Maybe. I don't think prisoners care as much as we think they do. My son's killer got beat up with some regularity, from what i understand, but also secured some kind of protection... Not certain of the umnm consent involved, but he survived his sentence and is out in the free world. I'm not certain if his beatings related to his crime or just his ever so stellar personality.

I believe this is on topic, and I state this brief personal anecdote because it relates to the topic of CW's possible experience in jail and likely later prison.

ETA thank goodness my case wasn't high profile which is different than this one

I’m sorry for your loss, and having to know the person responsible is now free. IMO life should mean life.

Exactly. And most things said about him are the same sort of things I'd say about my neighbor who I wave to each morning, but I don't actually know much about. "He was quiet, he *seemed* like a good dad, they *seemed* to have the perfect marriage, he didn't socialize much, didn't have many girlfriends, etc." You're not seeing people coming out of the woodwork saying they hung out with him. It doesn't really seem like he had any friends outside of people he met through Shanann.
Well, we know he had one "friend" but he/she is a secret.

A two day investigation revealed Chris was actively involved in an affair with a co-worker which he denied in previous interviews (3 LINE BLACKOUT)

A "special" friend, of course. ;) But, not the type I was referencing. I mean, he didn't have buddies that he went and watched football games with? Were all of his friends husbands of Shanann's friends? Just doesn't seem like anyone knew much about him.

There are many, many people with the same personality traits that are not family annihilators.
jmo

True. What are the odds though that:

1. He has those traits.
2. His family ends up annihilated.
3. He works hard to conceal what happened including disposing of the bodies.
4. He never calls 911 for help.
5. He shows no grief or despair the day or the next day.
6. He coldly lies, smiles and giggles in media interviews about his missing family.
7. He was having an affair.

And he's NOT a family annihilator.

Why did CW need to speak with his dad before confessing? Or would only confess, if he could speak to this dad?

This is what I keep pondering.

This is pure speculation on my part about father/son relationships and not sleuthing CW's dad as I know nothing about him - disclaimer.

If no one knew CW very well, if he kept his inner feelings mostly to himself and was pretty agreeable and quiet on the surface, maybe he was closest to his dad. A lot of adult sons look up to their dads, want to be like them and/or please them, can't bear to let them down. Confide in them about man stuff.

His dad flew out there to support him so clearly they had been in contact since SW and the girls went missing. He had to have told him something. I think he played completely innocent with his dad until the last minute. I still think he was hoping to get away with it and have all of this (including his wife & girls) just go away.

I think once LE cornered CW and he had to confess to some involvement, he wanted to break his "truth" of having to defend his children, not having a choice, whatever his least damning and self-damaging version was to his dad instead of having LE's version and 1st degree murder charges hit him cold after CW was arrested and not able to talk to him.

I don't have any idea what his family believes now and wouldn't speculate on that, but I don't think his dad had any idea what was going on any more than anyone else before that conversation CW requested at the police dept.

ALL JMO.

EDITED TO ADD: I really feel for CW's dad. I can't fathom what it must have felt like at that moment to find out that you've lost your granddaughters, your pregnant daughter-in-law at your son's hand, and in a lot of ways your son because things will never be the same again. What a massive ton of bricks. Just tragic. Horrific.

FHA Mortgage Loan Payment Calculator | What's My Payment?
Interesting tidbit if we plug in a rough estimate of a 15 year mortgage with 3.5 interest(the best) with the lowest down payment (assuming bc bankruptcy so not lots of time to save) we calculate property taxes at $4000 ( I guessed low if you know exact amount you can refigure, I did not include homeowners insurance cost) $3409 a month . Then his income after taxes $65000 taxes married would be about $51000 (basing federal 15% fica 7.65 %state 4.63%) $4250 would be (assuming no other cost deductions ) monthly income
He would be left with a little over $800 from his income. Now we have Lexus insurance, homeowners , family clothing , private schools, eating healthy groceries cost more, medicines and co pays, gas, phones , utilities, WiFi, travel expense for both of them and her trips individually... assuming Lexus lease amount 100 percent covered. There is a likelihood in my opinion things could be financially strained. Her expenses although tax deductible would be a write off towards her tax owed, therefore costs would be upfront .

