. Under the photo states the following:

He was last accounted for at 7:20 in the morning on the 13th at the national park.

There are two separate sides to this park – the North Rim and the South Rim. On the north side, the road is completely closed for winter, and on the south side, the road is closed just past the visitor’s center, meaning most of the park, for cars at least, is not open.
I was in Montrose and Black Canyon last summer, HUGE emphasis on “separate”.

Even if the north rim or the area near it outside the park was accessible, I highly doubt he could have made it there by 7:20am if he was in Montrose that morning. Unless by “morning” they mean 4am or something.

The south rim is only 15-20min from Montrose but the north rim is super remote, it’s a couple hours drive even with good road conditions.

The canyon rim is like 2500 feet higher in elevation than Montrose, inversions do happen so it’s not the case 100% of the time but usually it would be quite a bit colder there.

[Jordan Marsters, 31, was reportedly last seen on Feb. 13 in the national park in Montrose County. On Tuesday, the National Park Service said it believes crews found Marsters’ remains.
...

The service said the remains are believed to be Marsters, although due to the complexity of the location, there are still efforts to recover the remains. The national park is currently reaching out to nearby parks with extreme technical skill sets to help with the recovery.]

Because the remains were found in such technical terrain, park authorities are asking adjacent parks for help with the recovery, officials said. Once recovered, the medical examiner’s office will lead the effort to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
