Ditching car easy.
Leave it at a public place, but avoiding camera areas.
Run to any bus, train, train service, (via back streets) and that could be used to get him close to home.
Would he not risk being seen/ witnessed by people like the bus driver though ? I wonder if he had a bicycle.

I am surprised that he even wanted to hide it. It seems like it helps his version of the story more, to admit he had a girlfriend, and that's why his wife left abruptly and took the kids.

And if he was going to try and sell the 'she killed them' story, his having an affair is necessary to that story too.

So I am not sure why he tried so hard to cover that up. Especially since it would be so easy for them to uncover.

I thought the same thing- which made me start to wonder if AP was involved. If he loves her and had stopped loving SW, then he might want to protect AP by denying she's in his life, steer the police away from her.

I was thinking about that scenario awhile back. It would've taken some of the heat and focus off him, initially anyway. The only thing is, once he ditched SW's car how would he get back home? Hitchhike? Walk? Uber? Those options all risk being seen and/or remembered. Or he had help. Which I can't quite wrap my brain around. So I guess I'm kind of stumped on that scenario.

He ran 5 miles daily. I think CW could have put on his running clothes, parked the car about 5 miles away and jogged back home (entering the house from the rear door to avoid his neighbor's cameras if he was smart). In the Crystal McDowell case her husband did something similar to this-- he ditched her car at a seedy motel and then biked back home: "48 Hours" goes inside the search for mom who vanished ahead of Hurricane Harvey - CBS News
And he was caught on surveillance video doing it. But I guess it's a moot point now as CW never got the chance to hide the car (thank goodness for NAU).

Could you provide a link please everything I have found says unconfirmed

It might be in this one - I didn't take time to read the entire thing.
CNN.com - Transcripts
People magazine has a source inside the investigation saying there were many lovers, male and female.

These guys tend to be self centered and arrogant. They lack self awareness, in that they cannot see themselves as other people see them.

This has hurt him already, and will likely prove devastating in the courtroom.

Let the devastation begin!

I have been thinking this same thing for a while. Why didn't the school call? Or did they? If the girls were not going to school that day, where were they supposed to be during SW's ultrasound appointment and lunch with NUA? Is it possible that Bella was going to start a half-day kindergarten program in the afternoon instead of the morning? (In which case, by the time the school would have noticed she wasn't there and called, the alarm had already been raised by NUA and police were at the house. It's curious that we have not heard from their teachers or school admins who would have made such a call/noticed their absence. MOO.
I understood that Bella was to start kindergarten the following Monday, not Aug. 13.

I sure could be mistaken, though.

I think it was pure ego that made him think he could hide it. He wanted the police to see him as some poor victim whose wife left him for no good reason. If his wife had a legit reason to leave him (i.e: he's a lying cheater who lies) then he looks less sympathetic in the eyes of others. I would not be surprised if he tried to say SHE was the one having the affair. Everything had to be her fault in his story so that he could paint himself as a hero/innocent bystander. Not to mention that admitting to having an affair would mean admitting he was capable of lying and deception toward the person he was supposed to be closest to in his life (his wife). He could not let the police see him as a liar. MOO.

Bicycle is a great idea.
Also he could disguise his appearance.
I guess, thinking of our scenarios, is possibly beyond CW's thoughts, as he appears not to be too smart.

I hope to read the papers filed by the media because their argument seems dead on: the motion to seal is supposed to be filed by the custodian - the coroner, not the prosecution. I noted that as being strange back when the motion was first filed. Because it was done in the context of a pending criminal proceeding, the judge treated it the same as any other motion made by a party - requiring a response from the other side.

But CORA, the open records statute, really has nothing to do with pending proceedings - criminal or otherwise. The statute simply governs access to public documents. The custodian (in this case the coroner) needs to file the motion if they want to hold the document back from being disclosed to the public - and the court will then hold a hearing. You can see reference to the proper “usual” procedure in the court’s second order on this topic - no longer requesting a response from the defense, just scheduling a hearing on the matter.

Under CORA, there is only ONE permissible reason to withhold an otherwise public document - the custodian has to demonstrate serious injury to the public (not to private individuals - to the public). It’s a fairly high burden. The only ones that I’ve seen be successful have been things like columbine - enormous widespread tragedies that really couldn’t have been anticipated. Murders, as horrible as they are, just don’t seem to fit the “public injury” situation.

Autopsy reports are NOT considered “law enforcement” documents - which are treated differently under CORA. It is interesting to see the prosecutor (not the proper party, IMO) try to assert the exception (public injury) for law-enforcement related purposes during the pendency of a criminal proceeding. That rationale (witnesses) seems odd too: a suspect has already been arrested and charged, i’m Not sure that the autopsy report will impact anything - or that the argument can be made under CORA.

It’s interesting stuff, for sure :)

If you have time, can you explain how the public is injured? Does it mean mass hysteria or heart attacks are feared? Thank you.

What is the age limit for kindergarten there ? I thought she was four? Do you know this was a public school she was going to?

That’s what I tried to impart. She was supposedly going to private school (according to a friend she has here on Web Sleuths) because she didn’t meet the age requirements for public school, but the ones in the area all start that week too. Some had “meet” sessions that were a day or two before the first official day. Therefore/first official day very well may not have been Monday, but could have taken place on another day that week.

This could be achieved in the day, when time permits, by leaving via the back.
If late at night, not sure, if the area CW lives in has public transport: if operates at nights.
He could wait around until early morning, if no transport at night ie. choose his times, where appropriate.
MOO.
Where I live, public transport is provided for night workers, and early birds.

CW was a runner, so he could have driven SW's car within, say, a 5-mile radius and then hoofed it back home.

This is straight from the playbook of a case in Kansas. The Rev Tom Bird murdered his wife, ditched her body in a river along with her car, and jogged back home.

ETA: @Gardener1850, Great Minds Think Alike, I see!

But are you thinking that because he said, "...next Monday," or for some other reason?

IIRC, CW used a word like register or registering for kindergarten in one the front porch interviews. I ran out of data to view videos til Sunday to confirm. Anyone else recall those words?

Maybe register Monday the 13th and start school on a later day?

ETA, could this play into it was premeditated and he planned on doing it earlier, tripped up on his leaking truth again and mixed up it already was Monday?