I’m not sure their is any group that will accept what he did, especially in regards to his children.

He’s destined to spend the rest of his life in administrative segregation, unless he ends up on death row, which is essentially the same thing.
Child predators/killers are the only group I can think of.

This list doesn’t prove he’s a family annihilator. Without knowing more I can’t say for sure.

It's far more likely, with a low down payment, and doing an FHA loan, that the length of the mortgage was 30 years instead of 15. Of all the people I know with mortgages, only one have done a 15 year (and that was my parents because they built their log home in their 50s).

Under the circumstances I don’t find it unusual that people, friends and family aren’t coming out publicly to defend or to speak about CW.
jmo
I agree with you. But I think that speaks to how strong a case the prosecution already has. It would be exceedingly difficult for someone who is not a seasoned attorney and/or public relations person to put themselves out there to the public and open themselves up to questions about why CW lied to police and the public, didn't call 911 to save his toddlers, why he dumped the bodies in crude oil, why he didn't appear to show grief/devastation if his confession is to be believed. It is a very difficult argument to make, IMO, and why I suspect friends who have talked about how he was a seemingly normal guy have not said they believe his confession and why I suspect family might not come forward under such scrutiny. IMO.

Perhaps he needed to give his dad instruction about something?
I think he received an advise from a family attorney before going to the police station and his dad assured him he will do everything to bail him out. So he 'confessed'.
Later when the judge denied bail, he was visibly disappointed.

If his job was the one providing the family insurance wouldn't he need to keep her coverage at least until the birth of Nico?

Well it is doubtful that they'd have a finalized divorce prior to then but he would be equally liable for any costs associated with Nico's birth.

I believe prenatal care is considered health care for the child so his plan could still cover her even if by some miracle they managed to divorce within five months.

No, it doesn’t prove it. It just indicates that it is far more probable than not.

In fact, didn't her teacher from high school point out that although she was shy and insecure in high school (which is common to me) he was so impressed by how much self confidence she had developed as an adult?

Yep.

What was Shanann Watts like in high school? We speak exclusively with her 9th grade teacher & life-long friend as he gives us insights on how she evolved into an outgoing loving mom. He also shares with us a letter he received from Shanann.

We haven't had anyone speak negatively of CW... of course, we haven't had anyone say anything of substance either.
Right, all we have heard are the same things others have said about family annihilators , "He was quiet. He wouldn't hurt a fly. He seemed like a nice guy. He didn't talk to many people, he was isolated, etc"

I am not sure why they would be so behind on the mortgage. He made enough to pay the monthly mortgage with his job.
$3000 a month is a huge chunk of his income ($61k gross).

From this quote below, you think it means he is speaking to visitors, who think he is a monster?

"He feels like no one understands him, and nobody knows what happened," an insider told PEOPLE of Watts' current emotional state. "He thinks if they did understand, they'd realize he's not the monster everyone says he is."

What I get from the above, is that he is talking about the general public.

If a 'private citizen' visited him, they'd likely be a good friend or family member. If so, then if he felt they dandy know what happened, and didn't understand him, he could explain and clarify.

I do not believe that anyone who made the effort to visit him in jail, believes he is a monster. JMO MOO

I agree with you @katydid23. Any visitors would most likely be a close friend or family member, and not just the general public. I am not positive @Bluff that just anyone from the general public would have the ability to visit?

If I am reading the information from Weld County Detention Center correctly, it appears all visitors must be approved. Not sure if this means by the detention center, or the person in custody. Perhaps someone local would have a better understanding?

I think that is likely based on legal advice, not a lack of conviction on their part. MOO

Friends? Why would they be talking with an attorney about not saying they knew CW and he was a good guy?
