GUILTY CO - Richard & Mayumi Heene charged in Balloon Boy Hoax, Fort Collins, 2009 - #2

  • #181
Oh, I thought they just bought the story about the planning from Robert Thomas. I must have heard that wrong.

Keep digging....I'll be back tomorrow!

I could be wrong ATWC from what I'm hearing now it was an employee from a Denver newspaper who was talking about planning a hoax. I'm trying to get the facts straight, so bare with me.

sounds like "Don't say it" to me. Good catch.

I have no idea how she heard that but I hear something a little like it too.

Not just you. Wouldn't load for me on firefox at all.

Works fine on FF for me.

Heene attorney tells sheriff to "put up or shut up."

Wow, Richard Heene's attorney is getting a bit aggressive, isn't he? I doubt that will sit real well with the public.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_balloon_boy

"Clearly, from all indications, Mr. Heene has somewhat of a temper," Alderden said.

Lane said Alderden should "put up or shut up" about domestic violence.

If prosecutors "can prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, that's one thing. If they can't prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, that's another," Lane told The Associated Press.

Looks like another graduate of JB's law class.

Does it strike anyone funny that Wolf always say the kid's name twice "Falcon Falcon"? Just me. Alrighty then. :)

Also, the dad says, "Did you hear us calling your name at any time?" The kids nods yes with an "uh-huh" (yes.) The dad says, "You did?" and then does the mom say, "You didn't? " or does she say, "You did?" I cant tell. And is she nodding her head?

He's probably thinking, everytime he says it, "who names their kid after an animal"

The more I read about emails discussing a balloon hoax etc and all the loose ends that are out there - that they had pitched a reality show for TLC, the acting-wannabe thing, the incorrect balloon dimensions, the wrong info given about call times to media, FAA, and 911, thew ork with that 25 yr old dude about hoaxing - (all these bits that look really bad,) make me think that Richard seriously thought that this would go off without a hitch and no one would delve into these things. And frankly, their "acting" was pretty dang pathetic b/c they didn't seem believable to me at all. Easy to say now, but really - they are BAD actors.

.

If it wasn't for Falcon's statement I believe that it would have. :cow:

OMG!!!!! I speak alienish.....should I put that on my resume????

If you speak Antonese add that to the 'ol resume too!

I never get this. We see a lot of defense attorneys acting like that and I just don't see what good it does. It angers me and I'm sure it angers LE and the DA. It's like baiting them to come out with guns blazing. Stupid move. And I'm sick of attorneys telling me that what I saw and heard did not happen. These types really insult our intelligence and create more anger towards their clients.

Er...someone named Wolf's parents, perhaps? ;-)

Naturally the attorney doesn't think his client should be charged with child abuse. Teaching your kids to lie isn't abuse? :waitasec:

  • #192
I know no one asked but I wanted to give my prediction: They won't spend time incarcerated and their kids won't be taken away.
If the maximum they could be sentenced to is 6 years, they wouldn't likely spend much time in jail, if they did get convicted of the maximum, because it's such a short sentence - people don't usually get the maximum and most people don't serve the maximum. Also, Colorado is currently purging the system of non-violent offenders so I'm sure they aren't interested in adding two more.
Also, they'll probably strike a deal anyhow, for, at the most, house arrest. More likely restitution and community service.
As far as CPS is concerned, sadly, they have far greater problems in their over-taxed systems than three kids being neglected, emotionally abused and raised to be sociopaths. And because the child welfare system is the way it is, I don't necessarily think removing them from their parents and into foster care would be great for the kids anyhow. It's an out of the frying pan into the fire kind of thing.
But, if that option is not on the table, there is will be no way to get these parents to toe the line. I do hope CPS gets involved in a significant way because I believe three little lives are being destroyed by such neglectful, emotionally abusive parents. I just wish we had a better system for abused kids and these are abused kids, IMO. More money, more social workers with smaller case loads and better training, and more and better foster parents. Because, these people have no business trying to be parents and if their kids were put into the system, there would be a small chance for the parents to change.
Finally, I was really hoping that Heene would do the right thing and own up to what he did, instead of saying he will plead not guilty, before any charges were issued. They are totally damaging their kids and the only way to mitigate the damage is for them to say, "Mommy and Daddy made a huge, bad mistake. It was the wrong thing to do and it was very wrong for us to involve you. LE is not a prop to be misused. They are our friends, there to protect us and we misused them. Also, it's very bad to cry wolf. If we have an emergency in the future, we might not get a response because now no one can trust us and that's dangerous. And finally, it was wrong for us to lie, to pretend to be concerned about you and to ask you to lie. We want you to grow up to be good men, not liars. We also want you to know that our love and concern for you is real, not an act. We want you to feel safe with us. Mommy and Daddy are very, very sorry. We are going to take responsibility and try to make up for what we did wrong. Please forgive us."
If they don't do that, there is really no way they can fix the psychological damage they have caused.
And I believe, although the mother is somewhat passive and has followed her husband's lead, that she is just as culpable. It was her voice on the 911 call crying and practically hyperventilating in fear over her son. I thought it sounded believable.
It was also her who you can see coaching Falcon in the aha CNN interview and then saying, "Noooo" when he spilled the beans, sending the message, on camera, that he was wrong in what he was saying. She is just as sick, IMO.

