CO - Mass shooting at King Soopers, 10 fatalities including 1 LEO, Boulder, 22 Mar 2021 *arrest*

Just getting this off my chest.

First, All of my sympathy and empathy goes to the families, loved ones and friends of those who were gunned down. Also to the citizens of Boulder and the surrounding communities in Colorado who have to bear this nightmare.

IMO, I don't care if this cretin was/is mentally ill.
I don't care if he was depressed, suppressed, oppressed or impressed. I don't care where he came from. There is absolutely no reason or excuse to gun down innocent human beings. Yet, it is being discussed non stop. I can hope that the media will not attempt to glorify him, as they did with the Boston Bombing killer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and plaster his face on the cover of Time. That loser, DT placed a bomb right next to an 8 year old boy...on purpose. But Time went ahead and printed the copy, along with a huge article with some sad, sorry excuses for him. That disgusts me to this day. There is no excuse for mass murder, no matter how much one tries.

Praying for swift, full and complete justice for all those affected
There is no excuse for real Americans to gun down innocent human beings either. Timothy McVeigh and many more who were not immigrants.

The common denominator in most mass shooters is they are disconnected and live in their own head/mind. They have nothing to lose...they had nothing or no one to connect to in the first place. Moo serial killers are predators. But mass shooters are not predators.

They walk through a populated environments basically hunting movement.

Las Vegas guy was shooting at.. basically dots from his hotel room. So yes movement. But it is quick. No actual one target or torture involved. They do not repeat the scenario.

I honestly hadn't thought of it this way, but it makes sense, and I find it useful (not sure how, but I do). Thanks.

MOO Las Vegas a little different, he stalked several concert type venues, then set up for an ambush of the concert crowd to rain bullets on "auto by bump stock," them as well as shoot in a more targeted way. He also set up booby traps for the door. Huge preparations.
The school shooter type walks through an environment with an AR 15 type rifle on semi auto and personally shoots as many of the surprised or trapped victims as they can find.

Something I remembered today. I shop at a King Soopers that is in the area between Arvada and Boulder and my local King Soopers has had security at the front of both entrances for the last year or so.

If this was something that was happening at all the stores around this area could be the reason he chose the store he chose. Just something to think about and take into consideration.
Interesting detail. Thanks for pointing that out. I am curious why he chose that particular supermarket when there are others around that are essentially the same. Security might be what made this store different?

Which means he scoped out his plan. Making sure that he chose a place with no security.

Doesn't seem "random". More like a planned and premeditated attack.

He was shot through the leg. Most likely the reason he was in a wheelchair.
MOO.

Yes it does. Be was dressed for the attack, had the weapon and ammo.
Maybe he spent tine looking for a grocery with unguarded entrance.

The King Soopers near 64th and Indiana was probably the nearest grocery store to the shooter’s home. The Safeway and King Soopers near 64th and Ward were also close.

Cannot imagine the folks in LE that have to go through the in store video. And the jurors that will have to view the horror. Yet, when it goes to trial they will need to do a timeline and follow his actions I would think... not avoidable MOO.

I still am amazed that the perp only had one shot to his body, and that was to his leg vs. torso mass which I thought was standard *if* he still had his gun on him when LE had him in their target. MOO

During the initial/ongoing live feed, I was thinking send in a drone to see where he is! And then to learn Eric Talley, deceased LE, was going for training of a drone operator.

I’m thinking the shot was tactical as he likely still had the vest on- a groin/thigh shot would be pretty incapacitating while not killing him? Moo

We can rule out the motive of suicide-by-cop.

I think it would all depend on what type of vest it was. If it was a plate carrier vest and LE knew it was, I could see them taking a shot like that. If it was just a run of the mill tactical vest, chances are it was just s wound caused during the shootout

Officer Eric Talley's Mortgage To Be Paid Off By 'Tunnels To Towers' Foundation A foundation formed in honor of a New York firefighter who died on Sept. 11, 2001, is helping the family of a fallen police officer in Boulder. Tunnel to Towers announced it will pay off the mortgage of Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley. Officer Talley was killed responding to the grocery store shooting on Monday. The Tunnel to Towers Fallen First Responder Home Program pays off the mortgages for the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty and leave behind young children.

I have friends and family that are in LE and have shared this information. I have never heard of such before, and they were thankful for this information for the future as none had heard of. They now know in case of, in the future, that this happens to a coworker with children.

So much grief happens, anger happens, denial that it is happening to you if in LE family. What a great organization and focus on the monies they gather. My heart goes out to Talley's 7 children - especially in these days of social media. May his family, and all of the victims, be surrounded with support to vent to, and console, and listen, and wrap their arms around them.

Appreciate this information sharing.

I think it’s our nature as humans to want to understand something horrific like this, to try to make sense of what could possibly drive one to do something that feels so out of the realm of possibility for ourselves to even think of doing.

And this:
Mass shootings are so traumatizing, and part of why they're traumatizing is they rupture in a terrorizing way the safety of daily life. And we want there to be a coherent answer.”

So interesting! I'm a number cruncher too - love looking at data.

Do you see any correlation between age and type of mass murder? Or is it evenly spread?

They are pretty evenly spread, but the youngest of the perps used guns.

Age range of suspect (shooting incidents): 14 - 64
Age range of suspect (non-shooting incidents): 26 - 55
