Kevin's "Help Find" page confirms his remains were found.

Where is Kelsey??

My heart skipped a beat hearing the breaking news about the hiker named Kevin being found so I cannot even imagine what both families are going through right now. Especially with the planned Vigil tonight for Kelsey.

Prayers for both families and their friends.

I wish I was close enough to go to the Vigil tonight.

"The vigil will be held at Memorial Park in Woodland Park at 6 p.m. Thursday evening. City officials have asked those attending to gather at the park's flagpole."

So her family is quite religious but okay that her brother is gay? Or am I misreading some of these news reports and posts?

This is relevant, because if they're not as buttoned up as some people have suggested, then Kelsey may not have been "acting" with the whole fiance thing. A few posts have suggested that having a fiance may have been a front to appease the families. If her brother is gay and her family is fine with that, it doesn't follow that they would care that much whether she was getting married to her daughter's father or not. Of course, people are not always logical (I had a relative who was fine with homosexuality but not with mixed-race relationships!).

It could be PF's family that has a problem with it? Maybe they expect him to get married now that he has a child.

No, cell phones do not ping towers from the air. Both towers and cell phones are searching for signals at ground level. The technology for in-flight cell phone use became available in 2004 (link below). The technology accesses the plane's own satellite direct system. Altitude, air speed, and flying over vast areas of no coverage are issues in not being able to ping towers. There have been satellite direct phones available since the 1990s for extreme travellers, mountain climbers, maritime users... the costs continue to be very high. Google more info on "satellite phones" or "Iridium phones".

American Airlines and Qualcomm Complete Test Flight to Evaluate In-Cabin Mobile Phone Use | Qualcomm

Thanks Sandy. I was just googling about sat phones. As a pilot, it's possible Kelsey has a sat phone and I'm wondering if the texts were sent that way.

One thing her mother said in the interview was interesting- "She works long shifts, she commutes, um all the way to Pueblo, which means more people must have seen her". Does this suggest she went to Pueblo the day she went missing? Thanksgiving was a Thursday. Did she have to work on Friday?

Is there a map anywhere on the internet showing the location where the phone was located? I am sure the police have checked out if there were any UPS, USPS or Fedex vehicles in the area. If this was a diversion, there would probably be no return address and probably not deliverable and sitting in a post office, fedex or UPS office and the police may have contacted all of these offices to see if there was any undeliverable mail. This might be risky since these offices may open undeliverable mail. But I would like to know if this ping location in Idaho is available publicly, other than around Gooding Idaho.
This is a link to the zoomed in satellite view of the only cell tower in Gooding ID. Zoom out to get context in relationship to the town and Interstate 84, etc. There are other cell towers along I-84 in towns named Wendell, Tuttle, and Bliss. Because law enforcement specifically said Gooding, ID I tend to think this one tower would be the one the phone was connected to rather than the ones on I-84 - but I could be wrong and law enforcement is just giving a general location.

No- that is not what I am talking about. I have sent text messages and even email with a normal cellular connection from commercial planes. Its not great but it works sometimes. For example sometimes you hit send and it doesn't send for an hour or so until it gets a tower in range. Ask some frequent business travelers.

Totally Agree that it is possible to get cell phone reception from a moving airplane if plane is low enough and within a tower's reach. I have followed quite a few plane disaster cases here on WS and we commonly talk about that and how sometimes when a plane is going down people on the plane are able to get through to loved ones directly from their phone in their own plane seat.

In fact on 9/11 I believe some of the passengers were conversing with loved ones before the one went down in Pennsylvania. If I am not mistaken about that.

ETA - Here is one article that confirms its possible to get cell phone reception from a plane sometimes.

"Despite the urgings of flight crews to turn off all phones or put them in airplane mode, cell phones can continue to work after a plane takes off, but only while in range of a cellular tower."

How and when cell phones work on an airplane

I agree with many of the posters suggesting that many details fit a typical patten and we may eventually find the answer that matches that typical pattern.

However, because this case has so many interesting nuances and things that make us scratch our heads regarding timing and information, I keep wondering if maybe there is another obvious pattern that we may be missing because the information to the public is so limited right now.

