Found Deceased CO - Sebastian Castro Rivas, 3, Eagle, 5 June 2020

@KayElJay please let us know how the search went today.

Will do, I work overnights so it may be first thing tomorrow morning. I took a ton of pictures to give those unfamiliar with the area an idea of what it’s like. However, in the event of a negative outcome I may decide not to post them out of respect for Sebastian and his family.

Our search grid ran adjacent to the river for the most part (which is running VERY high) but was about .5 miles above the river for the most part as professional S&R teams are dealing with the fast moving water. It was a very positive search but unfruitful unfortunately. It’s been many years since I’ve seen the river so high

Heartbreaking :(
His poor mother must be so distressed, how awful they found some of his clothing in the river. Just from photos he looks very well cared for and loved, his parents asking people not to shout or scare him and talking about his likes and dislikes shows even further how dedicated they are to finding him safe. Every parents worst nightmare, please let him be found safe.

An estimated 500-600 volunteers and first responders have spent countless hours searching for Sebastian Rodriguez Castro since he disappeared Friday night near the Eagle Villas Apartments in Eagle, Colorado. Search efforts have included ground searches, helicopters, multiple UAV (drone) teams, trained search and rescue dog teams, water rescue teams, FBI operations, and a 24-hour tip line for leads on Sebastian’s location. Search efforts have thus far been unsuccessful.

Late yesterday, an article of clothing that was positively identified as Sebastian’s was located in the Eagle River. As a result, the search area was expanded to include additional downstream areas. The phone he was carrying when he went missing was found today in the river below the apartment complex. Despite exhaustive efforts by both first responders and volunteers, we have been unable to find any other additional clues.

Land-based searches have been extensive, both in town and all surrounding areas. As a result, beginning tomorrow, we will be consolidating search efforts to focus on the river. Vail Mountain Rescue will continue to conduct water searches, and air operations will continue, but land-based searches will be suspended unless additional information becomes available.

an article of clothing... and his phone? he had a phone playing outside - so were they able to ping it to see the route he traveled? or is it too early?

So he entered the river there. But there was nobody with him? No older children or a parent around. A three year old near a body of water like that is not good news, I hope they find him soon.

Some years ago a young teen went missing on a guided camping/horse trip way out West. He had simply walked away from camp. Searchers spent days looking and calling for him. (not a websleuths case). I looked him up online, and at his family's social media and made a call to LE. I identified myself and explained that although my agency wasn't involved in the search I was pretty certain from what I'd seen online that he was autistic. They said, "the parents never said anything about that - who would send an autistic teen unsupervised into the wilderness with a bunch of strangers?" Exactly. The parents admitted he was autistic and they had NOT informed the tour group when they signed him up. That totally changed the search. Searchers didn't call out for him, as he would then likely hide. They realized he'd left because he was simply overwhelmed. He was found safe by a water source very close to camp within a few hours. He'd been hiding when he heard searchers nearby. Look everywhere for this young boy - he may very well not respond to someone shouting for him that's not his parent.

A three year old with a phone disappeared off a playground at 9 PM - am I reading this right?
I had to go back as I was confused as well. I thought he went missing from his home, now I'm reading he was outside of the house, at a playground with a cell phone? Please tell me we're missing something? IMO

The Eagle Police Department is conducting a search for Sebastian Castro, age 3, who was last seen at his apartment at Eagle Villas. Eagle Police has learned that there was a young boy with a similar description of Sebastian on the playground at the Eagle Villas, 405 Nogal Rd, Eagle, CO around 9:00pm last night, June 5, 2020. Sebastan has brown hair and eyes, and was wearing and red and red shoes, with ripped blue jeans. He is autistic and non-verbal, and not comfortable with adults he does not know. The family is asking that anyone helping to look for please do not scream, yell or shout his name. He responds well to kid’s songs and animal noises, loves colorful things, water and insects. He is a heavy sleeper and like to sleep in tight small spaces.

Search volunteers are asked to check in at the Eagle Villas office for accountability purposes and so searchers can be organized and efforts are not duplicated. We also ask that volunteers avoid searching along the river due to steep banks, high water and a significant amount of brush and debris. Vail Mountain Rescue has boats floating the river, and drones have been deployed to search the river area safely.

The Eagle Police Department has been searching since last night, with the assistance of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Mountain Rescue, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle River Fire Protection District, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, FBI, the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the National Institute of Missing and Exploited Children, US Secret Service and Vail Public Safety Communications Center. Anyone with information that may help with locating Sebastian is asked to call (970) 445-4911 or email [email protected].

I read the Sheriff's release to mean he was last seen by his family in the apartment and reported missing. LE then received a tip/sighting of a boy matching his description on a playground shortly after. I think that means he slipped out of his house holding the phone and went down to a playground - where he was last seen by a witness.

I agree it was phrased weirdly though. They should have said the playground sighting was a witness and NOT his family.
