The grocery store is right up the road. No bodies of water to pass for the closes 3 grocery stores and no dangerous roads or anything like that.

So there is a king soopers on 136th and another one on 120th and Colorado Blvd.

They were last seen leaving their home in the 4050 block of 130th Way in a gray 2008 Toyota Highlander with Colorado plates 231-REZ, TPD said.

Very glad they were found! I have many questions, though. I'm sure we all do. I hope that they are safe as well as the poor 5 year old that was left at the home. Were they trying to flee the country? I just have so many questions. If they were trying to cross the border, could this be related to some kind of drug activity? MOO

– A family that was missing has been found in California, at the Mexican border. Police started investigating after the family did not return home on Monday, leaving behind their 5-year-old child.

The family was found safe and unharmed, police said Friday night.
It’s still not clear why they left without their 5-year-old child. Thornton police said they could face abandonment charges — and charges related to the illegal marijuana grow.

The investigation is on-going.

When police entered their home on a search warrant, they found an illegal marijuana grow inside, Denver Post reported. Police said they are investigating whether the illegal grow played any role in their disappearance.

It’s not clear how the marijuana was illegal or why and police have not elaborated on what they found. In Colorado, marijuana can be purchased at a dispensary or you can have six plants per adult for personal use. You can read more about Colorado’s home grow laws here.

The site specifically notes that this is what Colorado residents can have in their homes: “Up to six plants are allowed per Colorado resident over age 21, with as many as three plants flowering at one time. Beginning January 1, 2018, all residences will be limited to a maximum of 12 plants unless certain requirements are met. Be sure to check your local laws for specific details. Don’t forget that counties and municipalities can pass stricter laws. For example, Denver limits a home grow to 12 plants, even if there are three or more adults over age 21 in the residence. The laws are different for medical marijuana users.”

Plants must also be kept in an enclosed, locked area that can’t be viewed openly and the plants can’t be outside. If any residents are under 21, the plants must be enclosed and locked in a space that minors can’t access, and “extra precautions must be taken to make sure any visiting youth don’t have access to marijuana plants.”
Home grown products also can’t be sold to anyone.

Colorado police have not specified what about the home grow was illegal or why.

~A Thornton couple that was reported missing and later located at the U.S.-Mexico border with their young child has been charged with child abuse and drug charges, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

~Prosecutors announced Thursday that Liu Mei Li and Zaiqiao Feng are both charged with two counts of child abuse and two marijuana-related drug offenses.

~According to an arrest affidavit, Li and Feng flew to San Francisco on March 30 and drove to Mexico City in a rental car. Police said their two-year-old daughter was with them.

~They were contacted by the U.S. Border Patrol on April 3 while re-entering the U.S. at the California border, the affidavit says.

~They were taken into custody and held in the San Di c.f.ego area, according to the Thornton Police Department (TPD). They were arrested by TPD Wednesday and advised of the charges against them in court Thursday morning.

~Relatives of the couple reported to police that they found the family's 7-year-old daughter alone in the front yard of the home at 4056 E. 130th Way at 9:30 p.m. on the night of March 30.

~Police said the relatives did not report the family missing until 24 hours after they found the 7-year-old alone.

~The young daughter told police that her parents left and said they were going to the grocery store, but never came home.

~The older child is currently with a family member, according to TPD. The arrest affidavit says the two-year-old was taken into custody by California Child Protective Services after it was found that she required monthly blood transfusions and had missed her last transfusion.

~During their investigation into the family's whereabouts, officers discovered an illegal marijuana grow, TPD said.

~176 live plants were found and seized, according to an arrest affidavit.

Couple charged with child abuse, drug charges after child found alone at Thornton home

THORNTON, Colo. — A Thornton man and woman accused of fleeing the country and leaving their 7-year-old daughter at home — where authorities found a large marijuana grow operation — have been charged with child abuse, officials announced Thursday.


Zaiqiao Feng and Liu Mei Li were also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cultivation of marijuana.

The couple and their 2-year-old daughter went missing on March 30. Police said the family's relatives found their older daughter in the home's front yard by herself. The girl told police that her family were going to the grocery store that morning, but they never returned.

Investigators learned that the couple and their younger daughter flew from Denver to San Francisco, where they rented a car and drove to Mexico City, roughly a 40-hour drive, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

On April 3, the couple was detained while trying to re-enter the U.S. at the California-Mexico border with their younger daughter, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.


While the couple was missing, the North Metro Task Force executed a search warrant at their home, located in the 4000 block of E. 130th Way and found the grow operation.

The basement had multiple rooms with indoor grow lights, air filtration systems and duct work. Officers found 176 marijuana plants, the affidavit said.

Feng and Li were advised of their charges Thursday morning and their bond was set at $50,000.
