I have never heard anything to that effect. That sounds like a typical Internet rumor.
That was discussed here yesterday. It was the wrong Watts.

He was absolutely not mandated to give an interview, but under the circumstances, it would have struck many people as odd, had he not given one.

We’ve seen countless tearful pleas from the families of missing people over the years, and I think that most people have come to expect that.

I was recently either listening to a podcast or watching a program, and when John Walsh or was it Tim from equusearch ( sorry, very bad memory here) , his suggestion was to get a strong media-savvy family member to be the person to the media, and it did not have to be the immediate family.

Not about this case, but there are plenty of women I will never believe including Jodi Arias and Casey Anthony

You're right, there are evidence based exceptions. Still waiting on an evidence based exception here.

Nothing we don't already know, dang it.

Autopsies in the Watts Murders Contain 'Critical Evidence,' So Prosecutors Want Them Kept Secret

Citing the “critical” nature of the the information contained within them, Colorado prosecutors moved this week to withhold the autopsies conducted in the triple homicide of Shan’ann Watts and her two young daughters, PEOPLE confirms.

The slayings, allegedly at the hands of Chris Watts, Shan’ann’s husband of nearly six years, attracted almost instant national attention — but the precise nature of the killings has remain unconfirmed.

I have never heard anything to that effect. That sounds like a nasty Internet rumor.

In the beginning, an article was posted that listed a bunch of crimes that SW supposedly did. However, the birthday was wrong, as well as the spelling of the name. Different person. So this was debunked awhile ago.

I think the main reason he discussed it, is that it took the focus off of the important questions. He didn’t have to lie about the shirt, so he was happy to talk about it.

Agree. My next question would be how could you ever smile again knowing you'd dumped your babies in oil tanks and buried your wife and unborn son in dirt.

  • #347
Yes, he looked good, but I would say he would have preferred if trained dogs weren't running through the house and barking as he tried to keep his lies straight!

Yes, the timing could not have been better. The dogs went in right as the media started.

And he seemed to be so happy about that shirt... seemed to bring a true smile to his face while answering questions about his babies and wife buried in oil and dirt.

Curious to know where that shirt really did come from.

If it was Juan Martinez, he would research that and know, and not tell anybody ....and bring it up in trial as a bombshell If it was purchased by somebody else.

ETA. :juanettes:

ETA #2 to clarify how this is on point and is related to this case, amd not off topic.. for those that are new here and did not follow other trials. I'm saying it would be great if this prosecutor had something similar, that is a bombshell, like his shirt.

"It was an analogy to another case we followed, the Jodi Arias case. The prosecutor found out information, about gas cans, but he never told anybody that he had found the information. Not until trial! No one on his team even knew! It was the most strategic thing many of us had ever seen in a case we followed. We even had a smiley for him and that was my :juanettes: reference. I was just thinking that perhaps the prosecutor in this case could do something like that with his shirt finding out it wasn't really purchased by her but by somebody else if you know what I mean.".. and he sat in front of the media and said it was purchased by her, when it was really purchased by somebody else and that's why he was smiling at that time and preening

In reference to the "she" error. The defense would not have done this error on purpose would they have?

I wouldn't think so, but I have no clue really.

The only thing i can think of in regards to this is something had to be mentally wrong with him. I dont say this looking for a excuse for his actions but only because my 9 year old little girl means the world to me. I hate to even see her upset or cry and i could never imagine any parent in their right mind could do something like this to their child. There are alot of people i dislike a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 ton, that i wouldn't even piss on them if they were on fire....but your CHILDREN. There is nothing he can say or do to ever explain this

I understand that, but I too am mindful of the families distress and my working theory is not something I would express in public as it doesn't put SW in a very favourable light.
The thing is, you are choosing to ignore all of the positive and loving comments Shanann’s family and friends had to say about her. You are choosing to ignore their deeply felt personal pain and grief over her loss. They shed real, heart wrenching tears during their interviews talking about her. I’m talking about NU, the Thayer’s, the babysitter, Jeremy Lindstrom, and the additional group of friends from Colorado whose lives Shanann touched so profoundly they travelled to North Carolina to attend her funeral. Her father and brother, too. They all wrote about their love for her on their FB Pages. They all spoke so highly of Shanann. How caring and kind she was. How she was always there for them. Not a one of them believes that there’s the slightest possibility that Shanann murdered anyone. They’re all doing everything they can to help the prosecution, and none of them have visited C.W. in jail. They were all dumbfounded by what happened. They all said they thought SW and C.W. were a loving couple, who worked well together as a team, couldn’t keep their hands off one another, that Shanann loved him dearly. Don’t you think one of them would have mentioned abuse if they thought there was any evidence of any? They all spent a lot of time in each other’s company, and they all saw that Santa video long before we did.

Here is my question. He is not mandated to give an interview, is he? Imagining myself in a situation like this, would I even spend the time on the interview? Or would I say, "go away, guys, I have my stuff to do, I have to communicate with the police, I have no time for you?"

Because unless it is an appeal to the kidnappers, no way would I agree to spend the time on the national TV while in fact my family might need me at this moment.
I wonder if this could tie into thoughts here that he was a go-with-the-flow guy and did what he was told. And also mention his tech school roommate said some things I interpreted as similar. Sorry, I do not have those words the room mate said.

He strikes me as hollow. A straw man going through the motions of being a loving dad and husband, the act of being a normal HUMAN.

I agree --
Having no noticeable emotions, the inability to learn from past mistakes (lack of insight) or to understand action/reaction or to mentally/emotionally mature beyond usually 12 -- 14 years old, etc., are indeed traits of a sociopath. He also, IMO, didn't stop to think, "If I kill my family, I might get caught" -- he thought LE would not figure it out because he knew he was smarter they they. There's the Narcissism.
We have come to know so many of them in these WS cases. There are many in our world, and most of them get along well enough -- they have not been presented with many of the challenges that those we meet here have been. JMHO

Not sure who you are referencing, but almost sure not involved in this case.

I bet his wife bought it for him when she was on her trip to NC. That's where the Tarheels are from.

And it is weird, and very strange, that he would wear that shirt, if he told the truth about her killing the children.

If my husband strangled our babies, there is no way I would get up the next day, and put on anything he had given me as a gift, including my wedding ring..

Great point! He had an excuse perhaps of why he was not wearing the wedding ring, or he was not wearing the lupus bracelet but he was wearing the shirt and smiled and liked it! Great point!

Johnny, Juan was the prosecutor in the Jodi Arias trials.

He was very thorough.

  • #357
If his wife had really just murdered his children the night before, then why was he wearing something she bought him and looking kind of happy about it? If my husband had done such a thing, the last thing I'd want ON me would be a reminder of him.

@katydid23 -Sorry! You and I were having similar thoughts around the same time.

Oops, Chris, you messed up again...
Excellent post! I hadn't thought about that. SMH. He was so proud of it. Assuming she bought if for him in NC, which has got to be the source. Another mistake, Chris. His glaring lack of insight strikes again.