BINGO! What gall this cat has! They abused these kids in so many ways with this stunt. I actually think that having the parents arrested in front of their kids may save these kids from an empty future of crime and sociopathy. The parents are teaching them that what is wrong is right. It's gross. I guess it's up to society to teach them the right way. An arrest may be the first step in doing that.

This is getting weirder and weirder. For those who cant (or don't like to) click links, here's an excerpt of the meat of the article or the part that was new to me. The nosy gawker in me (who is also worried about those kids) but yes, the nosy nose in me, wishes he would discuss the specifics. This part below is about Robert Thomas, "the collaborator" and Linda Lee, the collaborator's attorney, and Lee Christian, Mayumi Heene's atty.

" Robert Thomas, a collaborator who worked with Richard Heene on the idea, provided an e-mail to the Web site Gawker.com outlining his plan for the show. The sheriff's department questioned Thomas on Sunday night after he revealed that Heene was planning a media stunt to promote the show, according to the researcher's lawyer, Linda Lee.

Thomas' notes include Heene discussing a hoax - which Thomas opposed - that involved a hot air balloon, Lee said.

'Pretty much he wanted to recreate this Roswell effect making it seem like there's a UFO,' Lee said.

'Heene believes the world is going to end in 2012,' she said. 'Because of that, he wanted to make money quickly, become rich enough to build a bunker or something underground, where he can be safe from the sun exploding.'

Lee said her client worked with Heene from March until May.

Thomas told investigators what he observed about the couple and 'intimate details about their home life,' Lee said. 'He noticed things that were definitely not right. ... Some of the things are kind of shocking that Mr. Heene did, but we're not going to discuss specifics,' Lee said.

Lee said investigators told her Thomas does not face charges, but she is seeking immunity for him before he turns over documents and e-mails with Heene, "just to be safe."

Thomas has said he had no idea that a possible hoax would involve the Heene children.

Mayumi Heene retained her own lawyer, signaling the family is gearing up for a legal fight. The lawyer, Lee Christian, declined to comment on whether the couple still maintains they thought their son was in the balloon.

'I think if Mr. Heene had it in his mind to do something, I just don't think she would have enough strength to stand up against him,' Lee said.

It's also possible that Heene could face federal charges because he called the Federal Aviation Administration to report his son missing in the balloon.

Those charges could include lying to the federal government, a count similar to the one that sent Martha Stewart to prison in her stock-fraud case.

On the Heenes' front door Monday hung a paper sign that said, "civil liberties don't leave home without them." On the doorstep, some people left a box for letters of support, with an American flag on top. "

Snipped by me.

He wants to build a bunker for when the sun explodes!!!

I hope he's packed a lot of stuff that will grow in 100 degree below temperatures!!

There is a big difference in legal Civil Liberties and illegal Civil Liberties. You can't yell fire in a crowded movie house but you can yell movie in a crowded firehouse!

I'm a huge proponent of Civil Liberties but it seems obvious to me that arresting them for this is not a violation of their Civil Liberties.

Not sure that this has been brought up but can you imagine what these little guys will endure in the next few months, possibly years?? They will/ are labeled as the sons of some really kooky parents....WOULD YOU WANT YOUR KID hanging out at this house???? How sad is that?

I'm just thinking (and God forbid), what if some day a REAL emergency situation arises with this family. After this fiasco, who would believe them? :waitasec: :(

I have not heard one peep about family members from either the mom or dad's side.....kinda odd. Makes me wonder if their lifestyle and behavior has alienated anyone close to them. (no pun intended) Has anyone heard anything? Maybe they really are from another planet? Just sayin.....

Video interview of Richard Heene's brother, Falcon's uncle. He doesn't seem to know Richard well. Says hasn't seen him in 10 years. So, I guess that would mean he's never even met any of his 3 nephews? Very Strange