So, just thinking out loud... We know that KB moved to CO two years ago and had a job she spent a lot of time at working and commuting.

Outside of her family and co-workers, who else does she have in her circle of trust? Friends from church? Friends with a similar interest or hobby? Friends from town? Friends from other states? Friends from online circles?

Church seems like the most likely visible friends (to others), but what would be some invisible friends (to her family and PF) that she may trust that may not have an obvious physical or digital trail to their relationship / friendship?

Any other ideas on ways she may have spent her time or people she may have spent time with that would seamlessly blend in to her life but could be a possible missing link to the way she vanished?

On another note, I hope WP has good weather for the vigil tonight. Last night we had some howling winds! Brrrrrrr!

moo!
I know I have seen a photo of her with a helmet on. Don't know if it was a cycling or climbing helmet but I am inclined to think cycling. It might be in one of the Daily Mail stories as they usually have a lot of photos. If she was involved in cycling she may have joined a group/club rather than cycling alone.

Religious groups, even under the umbrella of a denomination or general belief system, can have so many variations and nuances from group to group that in today’s world it’s hard to draw many hard conclusions from it alone. I do think, as you stated, that it probably had less to do with it since it doesn’t seem to come to much into focus in any practical way so far in the investigation other than her mom stating that she loves God. Which I just took to mean her mom was saying she’s a good person that wouldn’t run off without good reason

Kelsey's remains will eventually be found. She likely had a $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 life insurance policy from her employer with her daughter as her beneficiary. The insurance payout is significantly faster if the death can be verified.

If KB's phone was mailed or shipped to Idaho, I doubt it travelled by truck. USPS ships in the cargo of commercial airliners and freight planes, and FedEx has their own planes.

If someone else had possession of KB's phone, posters have explained upthread about prescheduling texts. Thursday 22nd was Thanksgiving, so no shipping. Someone could fully charge the battery, schedule the texts for Sunday 25th. On Friday the 23rd simply ship the phone to Idaho from Colorado Springs with guaranteed delivery overnight or 2-day. The phone battery should last 48 hours if it is just left on and not doing anything - Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th.

Then the phone battery dies by Monday 26th in the package with a likely undeliverable Idaho address. It's in a warehouse somewhere, or even returned to sender, which may or may not be a real address in Colorado. Someone could effectively ship it to themself and who would know.

I don't think she had to work on Friday; I will look for a link to confirm that.
Another thing that strikes me as odd is that on her weekend off, she would allow PF to watch their child, when he's been watching her Mon-Wed, and this is her chance to spend time with K.

Kevin Rudnicki went missing in August around there

O/T - Indeed, Kevin's body was found yesterday morning. I'm in a rush so no time to post the link to his thread, but confirmed deceased, so sad.

Still holding out hope for Kelsey. It's ok to be positive too!

I don't believe KB was in any way acting about the engagement. Asking mom about a recipe and then baking cinnamon buns are reflections of someone who values hearth and home.

That said, I think she hid any relationship problems from her mother so she wouldn't worry. Kelsey lived far away from her family support system and an hour away from her workplace support system. Victims of domestic violence often hide it because they hold the false hope that if they shower their abuser with "love" then the abuse will stop.

LE cleared Mollie's boyfriend and brothers within the first week of her missing. I'm still waiting for it to happen in this case. JMO

Thanks!

To me it seems kind of obvious that someone went on a roadtrip in the couple days after Nov 22nd to get rid of a body/evidence as well as create a diversion to another location hundreds of miles away.

No one was yet aware that Kelsey was missing, other than the fiance. It's a holiday weekend. Suddenly KB's phone turns on and pings in Idaho. And lo and behold 2 texts are sent (only 2). Fiance & work. This was a manufactured alibi. Kelsey wasn't alive in Idaho. Her 2 cars were still at her house.
OR- could someone have sent the phone via mail, UPS, Fed Ex to someone, with pre-programmed texts to be sent, as a diversion as to where she really is, alive or not?
