This conversation has been quiet for awhile but I hope it revives, especially as Mommy Fearest approaches trial. This child deserves justice.

Thank you for posting! She absolutely deserves justice! I just recently listened to the Sword and Scale podcast about Olivia and her Mom.

Yes, Munchausen by Proxy parents don't usually set out to kill their children, they do it for attention and nowdays seems like for monetary gains (presents, make a wish, internet funding websites, etc). Sometimes children do die from medical procedures or medical abuse they are subjected to. This particular case seems to be different, as mother wanted to stop all medical care.

I agree -- I'm not sure that this one is Munchausen by Proxy -- I just think this woman wanted money. JMO.
MBP is possible, but I'm not convinced yet.

"A Colorado mother who abused her seven-year-old daughter to death and lied about the girl having a terminal illness to get handouts from charities worth at least $100,000 was sentenced to 16 years in prison as part of a plea deal that threw out murder charges.

Judge Patricia Herron issued the sentence Wednesday after Kelly Turner, 44, pleaded guilty last month to child abuse resulting in the 2017 death of her daughter, Olivia Gant, and to charitable fraud and theft.

Previous charges of first-degree murder, attempt to influence a public servant and forgery were dropped as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

The amount of the theft from charity was between between $100,000 and $1 million, according to prosecutors.

Turner said nothing during her virtual sentencing hearing but wiped away tears as prosecutors played a video made by Olivia's grandfather Lonnie Gautreau of Olivia laughing and smiling, baking a cake, dancing in a princess costume, playing doctor with her dolls and singing songs."
