Denver police on Tuesday found two suitcases full of human remains alongside a trail in a southwest Denver neighborhood — adding another grisly event to a week of high-profile crimes in the Mile High City.

Denver public works employees plowing the sidewalks of the Sanderson Gulch Trail in the 1700 block of South Java Way reported the suitcases as suspicious about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Denver police Lt. Matt Clark said at a Wednesday news conference.

Police responded to the street in the Mar Lee neighborhood and found human remains inside the suitcases, which were left on the side of the road near the trail.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner on Wednesday identified the remains as those of an adult white male, though the medical examiner has not yet determined the exact identity of the remains nor how the man died. The man died recently, Clark said, though he could not give a more specific estimate. Clark declined to give more details about the state of the remains.

Why would someone go to the trouble of putting a man in a suitcase and then just leaving it somewhere so easily found! I suppose applying any logic is silly in my part!

I watched the Netflix documentary “Don’t F... with Cats” recently. It’s the story of the murderer Luka Magnotta. And for some weird reason the first thing I thought about was that case.

I would be on edge living near where the body was found. Watching this one.

Wow. Not even a remote spot. In between 2 major thoroughfares dotted with businesses. Maybe someone is sending a message?

I'll watch this one, too!
Two suitcases full of human remains -- was the person who left the suitcases walking along the trail with IMO a heavy load, or was the person driving and just dumped them there? Any significance to the dump site?
Freakin' odd...

My guess is so they could carry it outside of a house, or some other building, and not look suspicious, or caught on cam, but that's just a guess.

Article is on Fox News app and links to knewz.com today but couldn’t get a direct link to copy and upload.

Snips:
Workers ploughing snow adjacent to homes in Denver got the shock of their lives when they discovered two suitcases filled with dismembered body parts, The Sun reports.

Public works employees were the ones who happened upon the grisly evidence of a horrific crime.

The dismembered body parts within the suitcases, Lt. Matt Clark of the major crime division in the Denver police said, belonged to an adult white male.

This was the conclusion of the medical examination of the human remains.

I had to stop myself from gagging when I read full of human remains. How could someone bear their own disgusting actions?

Investigators are gathering surveillance footage from nearby homes and interviewing residents in the area.

The investigation is ongoing and no information is known about potential suspects in the case. Police would not comment on the state of the body.

"It's a potential that this press briefing might spark that call that we're waiting for," Clark said.

Crews plowing snow initially spotted the bags and called in investigators, who marked off the scene at South Java Way near Sanderson Gulch to investigate.

“One of the detectives had told me, ‘Yes, there are body parts in there,'” said a neighbor who awoke to find police across the street.

Denver police say the remains are of a recently deceased white man. The medical examiner was working Thursday to identify him and determine how he died.

Denver parks and recreation employees reported two suspicious-looking travel bags while ploughing snow near the Sanderson Gulch Trail in the Mar Lee neighbourhood at around 7.15am on Tuesday.

"At this point, I don't have anybody to connect directly to this incident", he said.

"We are working to recover footage that was captured by private residential security cameras."

Anyone with information about any of the crimes is being asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or report anonymously online at metrodenvercrimestoppers.com.
Man’s remains found cut up in two suitcases in Denver

Homeowners in the 1700 block of South Java Way are helping produce a timeline to pinpoint when suitcases, stuffed with human remains, were dumped on a sidewalk along the Sanderson Gulch.

The remains were stuffed into two suitcases, according to police. Detectives said more tips have been phoned in since news of the grisly find was reported on Wednesday allowing detectives to follow up on leads Thursday.

“That’s right in our backyard,” said a stunned neighbor named Brandon. “It’s pretty quiet around here. Something you wouldn’t expect to see.”

One neighbor told FOX31 on Thursday that she first spotted the luggage shortly after 8 p.m. Monday although she hadn’t seen anything in the area just a few hours earlier around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Another neighbor said the suitcases first appeared around 6 p.m. Monday. Homeowners in the area, part of a neighborhood watch, also have security cameras.

Given how quickly the remains were found I would hope there is still a lot of footage on cameras. Horrendous crime and a truly ridiculous place to leave the bags, hopefully meaning it can be solved...

Investigation underway after man's remains found in suitcases near trail in Denver

Denver7 received messages from people who live nearby about the discovery of the suitcases and had been asking police for more information. The Denver Police Department’s Major Crimes Division Lt. Matt Clark further discussed the case at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

(Video embedded in story)

The department confirmed that officers were called to the 1700 block of S. Java Way Tuesday morning on reports of suspicious bags beside the road and found the human remains inside.
......
One neighbor, who spoke with Denver7 on the condition they remain anonymous, said she had asked an officer who came to her door whether the victim was male or female.

“He mentioned it’s pretty hard to tell when the body parts are wrapped, but the foot looks the same whether it is a male or female, so basically he couldn’t tell me,” the woman said.
.......
Police have so far not identified any missing persons cases in Denver that could be linked to the man’s remains, but Clark said the investigation was still in its early phase and would be expanding in coming days. He said the afternoon news conference would hopefully bring more leads in the case.

How would they know this person doesn’t match any local missing persons? Dna match or just appearance?

How do they know it is one person? Maybe these parts belong to various people.
Maybe they were from medical procedures and should have been disposed of legally. That's just me not wanting to think there is another one out there chopping people up. MOO

Very good questions, seems to me.

Or it could be a newcomer, or one who lives alone -- not married, no girl- or boyfriend, a widower, divorced, retired w/no mate, etc., etc. And of course he could be someone who was living 1,000 miles away... What a mystery -- so far as we know, that is...

I wonder if his face is too decomposed to photograph and post it -- if so, seems to me a good face artist/anthropologist, etc., should be able to render something that could be shown to the public. "Do you know this man?" kind of thing. Just thinking...

<shudder> <chills>...

Ookie and scary thoughts, @Marg from Oz. People in the area are probably locking things up tight 24 hrs/day.

But your question can't be ignored, IMO. I'm sure the Medical Examiner is busy, busy, busy proving/disproving that, requesting DNA checks, and who knoze what else.

Well they did say recent death. I’m betting they have a good look at face. Betting too they don’t want to alert until they can’t identify a possible suspect. MOO

They said "body parts". I wonder if it is a whole body or maybe bits are missing like the head and hands for instance,

Or organs...creeping myself out......at the benevolent I'd say medical procedures wherein "remains" weren't disposed of properly
