FORT COLLINS COLORADOAN - A woman reported her windshield shattered while she was driving on Interstate 25 in Fort Collins on Sunday marking, the third reported shattered window on the interstate in Larimer County in four days, according to emergency radio reports.
The windshield shattered on southbound I-25 near mile marker 271, just north of the Mulberry Street exit. The woman reportedly said she believed the windshield was shot out.
The woman is not meeting with Colorado State Patrol until later this evening, according to the emergency radio. If troopers believe the incident is related with the three unsolved shootings of people, two fatal, in Northern Colorado that occurred over the summer, they will relay the information and evidence to the task force investigating the two fatal shootings, said task force spokesman David Moore.

Wow. Cant believe they are still happening. And still cant believe the non-caring attitude of LE about it. The public should ban together and demand some answers. Maybe FOIA could be used to get some info. or some editorial columns in newspapers. or get a main newspaper to run another special on the random window shootings to generate interest.

There has to be some solid answer to this and if LE cannot figure it out then maybe they need to put more resources on it. Like surely by now they have thought of setting up surveillance cameras at key points along the highway or something along those lines.

All I know is this response below should not be acceptable to the public:

"Authorities say that today's and yesterday's window shatterings are not thought to be related to prior shootings or window shatterings. "

ok...so does that mean nothing is going to be done about them. And some poor soul is going to get glass in their eye or have their eye put out or worse.

i found a listing of accidents on I 25 in Colorado. I've only glanced at the first two pages. I was thinking we might find information on other shattered windows. After taking just a quick look I am left wondering if any of the accidents could have been caused by a vehicle being shot or window shattered.

Sigh. I do not understand the last sentence (BBM). The task force needs to be on scene & meeting with the woman as soon as they hear about it and conducting their own investigation, just in case, not waiting for the troopers to relay information. This is ridiculous and infuriating to me. The task force needs to be onsite and processing the vehicle immediately, before any evidence is compromised. THEY are the ones supposedly handling this investigation, and supposedly the ones that would be knowledgeable about all the past details and circumstances surrounding this situation. This is so frustrating. I can not believe what I'm reading. It's almost like all this stuff is a joke. Could they purposely be trying to downplay their involvement?

'If troopers believe...". The "Task Force" has nothing to lose by investigating this. I don't get it! I want to keep hoping that there is more going on behind the scenes, then I read garbage like this. JMO

Thanks for posting that, Cathy! I've put a marker up on the map. The location is very close to Thursday's shattering, within a mile or two, depending on how you read the locations descriptions. The Thursday shattering was "near Hwy. 14" (which is also called Mulberry). The Sunday shattering was "just north of the Mulberry exit". The Sunday shattering was "near mile marker 271, just north of the Mulberry Street exit" (the Mulberry exit itself is at mile marker 269). Two attacks this close together in time and location might signal a change in the shooter's thinking. The previous window shatterings are spread pretty evenly along I-25. Might the shooter be getting more cocky? More hasty? Here's a screen shot of the area around the recent shatterings from the case map. (The screen shot only shows the northern half of the case area and only about a third of the overall window shatterings). Sunday's shattering has a square yellow marker. Friday's has a yellow diamond. Thursday's is a yellow circle.



I noticed that it was Katie de la Rosa of the Coloradoan and who broke the story of the most recent shattering, as she had the Thursday shattering. Here again, it seems, she picked up on it from scanner traffic - or we may never have heard of it. I'm becoming a fan. What I find unbelievable, with respect, is the idea that a serial shooter would use live ammo for 2 (perhaps 3) incidents, and then, after not being caught, deescalate. Would a terrorist, or a serial shooter, prospective serial killer, choose to do this? If the theory is that a shooter who has gone undetected and uncaught would decide to start to prefer shattering windows (say, using frangible ammo), is there any precedent for this? Does it make sense with all of the knowledge we have about serial shooters and serial killers? Does it make sense from a terrorist perspective?

I don't really see how it does. Perhaps LE are telling us the truth. Perhaps the total lack of evidence to suggest a shooter in all of the window shattering incidents means that there is not a shooter. Perhaps the fact that there are so many incidents at off-ramps and access roads has something to do with the fact that there is a greater chance of road debris hitting a window at those sites. Perhaps this has nothing to do with ISIS, or Islamic terrorism, or far-right terrorism (which is the greater risk, mind you).

I'm responding here not because I have anything to add, but to express my admiration for your attempt to delve into this stuff. I've tried similar quests, on occasion, into public records and always found them wonderfully tantalizing and hugely frustrating. I spent hours, once, sniffing thru Larimer's sites trying to understand how they worked, and to find references to the Donna Sharp dented door frame incident. Larimer County Sheriff's Office takes a remarkably public friendly approach to their data collection efforts, but I still never found what I was looking for. I concluded that Donna's report of her incident to Larimer hadn't been recorded on the Larimer SO's Incident Blotter because the actual response was made by officers from Steamboat Springs. There's always deviltry in the detail in getting information out and into use.

It was a super short summary of De la Rosa's earlier story. Nothing new. They used the imagery of the UPS truck from the Friday incident for want of anything on Sunday's incident.

Returning your respect, I would argue that the involvement of a serial shooter or shooters has already been established and that he or they have clearly deescalated, at least for now. LE has linked the Romero and Jacoby shootings and, separately, linked the Connole shooting and the attempted shooting of another, unnamed man. Those shootings happened months ago. So if you see a link with the window shatterings, you have to grant that there has been a deescalation to shooting out windows. Or, if you don't see a link to the window shatterings, you have to grant that there has been a deescalation to no shootings at all. It may not make sense to you, but it seems to be a fact.

Umm, wouldn't the fact that we have not heard of anymore PEOPLE being shot, or killed indicate deescalation? Do we really need LE to tell us that, or can we reach a fairly obvious conclusion for ourselves?
As for the shattered windows, if we are to believe there is not shooter involved then what are we left with? Weird, mutant, side flying, window seeking road debris? IF that was the cause, taking the highly traveled road into consideration,wouldn't we be seeing many more broken windows?
