As per affidavit, I wonder what CW "walked downstairs for a moment" for? If it was for a glass of water, there were washrooms upstairs to get water from. If his claim is true, what did he go downstairs for?

Personally I wouldn't get water from the washroom, I'd go downstairs to get cold water from the fridge that was filtered.

He'll have to be truly hardened, even more than I think he is already, to get up there in front of his family and basically the whole world to give out that story and then undergo cross examination. Are there any particular rules in CO regarding televising criminal trials?

I will be SHOCKED if Chris Watts takes the stand!

Walmart would be out of popcorn before the cross examination begins. :)

My apologies - I took that wrong and I very much appreciate the clarity.
It's an emotional case.

Yes, it is an emotional case. And that explains much of the hurt feelings. miscommunications, I believe.

To clarify my position, I feel protective/defensive of SW and her babies.

She is being publicly accused of slaughtering her two babies, just because her cheating husband asked for a separation. If he is lying about this, then he is killing her for a second time, but more publicly and more viciously.

So in my mind, it is unfair to accept his claims without some real evidence to support them. And so far, I haven't seen any reason to believe his fantasy scenario.

I passionately argue against it because I feel that SW is the true victim, and he is cruelly attacking her memory, and I find it offensive and insulting. JMO

I quit following long ago after JVDS ran south after murdering a Peruvian gal. I haven't heard of any revelations re her body, though.
Oh ok, I thought your post meant there was some news on Natalee Holloway.

Thanks for that. It's appreciated. Let me make clear that I'm not offended by your need or any others' need for more facts.

That's perfectly fair and reasonable!!

Her body has never been found.

The original post said...
No one can force him to tell the truth, but the prosecution can, and likely will, call him as a witness. Hopefully he does the right thing.

My question @gitana1, you said you don't think they will call him at all.

But in my understanding, they cannot call him at all?

Since you said you don't think they will call him, what circumstance would they call him and be able to put him on the stand? As you must think there must be an alternative?

Good question I was confused on that one too. The prosecution can't force a defendant if he's not willing to take the stand.

We weren’t discussing the defendant, this was in reference to the father being called by the prosecution.

I wonder if LE got access to the airport cameras when CW went to pick up his father. CW demeanor on those clips may be very telling.
Very good point. Also would like to hear the discussion between him and his father later at the Police D. Did he already have a PD at that point?

It's certainly possible. I don't necessarily think they would be piled high though, if SW or the two girls were on the floor. I've never owned that particular kind of truck, so I may not have a good grasp on how much room there is in the back seat.
I owned one like that, the "3rd" door (instead of a full door), AFAIK the F250 & F350 interiors are the same. It was older than CW but the backseat was very roomy, seat a bit shallow but plenty wide from door to too. Put it this way, 3 grown men can ride back there with more elbow room than a car.

No, sorry, I was referring to a board where there was a minority opinion and lots and lots of poster bashing. But not here.

In actually don't think they will call him at all.

I was trying to multi quote and I cannot figure out how to do it so I did this...
Will vs can?

I haven't seen anyone here on WS accusing SW of slaughtering her two babies. I don't follow any of this on SM so maybe it's going on there, but I haven't seen that here.
(jmo, moo, imo)

Agreed, but I would have a bottle by my bed.

Ummm...Isnt CW accusing her of doing that?

And so people that are saying that he might be telling the truth, aren't they then accusing SW of strangling the babies?

This is a discussion board. We are all discussing, very passionately, a very serious situation.

So of course, it might not be 'fun' to be arguing the minority opinion at this time. That's what happens when we go against the grain. People are vocal and feelings get hurt. I may have missed it, but haven't seen anyone actually ridiculed. Questioned, pressured, and maybe put on the spot. But ridiculed? I am not sure I agree.

I have no idea how or why one's opinion needs to be "argued" when the discussion is about a crime and the possibility of guilt or innocence of CW. Opinions often change based on more relevant information being released. We don't even know the cause of death for any of the victims. SW may have suffered a heart attack for all I know. JMO

If she suffered a heart attack, why would her husband need to bury her and pretend she ran off?

The prosecution usually has to prove the defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt on all charges.

So the defense doesn't have to say anything.

But but but but but but................

With CW's scenario; Nobody will believe it off bat.

So he will probably have to take the stand and explain himself. Because expert testimony on his side can only offer so much if the defendant is not willing to get up there and show or tell some type of renactment of that nights events that will corroborate his defense expert statements jmo

And I truly doubt he will want to get up there and do that in front of his dad, family and friends. Jmo.

It will be hard to present a defense without taking the stand but it can be done.

He made statements in the interrogation which the prosecution is absolutely going to present to the jury. So the defense won't have to put him on the stand to say his story of what happened. It will already be there for them.

Then they will likely put on witnesses from his family to talk about how horrible and abusive SW was to him. That's my gut.

After that, they can put on an expert like the did in the casey anthony case to discuss how "everyone processes grief differently."

I feel the odds are good we won't get another jury who thinks doing things like partying wildly and getting tattoos and burying, smiling, lying and concealing, are "expressions of grief".

But that's how they can present a defense without Watts saying a word.
